July 28, 2007 - "Rome-ancing the Mouse Cruisers" -11 days! Part 2

DH just ordered his tux from Cruiseline formal. One more thing checked off the list.

NOTE TO SELF: I stopped on page 225!

Today was productive. We finally got airfare nailed down (I know, those of you that booked months ago are gasping right now). I usually don't wait, but DW thought prices would go down. Ha!

Anyway, we're flying Air France from home to Cincinatti to CDG to BCN arriving 2:50pm 27JUL. If we're not too wiped out we'll try to meet everyone at the fountain that evening. We decided to stay at the Hilton Diagonal Mar and booked on our own through HiltonHonors (thus, not eligible for DCL transfer from airport to hotel). So, any suggestions for transport from airport to hotel?

Hi Dan - your not the only one to feel that way - I only booked airfare in late March and at that I was panicing.

I like the chocolate during down time theory. I definitely eat chocolate when I'm feeling down. That cheers me up and puts me in the mood to eat more chocolate.

Spoken/Typed like a true Choc-O-Holic :thumbsup2

You know Andrew said it would take 5 days to reach 3000 posts and it took us like 2 days instead. So post # 3500 should come quickly.

It happens like a wildfire - you throw down the challenge and away it flies! course has anyone noticed how well he is at fanning the flames?

I thought they were losing money on the Panama Canal cruise too. Seemed like everyday was something special: the CC gifts, usually a little gift each night at dinner, the special entertainment, the lithos and the limited Ariel print. I was going nuts. I wish they had the Ariel print in tube, it was tough scrambling for a tube to get it home. It is so beautiful.

Jeanne, on one of our other threads - they always remind us to bring a mailing tube home for this purpose. Even if they don't give something out - which I'm rather interested in finding out from the 1st 10-day cruise - but if you decide to buy one - you can roll it up and bring with you.

I however made the mistake of letting DH talk me into getting a tall one - I found that the smaller ones work best. Less to get crushed. Then I compounded that fact with after we got off the 11-Night in Sept - we mailed a BIG box home. DH said - "just send it home - it should be ok!" :furious: Yeah right - DHL/Fed EX crushed one end. Crushed my poor Lilo and or Stitch litho. Oh well, good thing I wasn't planning on selling it or something. Anyway, a smaller version works well for rolling up and carrying with you. The larger the more awkward.

I haven't had time to catch up on all the posts-

Ummm.....Salliep  - just skip the posts - nothing in there very important anyway!!! ;) :rotfl2:

'Sides - don't want to OVEREXPOSE your eyes to something frivolous! You know we

I came home early because my husband will be taking Chloe( our cat) to the vet to be put down tonight. Im having a tough time with this one- cant eat or sleep- and sob uncontrollably every-time I look into her eyes.
I wonder why cats and dogs weren't made to live longer ? I am putting this on my list of questions for when I meet the "Big One" in heaven..
[/COLOR]

Sallie - my condolences to you and Chloe and a big fat :grouphug: and :pixiedust: to you. Please know we are here for you if you need it. I too have the hardest time with animals. Humans, I can handle but the poor defenesless animals... I'm a total mess. (My brother -who's away just lost his dog while I was in FL, I get a call in the middle of the night telling me to chastise G-mom for not taking care of the dog. He was 1 year to the day. His sister has had a rough time of it but at least she's eating now.

Anyway, please write feel free to write on here (if I may so forward as to speak for everyone here) - it helps and MY experience with my DIS family is that they are here for you and will :listen: to anything you have to say. In the meantime, feel blessed that you had a long time and many happy memories with your Chloe (my Chloe happens to be a white dog whose pet name is Ghost Dog)

OK - off my soapbox now. On with the reading.

Thank you - I just resigned myself to not winning anything -but must admit - I didn't expect that one. ;)

Sneaky is good.....sorry Kyla

Somehow I can't avoid the image of chocolate passports. I can see it now...

"Can I see your passport, sir?"
"Of course, officer", as he hands it over.
"Hmmm.... let me examine this closely..."
(sounds of munching)
"Can I see your passport, sir?"
"I just gave it to you!"
"No you didn't"
"There's chocolate around your mouth!"
"That's an embarassing medical condition" (he wipes quickly)
"I gave you my passport" (continued yelling as you're dragged off to the deportation center)

Dan - can't wait to meet you - your hilarious. But sounds like something I would think of but would never voice - although...lately things have been flying out of my mouth or should we say.....fingers???

OK all - be good - I too have to pick up DD-14 from school - I am already late picking her up but had to wait until load was done so that I could move it to the dryer.

Thanks. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you also. Actually it was someone - I think Andrew's? comment earlier sort of apologizing about how people were being... balmy? blimey? something British for silly I think, that convinced me to stick around.

I should warn you though..... in addition to an occasionally irreverent way of looking at the world... I, I (oh the shame)... I sometimes pun....

There, I've said it.

I hope you'll let me stay :worship:

Hi Everyone- - thanks for missing me! I was so excited to meet Anna and Wendy yesterday-!! I felt as if Ive known them for years-!! Both my husband and myself feel like we know Wendy, but we cant place our finger on it. I hope to have everyone here for a Pre Cruise BBQ !!
I haven't had time to catch up on all the posts- wow, now I know what it feels like when you miss a day !

I wonder why cats and dogs weren't made to live longer ? I am putting this on my list of questions for when I meet the "Big One" in heaven.. also on that list is the purpose of HOT FLASHEs!!!!!! :upsidedow - I still must reply to some posts about my flashes when I regain my composure!
Anyway- say a little prayer for us tonight- we need it!
I really miss you guys-!!:flower3:
Sallie

Sallie,

We have been wondering where you were all day -

I am so sorry to hear about your precious cat. I know the feeling. We all still get teary eyed when we think of our Maltese Snowball.

:grouphug: :grouphug:

It will be so hard - just know we are all thinking of you guys.

Hows your daughter doing today? Your story got to my heart. Kids are so resilent today - I would have been so mortified and made like an ostrich and not come out for months. I love girls with spunk. Wish mine had the spunk to put off incidents like this. Hope she's doing better today. ell her congrats BTW - quick-thinking, smart and spunky - sounds like she has all the things going for her! :thumbsup2

Thanks for asking about Gretchen.....she seemed just fine when she got home from school. (our county only has a half day on Monday...yes EVERY Monday!!) so she hung around the house and then she has 3 hours of dance tonight. About 45 minutes before dance, she burst into tears.....she did not want to go....to tired. So I said fine, let's go out to dinner.....and Gretchen, her big brother....two teenage friends of big brothers and I went to Mo's....anyone else have Mo's? $5 Burrito and and drink night....pretty good really, but way off my diet!!

She said she will be ready to go back on Wednesday.......

OH My. :scared1: I assume this has only happened at the hotels. I heard DCL has you put your luggage outside your door the night before you depart. Is there any risk in doing this? I assume that if there was, they would modify their procedures.

They will not take a laptop either to your stateroom or from your stateroom, you will have a carry it. We have been on many Disney cruises and never had any problem with the night pick up of luggage....really kind of nice.

Congrats on the graduation and sorry about the "dance scare!" - DL5 My girls used to do that too!!:dance3:

Thanks for thinking of Gretchen. When you guys meet her, you will see she really is a ham!! I can not imagine 1,000 looking at me and I was supposed to dance. Every other time she has competed, it has been dark.....this room was brightly lit, so she could see everything!!

Sallie

Sallie, I am so sorry about Chloe. I was talking to Gretchen about it and she started to cry. How is Carley taking it......It is so funny how they become such a part of our lives. I have to figure out what to do with our dog and three cats for this trip......

But I'll leave you with a question - that will help those who want to rack up more posts! (see Joann I'm even helping;) )

What is your favourite food, meal on DCL? Or for those who are first times - what are you looking forward to the most?

My answer , I love the palo choc souffle and chocolate covered strawberries. Also at the Palo brunch I really liked the bacon wrapped scallops and finally I really enjoyed the mickey waffles for breakfast ( Yes I know Im a big Kid);)

A picture says a 1,000 words!!

jlawall,
Best of luck to you.
Wouldn't be trying to pass Andrew would you. Never happen.
Then, he is going on holiday soon...........

I'll get him during his vaycay (vacation or as they say, "holiday")

Actually it was about an hour ago, but it's taken me that long to catch up.
Right now I'm going to own up to being a little slow... I now understand this multiquote thing you do it as you go along, I get it now.

Yes, but how are they copying the post counts?? :confused3

I always like the menu in Lumiere's on the first night there, the salad with the goat cheese croutons............I love the creme brulee dessert.....

Thx Helen, I'm glad you stayed up!:thumbsup2

Joann sorry to hear about the op... you need some of my DNA I come round from the anaesthetic wide awake, bushy tailed and ready to go, it's like a massive caffeine hit on my body, the medical staff can't believe it...then about a week later I get the withdrawal post op blues, I cry non stop for two days!!!!
Thx! I'm not sure which is worse!:rotfl: If you remember from the West Coast trip, I didn't zip line b/c I was recovering from my last bout with this....wish me luck (I'm not doing it until after the cruise this time!!)

Sorry Sallie..........our thoughts are with you..........paw: :sad1: :flower3:

I just saw Rod Stewart last weekend!

:faint:

My favorite!!!

:faint:

I was at a concert standing behind a girl in a wheelchair when he came over to touch her hand. I was so excited at being near him that I only got a chance to snap one shot before I was mobbed by all the screaming girls.

 Must admit I too was ALMOST screaming - I tend to keep happy emotions inside but must admit - that one got my heart pounding.

Can't help it - I have a things for blondes! And older men (although DH and I are the same age) think Efrain Zimbelist Jr., Pierce Brosnan, Liam Neeson. ROD STEWART! :faint: oh and of course my latest Jon Bon Jovi - does that man ever age????

Did I just age myself? Really all - I'm only 40 (and 3/4) but have a loooonnnnggg memory! Hear all - I remember! Just ask DH - when we argue - I 'play back word for word what he said to me'. So far -I'm winning! ;)

Actually, he was pretty good, he sounded good....the only problem was the age of the audience.......................:lmao:

Goodness me!! You guys finally quieted down!!

I have to admit I am getting excited!! Now that I have airfare I need to try and re-arrange my hotels. Right now, I have 2 nights post cruise though Disney and I need to get two nights pre cruise now.

I'll bet Disney is sold out and I will need to book on my own...then I will need to change the transfers......

Oh well, off to do this before bed....wish me luck!!

Hi Lisa - now that you got your airfare - my problems are starting heard from the hotel in Paris and they never received my confirmation e-mail and they are booked. So now the first 1/2 of my trip in Paris is gone.

I was getting excited - now I'm all dejected - all those long hours of finding the right hotel and I have got to do it all over again. I now understand totally what you went through. On the air ticket front - tried to light a fire under DH - TA still hasn't given us a confirmation # or copy of our flights and now I'm starting to get nervous. Their booke d- I got the payment to prove it but a hand written letter telling us we're on BA is not enough for me. If I don't hear from her tomorrow this is will be me - :furious:

Anyway, I promise I'll try and settle down for a while - just been antsy as its May Gray weather around here and its supposed to be in the low 70's and cloudy this week until early next week. I feel another mini-roller-coaster emotional ride coming on and those are not fun. Just ask the kids. I feel much better with the sun out.

Ok - buzzer sounded on the :laundy: - still doing it wish I knew the secret to getting it done - maybe staying off the DIS might help?

What ever you do, get those flights confirmed in writing......most important part?? Don't you think??

That must be a very long flight.....do you ever change planes? Do you stop in NY?

Out Air France flies though CDG and we thought about spending a few nights in Paris, but decided on Barcelona instead. I am glad, I want to be near the ship!!

okay, I just got off the phone with Disney and pre-cruise they are showing availability at Hilton and AC Barcelona....

Anyone staying here pre-cruise??

Yes, but how are they copying the post counts?? :confused3
On the Cruise Meet page, when you click on the replies it gives you a pop-up of the thread count. Just use your mouse to highlight it, then use ctrl-C to copy it to the clipboard.

You can select all of the text in the window, or just some of it.

Oh My - I really hope you get this all sorted out. You might try calling BA. I did when I upgraded our flights. The gal I talked to was so nice and started looking things up by my name when I lost my res number. By the time she found it in her system, I had found it in my emails and so I could confirm she had the right one. that tells me that if you give her your info, especially since you know the date and flight numbers, she could help you. (I say she assuming you will get the same gal  )

man - I was gone and totally expected to come back to 3600 posts. is it Laura and I only?
