July 2015 Car Rental Code Watch...hoping there is not already one!

I'm in a similar boat. Looking for a full size SUV or a minivan from TPA or MCO for 7/17-7/26 for under $500 total. We will drive if I can't find anything reasonable. I'd much rather fly though!

Picked up the car yesterday. They gave me paperwork that said $262.00. Um, no! Fortunately I had a print out and email of my reservation that showed $74.17. The attendant was pretty impressed with my rate. Ended up with a Chrysler 200, very luxurious.

Sixt has a full size SUV for $449 in TPA.

Anyone know what (if any) SUV's I might find on Emerald Aisle? During a heavy demand week would this be less likely and I'd be stuck with a midsize?

ETA: National's rate is about $35 cheaper than what I have with Alamo now BUT given the horrible selection of standard SUV's we've seen when picking up from the minivan aisle (RAV4, Equinox, Cherokee's are intermediate not standard SUV IMO).

I've made 2 reservations before and canceled the other one if they had what I wanted on the EA. If they don't then cancel the Natl res and walk over to Alamo right next door. You can cancel right on the app. Just make sure you will have time to cancel. Don't book for 1pm if your flight lands at 1.

Keep in mind, Sixt has high deposit holds.

If it's just the Emerald Aisle and a heavy demand week, your chances are near 0 for any SUV there. The two reservation technique mentioned by Sharona is a good idea; if you don't see anything suitable on the aisle, simply cancel and walk over to Alamo.

You can also check both sides of MCO.

Are minivans abundant on emerald aisle in July? We need a minivan or SUV for 6 people. What's our chances of finding a van/suv for 6 on emerald aisle end of July?

Given expensive rates for full size SUVs and minivans, I would say that your chances are near to zero.

What are your dates?

Arrive Tues July 28
I ran 07/28 to 08/04 on carrentalsavers and National did not even come up with any availability for vans. A couple of the off site places had vans for under $500 a week.

National prices have been so high lately that I have had to use Dollar and Alamo on recent trips.

Are you arriving before 4:00 pm? You can take a taxi to one of the off airport Budget locations and return to MCO. It's a trick I recommend over Christmas.

Pick up at 3111 E Colonial Dr, Orlando, FL- 10 miles from MCO
Drop off at MCO.

Ford Explorer SUV seats 7
BCD code D420002
Coupon code MUGZ022

$314.68 all in. But ... You need to pick up before 6:00 pm.

I'm wondering if I pick up a car on 14th off-airport vs. on 13th at MCO I might see better pricing. I'm not opposed to taking DME to AKL I just figured if we're getting a car it'd be quicker getting to AKL if we pick it up at MCO.

Flight arrives a bit after 4 so could be closed, will look into this tip... Thanks for the tip!!!!

I have a Emerald Aisle ressie for ~300 for 8 days and a ressie @ Alamo for a van for $450. If I can find a vehicle that fits us on the aisle we'll take it otherwise, will go with Alamo or alternative to be booked like the tip above (something that is cancellable).

What price do you have so far? How many people do you need to seat? Is a 5-seat SUV OK with you? Sixt Lake Buena Vista has a compact for $532 all in for 2 weeks.

Could you split up and have one person go for the car right when you land while the other gets bags/etc? The location is open until 6:00.

We have something to work with, but not sure the chances of having something on the Aisle.

I have EA reserved from 7/13-7/28 for $738. If nothing is there that will work for us (it's the amount of luggage plus a double stroller that is the issue) then we'll hop over to Alamo and take a look. Res there is for a midsize SUV for $560 but I'm really worried about everything fitting in a midsize SUV as we've never had anything smaller than a Tahoe when renting there. :/

Alamo prices finally went down a bit for my dates (3 days before). You may want to check again if you were looking at Alamo.
