Hi everyone:

We have been looking forward to this trip for so long, but I just found out last week my mother has terminal ovarian cancer(its inoperable and spread throughout her abdomen) and I don't know if we can go. She lives in Vancouver and we live in Victoria, so its been a rough week, especially since I found out the day my husband and youngest son went away for 4 days on a wilderness camping fieldtrip so I was on my own with the news.

My mom had breast cancer 3.5 years ago, and we thought she had beat it. They're checking to see if its the breast cancer that has spread or a whole new cancer. The oncologist will be phoning me today or Monday with the news. Best case scenario is that its a new cancer. I also have to go for genetic testing as my grandma also died of gynelogical cancer plus my great-grandma also.

My mom and dad and counsellor said we should go on the cruise anyway and try to enjoy ourselves as the worst is yet to come. I am an only child and my dad is going blind and my 93 year old grandma lives with my parents. My mom takes care of everyone, so I'm going to have to take over.

My life has changed. Sigh. I'm hoping I can still go on this trip. Please send good thoughts my way. I hope I don't sound too selfish by vacationing when my mom is dying, but I also have my kids to think about.

Hope to see all of you there in a 12 days. Of course, I haven't packed anything, or thought about what to take or anything. What's the weather been like lately?

Sorry to dump. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

PS I also have a disneyland trip planned for end of August, a 4 day cruise in December, and the 8 day NYC next July that I'm worried about too.

So sorry to hear this sad news -it must be devastating for you. I think you should take the doctors advice and go on the cruise while you still can. I doubt you'll be having a laugh a minute onboard but your kids will enjoy it and as he said, there will be far tougher days to come. You need to recharge your batteries a bit so you'll be ready to face what is to come....that's not being selfish that's being realistic.
Sending you cyber hugs and positive vibes-hope you stay strong to face whats ahead and that you get some pleasure out of the vacation.

Take Care.

I hope you will be on the cruise with all your Dis friends. Your life has/will change but you still need to take care of yourself too. Pixie Dust & Prayers to you and your family.:flower3:

slg - I think you should go on the cruise as your life is about to change. Going on a vacation later may be more burdomesome. Hope to see a fellow Victoria resident on board.

This is getting more real by the minute. I am starting to get that energetic-tired feeling. Way cool!!!!

Time to review those personal navigators. Still debating on getting to the ship early or wait for the crowd to subside. What do you think?

Get there early. You can start getting to know people in the crowds and why wait around and be anxious? Just go!

With the kids I like to get there early. We go find a table where we can enjoy lunch outside. Since there are 6 of us, getting there early is best. We usually don't have problems finding a table. We enjoy our lunch and take our carry ons to the stateroom when they are ready. If the luggage is there I will unpack while the boys go roam around the ship. If it's not there I roam with them a take photos.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom, but I agree go while you can. Who knows when you'll be able to again.
Hopefully I'll get to see you again.

Hi Cruisers,

Don't forget there is a Fish Extender Exchange sign up going on over at Facebook... look for Alaskan Disney Cruise.. with our date ..I think it's the Wonder's Wildest Cruise in the West...

I can't wait.. I am a teacher, and school will be ending soon.. Then I can really start my compulsive planning!

Susan :cool1:

Hi Susan: I don't "facebook" so do you think you may be able to pass along to me the FE cabin list which I am sure has been finalized by this time? I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Maureen -- we're in Northern NJ. Please also pack a tuna sandwich and rootbeer float from Weber's! ; )

hi from nj - just checking in on the east coast cruisers - we're taking cathay air saturday from jfk to vancouver - anyone else coming in this early - also we're staying right outside the airport - just looking to see if we're going to have company on our flight or in vancouver -

We are taking that same flight but on Friday night. Staying at the Pan Pacific until Tuesday.

What flight home did you book? We leave on the 19th and booked a day room at the Sandman Signature by the airport. We can relax all day before the late flight home.

Have a great trip everyone. Still so sad we had to cancel.
Here is the FE list from the facebook page.

Linda maybe OCD but I'm lazy so I made up a FE list per deck. ;) I'm giving out gifts that are for the whole cabin but I know my sister is giving out kids gifts so thank you Linda for the Kids/Adult list. I have a total of 16 cabins. Anyone to add on or change?

We are taking that same flight but on Friday night. Staying at the Pan Pacific until Tuesday.

What flight home did you book? We leave on the 19th and booked a day room at the Sandman Signature by the airport. We can relax all day before the late flight home.

we're also coming back on the 19th - didn't think of getting a day room - but as we're coming in early and staying near the airport we're going to check it out then -

After an almost 24 hr trip door to door, we're in Vancouver. :cool1::cool1::cool1:

Will spend the day chilling and recovering from the 2 flights yesterday and the 8 hr time difference and then head out later to see a bit of the city.

Wonder here we come!

All the bags are packed, just have to tuck in my fur-babies in our kennel and off to sleepy time to dream of Alaska & temps under 100 degrees!!! One day in Vancouver then on the Wonder! We've been on the Magic 4 times but this is our first time on the Wonder! :sail:

Sweet dreams to all!!
