July 11 - 18 "Magic" Cruise to the Western Caribbean

Do any of you all plan to get any foreign currency for the trip? I know that anything we really purchase we'd be able to use our Visa card to buy but what if you just need a few dollars to buy something?? I'm not sure what to do!

Chris, DH Bill, DD Erin (11) and DS Colin (9)....first cruise ever!!

Most vendors in cruise ports accept both US cash and credit cards so chances are good that you won’t have any problems. :thumbsup2

That being said, if you want to carry the local bills, the easiest way would probable be to use your debit card to withdraw cash from an ATM in that port. They will generally do the exchange calculation automatically based on the rate posted that morning (plus what ever transaction fee they charge and the one your bank charges for using someone else’s ATM (yikes!!:scared1:). I suspect that either Guest Services of the Pursers Desk on the ship could also do it for you but I’m not certain of that.

Our experience (both in the Bahamas and Canada for the matter) has been, that the locals will take US bills, but may also give change in the local script. Which suites me because I‘m a collector of coins and bills and like to keep a little bit from every place I get to travel to. :goodvibes

Is there a complete (final) FE list ready for posting?

Here ye!! Here ye!!

The final call for participation in the July 11th 2009, Disney Magic Western Caribbean DIS Fish Extender Exchange was yesterday and we now have an official membership list. :jumping1:

The facts are theses: 52 people across 16 cabins have joined in the F/E. There are 19 kids (10 DDs & 9 DSs) ranging in age from 5 to 15 (17 and older and we considered you an adult). All the data you should need is in the final list below, but we will answer all questions and we also have an Excel spreadsheet of the members available to anyone who wants to PM us an e-mail address. We’re also working on a ships map identifying the location of all cabins participating in the F/E, which we can e-mail as well (but we will also have copies of the map at the DIS-Meet on the 11th). :thumbsup2

And so…
Without farther ado…
“The kitchen proudly presents to you…”
“Your dinner…” no, no, no, I mean…

All, I'll apologize first...just in case I screw this up...Patty's computer died late last week and I'm still deployed so my time to learn all the "things" about posting and our upcoming cruise is severly limited. :confused3 Anyway, after posting a picture of the girls I see folks asked about the "adult pics" too. I don't have a lot of pics on my computer here, but thought I'd post one of the four of us from last fall...so, here's Patty (DFi), Evee (DD6), Kat (DD5) and I. Can't wait to get out of the sandbox and back to the states for R&R and seeing Patty and the girls!!! :woohoo: We're all looking forward to meeting everyone...just praying the I get out of the AOR on-time!!!

Ok, I've found a photo of my DH (Chris) and me (Kim) from the maid of the mist in Niagra, that is to explain the lovely blue ponchos. (Our kids' photo is a couple of pages back.)

Oh, we almost had a big setback here. Sara broke her arm last weekend playing lacrosse. Luckily, the doctor will let her get a water cast before the cruise. :woohoo: So we will still be able to swim with the stingrays in Grand Cayman and the dolphins in Coz!:thumbsup2

Thanks GoofyIsAsGoofyDoes for keeping track of the FE list! I'm off to order supplies now!

Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's!

My daugher broke her arm just before our second Dsiney Cruise. Our doctor let her do the same thing. She choose a purple cast - we bought a white marker and had some of the characters sign it. She was so proud of that cast - I believe she she still has it.

WHOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Thanks!!!:banana::love::cloud9::dance3::yay:

Howdy and Welcome Aboard!! :welcome:

We’re the “unofficial” keepers of the F/E and DIS-Members lists. Jus wanted to give you a little shout out and say that we’re all glad to have you along with us. I see that you’re not planning to take part in the F/E and that’s cool.;) We’ll add you to the list of other DIS Members that are part of the July 11th Western. We’re planning an initial DIS-Meet for everyone that wants to come out at the Promenade Lounge (Deck-3 Starboard between Lumiere’s and Parrot Cay) at 3:00pm, about an hour before the Lifeboat Muster on the day we sail (July 11). The lounge shouldn’t be that crowded (so we could find each other easier) and every one should be aboard by then. You also said that you are planning to decorate your cabin door. Do you want to post your cabin number so we can come around and see your work?

Looking forward to meet you on the Magic.:thumbsup2

I think we are boarding at.. around.. 2:30? maybe. yeah. Im pretty sure..

And its probably only going to be me at the meets and stuff.. yeah.

haha. unfortunately mission "Convince parents that FE exchange is okay" has failed..
so im really sorry to everyone who has ordered supplies already or anything..

but would it be possible to be taken off the FE list?

But if you get something mildly australian in your FE.. well.. youll know who its from!

Im so excited about the launch!
going away so soon.. 10 days.. ish!

Yay, finished my Fish Extender! Not bad for not having used a sewing machine in more years than I can count. Now on to finding knick knacks to put in them.:yay:

Hey Hannah,
You might get a few surprises yourself! Can't wait to meet you and your family. I have always wanted to go to Austrailia- my dream trip!

We are almost there................

18 days, 9 hours, 29 minutes and 31 seconds
(Time until Friday, July 10, 2009 at 7:00:00 PM)

:banana::banana::banana::banana:

Welcome to our newbies! We are getting very excited and are in full blown countdown mode now!!!:cool1:

Of course, as I started organizing and packing this morning, I got a little overwhelmed that we "only" have 20 more days to get packed! It's OK though - it will take me that long to make sure I don't forget something!!:scared1:

Planning to finish our FE stuff this weekend and work on the CM goodie bags too!

:rotfl::lmao::rotfl2: Kason (my DS-5) wanted to know WHY I had to have 1/2 my closet piled on my bed this morning too......he said I had "10 hundred thousand things to put in those suitcases!".....FYI - I DO NOT!!!!;)

No....that would be me.

Time is getting close...just a couple of hurtles for us to over come.. Right now I'm sitting in hospital waiting for DD to go into surgery to remove the tumor on her leg. Surgeon is sure she will be able to do the cruise...she'll just need to take it slower. :yay:

Then we can start packing.....:woohoo:

Thank goodness I can connect with my mini laptop....I'll just spend the day reading the Dis...

I hope everything went well.

I need names for mom2mizmous family, if you check in will you post here or PM me? I am making nametags for our meet.
Michelle

Thank you for your concern over Melissa. She came through the surgery ok, spent the night, and came home Saturday afternoon. Since then she has been resting (sleeping). This morning I took her back to her surgeon and he said that things are looking good..but she is still sore and really tired. Today she is spending with me so I can mother her..:hug::hug:and give her meds.

Hopefully we will start packing this weekend.. I need to find out what clothes:scared1:s fit and if I need new (larger) shorts...:rotfl:

Can't believe that the cruise is almost here...is the space shuttle still set to take off on Saturday? I've seen three launches from the Cape area. I always tell my 4th graders that the launch is one of the most amazing
experiences ever. Any chance the captain will keep the Magic docked until after the space shuttle takes off.pirate:?
