Julia Roberts twins -- Why must celebs give their kids unusual names?

Wasn't too crazy about the names when I heard them this morning. But, I sat here thinking about them, and I do like them. I like that Phinneaus can be shortened to Finn (which was on MY original name list), and Hazel is pretty, I think. Patricia is a MN we had considered for a daughter (it's DH's late mom's name). So, I think she made good choices. I wish her and Danny the best of luck in raising their babies. It's hard enough when you are NOT famous, but when you have the whole world watching every step you take....I can't imagine. It would be like a world of In-laws.

Hazel reminds me of an 80-year old woman, and Phinneus sounds pretentious to me

Shamelessly stolen from another board:

Why didn't she just name them Blue-haired Old Lady and Beat-Me-Up-And-Take-My-Lunch-Money?

I find it hard to believe that anybody would bust these kids over their names. They're Julia Roberts' children for goodness' sakes. "Ordinary" kids (if they had any contact with them) will trip over themselves trying to be friends with the kids of a star.

I think she could have named them Dog-doo1 and Dog-doo2, and they'd still be treated like royalty anywhere they went.

Don't underestimate star power!

My opinion on Patricia is this, my MIL's name is Pat and we decided to use her maiden name for my DD's middle- Blain! Hazel and Phinneus might as well be changed to "Kick me". They may be beautiful, but they are enough out of the mainstream that Kick me is equivalent!

But they will probably attend school with other celeb kids who have names that are just as weird or weirder.

Of all the celebs that have given birth...I think I like these 2 to the least ::yes:: I don't really know how you could look at a beautiful baby girl and name her Hazel :crazy2: I think Phin would be okay, though, but the real name...sheesh.

I have to say my favorite name ever, for a celebs kid, is Seven. I LOVE that name. I think it's adorable.{and not JUST because I have a crush on the father ;) } I might have to name my son Eight ::yes:: :teeth: My grandparents would about kill me though....they hate my cousin's name Jack, because it's not traditional enough  :teeth:

You all are BRUTAL!!! :earseek: I still say those are perfectly fine names. The old fashioned ones that sound weird to us are coming back in style. If I hadn't been pretty much determined to name my boy twin Malcolm (which, BTW, is Harrison Ford's son's name) I would have gone with Hugh or Owen. His middle name is George (after my father). Oldest son's middle name is Campbell which is my last name (don't worry, I'm married!). We have several Ellas and Sophies and Graces and Walters at or grade school. In a few years, those will seem like normal everyday names to most of us. Even Phinneaus and Hazel! My mom HATED my oldest son's name--Duncan--for several years until she got used to it. All of my kids tell me they love their names!!

Never cared much for Julia Roberts, and with her pick of her son's name, she didn't disappoint me.

 FYI! Being a bit on the dense side, I didn't realize that the user name I picked would be my screen name also. I was, and still am IRL, Lisa Campbell. As you can see, I'm now gymmom. I even have an avatar!! :cool1: The corgi in the picture happens to look just like one of ours!

Lisa :D

Personally, not my "cup of tea". But nothing wrong with them. They are very old names. I can't tell you how many little pre-school Georges & Charlies I know. Older names seem to be coming back.

She's early, as twins generally are. I hope they are in good health & able to breath on their own.

I like "Blue haired Old Lady and Beat me up and take my lunch money" myself, I laughed so hard I scared the dogs! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Not that unusual.

They sound like the kind of names Julia Roberts might like. Kind of old-fashioned American.

If you're 80. :earboy2:

That's what I was thinking...How can someone look down at a sweet newborn baby and say, "Oh she is so sweet. I think I'll call her 'Hazel'." Phinneas, I'm not even gonna go there.....

All I can think of is that obnxious maid on the old TV series....

I am happy for Julia, I really like her..just not her choice in names...

The world would be a pretty borning place if everyone strove to be mainstream.

OMG, I am rolling over the above. :rotfl: Particularly Pilot Inspektor and Audio Science. And we all thought Michael Jackson naming all his kids Prince Michael was bizarre. :rotfl:

Doesn't John Travolta have a son named "Jett"? always thought that was on the odd side.

I like the name Hazel and Apple... don't know about the other name tho
