Juli & Wayne ~ WP/WH 11/1/12: Our day was a fairytale... recap started!

Crap, I skipped the floral and cake tasting part of the planning session.

After returning to Franck's from our trip over to the Grand Floridian kitchen, we returned to Merriweather and met with Elizabeth from Disney Floral & Gifts, who handles all of the floral arrangements and decor elements of the wedding. I sent her the link to my wedding board on Pinterest and partially filled out the floral planning form indicating what we were want ahead of our meeting. I wasn't sure what to expect. I've seen other Disney brides' floral bills and I think it's insane what Disney charges for flowers but, if you use outside floral, you get stuck with fees. So we plunged in...

For myself, I wasn't really sure if I wanted all of the floral elements to be matchy matchy or if we were going to go with personal floral that was different from the decor floral. We decided not to do matchy-matchy.

For myself, I requested a hand-tied, red rose bouquet in the bridesmaid size. The stems will be wrapped with a black ribbon with white polka dots. The ribbon will cover the entire stem. No green sticking out the bottom.

My stepdaughter will carry a red rose wand. I think that's three roses and a big bow of black ribbon with white polka dots. She will totally love it.

Wayne and our boys will have red rose boutonnieres with the same black and white ribbon. I don't know how they're going to add ribbon to something so small, but I have faith in Disney.

The flowers for the centerpieces and altar decoration are different. No roses. Instead, I wanted spider mums. They don't sound very wedding-y but I love them. There was one in a grocery store bouquet that Wayne gave me awhile ago and it reminded me of a burst of fireworks. I took photos of it and sent it to Elizabeth with my survey. She said that they don't grow that way, that my flower was sprayed or dyed but that they could do the same.

So our altar arrangement, which will then be moved to the head table at the reception will be these spider mums, white gerbera daisies with dark centers and ting ting (that wiry, spiral-y, sparkly stuff that sticks up from flowers) in a long, low arrangement.

The centerpieces will be a small grouping of the spider mums and ting ting, nestled in greenery in a cylinder vase, tied with our black ribbon with white polka dots.

Elizabeth left and Maxine came back with the cake tasting tray. OH. MY. WORD. The cake tasting tray was amazingly fun.

Look at that! Just look at it. It was so cool. We tasted five different cakes: orange, almond, marble, chocolate and yellow. They gave us a cup of their basic buttercream, which is what will be under the fondant. It was pretty standard buttercream. We also tasted their Bavarian Cream, Amaretto Mousse, Bailey's Mousse, White Chocolate Mousse, Tropical Mousse (a combo of passionfruit, mango and pineapple), Dark Chocolate Mousse, Mocha Mousse and Raspberry Mousse.

Prince Charming and I had an absolute blast mixing and matching fillings and cakes and feeding each other. There were crumbs everywhere

The Bavarian Cream was kind of bland and boring. Maxine warned us of that! Other than that one, they were all AWESOME. We decided that with our three layer cake, the bottom (biggest) layer would be chocolate cake and alternating filling of dark chocolate mousse and raspberry mousse with fresh raspberries. The middle layer is going to be almond cake with a mixture of Bailey's and Dark Chocolate mousse fillings. The top layer is orange cake with tropical mousse filling.

The cake is going to be decorated all in white, to be reminiscent of the clock in the line queue area for It's a Small World. I'd post my sketch but that's all kinds of secret until the wedding itself. I am ordering wooden peg dolls for the toppers-- bigger ones for me and the Prince; four smaller ones for the munchkins.

Received the floral BEO and it sucks. I'm no expert or anything but a quick cruise around the net kinda tells me the prices Disney charges for floral are insane.

So I've started contacting outside florists who are near/familiar with Disney Weddings.

Yup seems a bit much. Sis used to work for a floral wholesaler. Glad to hear you can bring in your own florist.

I love the lace one- but the last one is so classic looking.....can't wait to see which one you picked!!

Love your thread!! Your ideas and invites are so cute :) Plus, your dress is gorgeous!! Keep us posted :cheer2:

Yay! Visitors! Thanks for popping in, guys!

I have a call at 1 pm today to go over the BEO and start making cuts with Maxine today at 1. I'm all nervous. I know I'm not the only bride who got her BEO and has to make cuts but I still feel weird about it!

Wish me luck!

I need to finish my trip review and post my (long) to-do list. I feel like we're coming into the home stretch and I'm starting to be a nervous wreck!

Since my original BEO didn't include the DJ or the cake, I made cuts but I don't know that they had the cost impact I'd hoped they'd make. I have to wait for our planner to send the updated BEO.

Like a doofus, I hadn't checked my copy of LurkyLoo's wedding book for some of the other prices and options for transportation and stuff that I can get the price down on.

Maxine also suggested that I contact Elizabeth from Floral before deciding to go with an outside florist. I emailed her and unfortunately I don't think we can get the look we want from Disney without it costing an arm and a leg.

Oh my gosh, I forgot to note here that I sent out our floral ideas to another Orlando area florist and got a really nasty note in return. I was surprised because this is a florist that is frequently used by Swan and Dolphin brides, I'm told. Upon seeing my floral list, the owner said, "This is really not going to look that pretty and we are worried about it reflecting badly on us and our reputation as a florist." Seriously? At this point, I'm thinking that even if they came back with the most amazingly low-priced proposal, I won't use them. That's harsh, right?

wow that seems like such a harsh response. Some florist are arteessts. It is insane. Good luck and i hope it all comes together

At some point I should finish my trip report, right?

In the world of wedding planning, here are some things that have happened:
  • Signed contract and sent deposit to Jason Angelini Photography
  • Signed contract and sent deposit to Sensational Ceremonies for our officiant, Rev. Glynn Ferguson
  • Signed contract and sent deposit to Beaute Speciale for hair and makeup on the wedding day
  • Started making ribbon wands
  • Purchased red Chuck Taylor low tops for Wayne and I to wear on our wedding day (I will be glittering mine!)
  • Picked an outside florist (but I still need to talk to him about our floral choices)
  • We received our TheKnot order of escort card/photo coasters, custom napkins and coasters.
  • I had Wendy from EverAfter Printables design a 2" button, custom door hangers, thank you cards and an invitation for the dessert party.
  • We received our modified BEO and I'm working on modifying it some more.

Oh you haven't heard my plan.....I'm going to try to be bumped when I fly in August so I will have another airline ticket to use. Then Tim's cousin and I will head down and visit her cousin who works for Wdw. Lol. Sneaky huh? I'll have my annual pass too.

Btw can you believe I have known you for over 19 yrs now? Amy's biryhday reminded me of decorating the lounge all those years ago!!!
