JP question

Has anyone used an out of state Justice of the Peace for your wedding ceremony at Disney? My Aunt is a JP in New Hampshire and I would really like her to marry us, but we are getting confusing information as to whether or not she can do it. When my DH2B called the Orange County Clerk office they told him it wouldn't be a problem, but if you look on the web site they seem to indicate that an out of state JP can't marry people in FL. I really like the idea of having someone I know and love marry us then a complete stranger.

funny--I'm in the midst of the same problem. MY father is a a town justice and I want hime to marry us. I called either Orange or Osceola county last year (after reading the statute and finding it slightly unclear) and was told no problem. Then, looking at the Osceola county rules, it appears that it is not allowed--so I called again, and this time I was told it is a legal question and I have to ask a Florida attorney. My dad called the Florida bar and they suggested calling the county clerk--so it is rather a circular issue!! I'll keep you posted--and ask you do the same From the way the law reads, if you break it down, it should mean that an out of state jp can do the wedding. I asked the Osceola County clerk who decides if the marriage license has been properly executed--she told me the clerk that accepts your license from your officiant makes the decision...it doesn't sound real official...

So it sounds like FL or at least Orange County has no idea. Awsome! that certainly doesn't give me anything to worry about. The only thing I got from calling twice is that its no problem. My biggest fear is going down there and finding out that I need to run out and find someone to marry us quickly. I sort of have a backup plan, but I really want my Aunt to marry us.

I'm getting married Oct. 10th. How about you?

I'm getting married September 1 so you are in luck--I will be the guinea pig. My back up plan is that all you really need is a Florida Notary Public can do the ceremony...there HAS to be a notary public in FTW!! My dad has been in touch with the Florida bar trying to figure it out...i'll let you know if he finds anything...

I have got the answer...at least in Miami-Dade county, which is where my marriage license (through a wedding for you) ended up coming from. I am running off to my wedding at the moment (YEAAAAH), but email me at codie@aol.com or PM me here and I will tell you what we had to do...
