Can anyone tell me what this ride is like? Would you compare it to anything at WDW or USF?

i would compare it to attractions such as splach mountain or in universal's islands of adventure jurassic park river adventure but it has a rollar coaster kind of track at the end of the ride

As stated before, the ride is a flume ride that is not as small as Splash Mountain (seats 10 people instead of 4) or as short as Jurassic Park. The ride follows the typical flume procedure, (go throw, climb a hill, continue through, climb another hill, go down big drop). However, right when you think the ride is over, there's one last big surprise at the end that is well hidden from the sight of the public. Trust me, this is one of those rides that may look intimidating in the beginning, but once you've done it, you'll want to go on again and again!

Scroll down my page here for a full POV of the ride.
Sheikra POVs
It's 112 megs, so it will take a while to down load. Right click on the link, and Save As to your hard drive. It's an Mpeg so it should play with Windows Media Player.

Rob, is that a POV of the ORIGINAL ride when it opened? Or just recent?

This ride looks really cool from the docs I've seen on it. I'm a big fan of the themed type rides like JP, HM, POTC etc., this looks similar to those.

Question is how long does the Atlantis themeing last on the ride? Is there a lot of different rooms and stuff, or is it kind of like the Mummy with 2 rooms of themeing then the rest thrill ride?

the ride has 3 or 4 different themed rooms before the plunge then the rest is the thrill ride which is somewhat themed

It looks fun! I can't wait to ride it! We are going to the Sea World in San Antonio and I believe they just opened Journey to Atlantis there.

That POV was taken May 22nd, 2005. I got the Sheikra POV, then kept going with Montu, Kumba. From there I drove over to SWF and got the Kracken and JTA POVs. It's was some trip in terms of getting POVs.

the journey to atlantis in orlando is completely different than in san antonio its just a log flume that switches dirrections it doesnt have any themed rooms or so ive heard

9 years since I rode journey to Atlantis and I cannot wait to ride it again!! Way better than splash mountain in my humble opinion!!

How intense is the Roller Coaster on it compared to the Coasters at Disney. Is it like BTMRR or more like EE.

I have only been to Sea World, Orlando, two times. The first time, we just wandered around, aimlessly, learning the layout of the park. Journey to Atlantis was down that day.

The next day, we were there at opening, and went straight to Journey to Atlantis. We rode it three times in a row, with no wait (maybe five minutes). We could have kept going, but we wanted to see more of the park. Our next trip, I will keep going and going and going on Journey to Atlantis. We just got tickets, for $25.00 each, read one of the other posts, so we are planning one day to Sea World in December. I cannot wait to ride Journey to Atlantis again, again, again, again, again . . . . Our DS, however, will be tall enough to ride Krakken, so I may have to wait for him over there, too. I will not ride Krakken - motion sickness - I know, call me a wimp.

Journey to Atlantis is in my top ten favorite Orlando attractions. I loved it. I also love Splash Mountain, which is also in my top ten favorite Orlando attractions.

I love the music in Splash Mountain. The story in Atlantis is cool, too; but I would give the edge in sound to Splash Mountain, but just an edge.

The theming of the que line in Splash Mountain is much better, but who really wants to spend much time in the que line. Journey to Atlantis wins in this category, at least when we were there - August - since I totally enjoyed the five minute or less wait in the que line. I assume the que line can get long at Journey to Atlantis, so do not rely on me for this. I can only tell you what it was like one day in August 2006.

The theming of the rides is about equal, both are great. Both could use a touch of paint, here and there, but that is about it. I absolutely, totally, without question, love them both. Afterall, Orlando is about attractions, and these are two of the best of the best of the best.

Finally, there is the thrill factor. Journey to Atlantis wins in this category. The roller coaster part is cool. The drop is about the same in both. I think you get a little wetter at Journey to Atlantis; but I usually avoid the front seat of Splash Mountain.

To me it is just like Splash Mountain, but with a different theme.

Enjoy.

Journey to Atlantis has some cool thrills, particularly the drop and the ending surprise, and the exterior is impressive. However, Splash Mountain is the much better ride as a whole. The animatronics, music, and overall theming are completely superior. If you're just looking for thrills, Atlantis is slightly better, but if you're hoping for a total experience, I've give the edge to Splash. Both attractions are great, though.

Do you get really wet?

When I sat in the second to last row on Journey to Atlantis, I got a little wet. The second time I rode it that day, I sat in the 2nd row, and I got really wet. So I guess it kind of depends on where you sit. It's wise to bring rain ponchos! :)

In the coaster part at the end the drop isn't that big but it's still pretty thrilling. As far as how wet you get, you'd be surprised that the part of the ride where I've gotten the wettest isn't the big drop or the coaster drop, after the big drop the boat makes a u-turn and has a section where it just drops like 3 feet, well several times I've ridden JTA and in that part for some reason especially if you're sitting in the front as it drops those 3 feet or so water just flows over the front of the boat and soaks your whole lower half!!

Yep, I experienced that the last time I rode JTA!!

Think we`ll try and sit towards the back of the boat! is that an ok`ish place. I appreciate it is a water ride but would hate to be completely soaked.
