Wondering if it's worth signing up the whole family for Rapid Rewards. I have a Southwest CC in my name and DH has an account from forever ago, but other than that I haven't bothered with RR for the rest of my gang. Is it worth signing up the kids/grandma? FWIW, we fly once a year on average.

No need if you don't want flight credits. Otherwise, you should sign up everyone for an account if you want to take advantage of earning FF points.

I signed my boys up when they were 5 and 10 and after several year they each have had enough point for a free flight. We fly about once a year also so it takes some time but it took almost no time to sign them up and add their number on each flight. If that's a bother than I wouldn't waist my time but even a free one way flight can save a couple $$$.

I too think it's worth it, as it's really no trouble to do, and you can later transfer RR points from one account to another (for a fee). I keep all the RR numbers in an email that I can search for and retrieve when making reservations.

One thing to keep in mind is that RR points do not expire so long as you earn RR points in any 24 month period, at least as I understand it -- and earnings RR points isn't hard to do if you're buying SWA tickets or renting cars/hotels with their partners -- but you don't earn RR points when you flying using RR points as we've been doing with the points accumulated on our Southwest CC. So if you're not buying tickets at least every 24 months using the kids' RR info, you may have to act later on to keep from losing accumulated points. I actually had to do that yesterday, by transferring some of my points into their RR accounts (for a minimum $20 fee each--but worth it to avoid losing points that are worth more).

But anyway, that's just a potential issue to deal with two years from now....I'd go ahead and sign them up now.

Sign up. If you need access to confirmation numbers all you have to do is log into everyone RR acct and you will see their confirmation numbers. Just remember when booking the reservation to put the RR number on the reservation. Its nice knowing I don't have to keep track of the reservation numbers its right there on our RR accounts.

From my RR acct I can do my online checkin with a few mouse clicks
