Join my "pity party" over leaving my job

I still don't know whether I was laid off or quit-funding cuts, medical reasons, downsizing, etc.-but today was my last day at work. For over two years, I loved my job, put my heart and alot of extra effort into it, teaching GED at a nonprofit agency serving low income people. My students loved me (at least they said), my supervisors always told me how lucky they were to have me teaching there, and I had a great success rate (% of students getting their GED). That's why this really surprised me today-once it was decided yesterday that I wouldn't return/be needed, it was sort of like "Don't let the door hit you in the A** on the way out". Everyone was very cold to me, laughing and joking among themselves about different things, like I was gone already. Whatever, I'll be OK tomorrow, but for the moment, I'm gonna have one big "pity party".

I am sorry about you losing your job, and about being treated so badly. Here's hoping wonderful things are in store for you in the future.

I'm sorry you lost your job. It sounds like you helped a lot of people to better their own lives. Take comfort in the fact that you know you did a good job.

PS I would politely ask whoever made the decision to let you go why you were let go. You deserve an answer, and future employers will ask you this question also. You also need to know whether your former employer is willing to give you a positive reference

Sorry to hear about your job!

On the flip side, if you really want to find out if you were laid-off, fired or quit, file for unemployment. Your prior employer must answer honestly when the paperwork comes! If you feel you were laid off or fired for no good reason, they are required to pay you. They should have really paid you in leiu of notice.

I really do think it is terrible that they gave you one day's notice that they would not need you anymore. I cannot understand any upstanding employer who would operate that way.
