John McEnroe is advertising for a car rental company

I just saw a commercial. Maybe it's just me... but it doesn't seem like a good choice having a guy who was infamous for his hot tirades on the tennis court promote a car rental company, after Hertz had unwittingly had O.J. Simpson (who later turned out to be a cold blooded murderer,) advertize for them. It does not seem like the kind of image I would have thought a car rental company would want to promote. Are they targeting customers who have road rage?

Yeah, Imzadi, do you not watch much TV? These have been on for at least a year or two in my area...

Well, let's look at the 'cup half full' angle. He is now mellowed to the point that he is laughing at himself and his antics when he was young. He's famous and he is willing to ridicule himself...that doesn't happen often.

It kind of puts him in a different light, don't you think? It shows he has matured and is respectable at this stage of his life. I think it was a great idea. Sadly, for the companies he represents, most of us rent by price not by spokesperson.

He took over raising his children when Tatum O'Neill got too strung out on drugs to do it. I always admire men who are good fathers.

He's been their spokesperson for quite awhile, and I agree, he has mellowed in his older years. I used to hate to see him because of his antics, but now I enjoy him on shows.

Well, the passion on the tennis court was a long time ago. I don't think people think of John McEnroe and road rage. I don't. I guess I think about a talented athlete who is now a commentator and a family guy.
