John Deere Gator toy-how long did your kids use?

We're being offered a used one for free. Needs a battery. DS is 5 1/2 but only 43 inches tall. Just wondering how much use he'll get out of it. How long did your kids use theirs?

My niece had one from when she was 3 until she was 9 and used it the whole time and now my other niece got it from them and she is 6.

My son has had his now for almost 2 years now. He loves it! He got it for his 5th birthday. In September he will turn 7. He is a big John Deere fanatic, but he has asked us for a power wheels 4 wheeler for his next birthday.

I'm not sure if the gator moves faster than the tractor my son received several christmases ago -- he's is about to turn 5 and while he's driven the heck outta that thing, it's losing it's charm fast.

My son still tries to ride his and he's 11!! Of course, it's out because his little brother inheirited it and loves it...We are on the third battery I think and the hard plastic wheels are completely ground down and have holes in them...but it still goes!

We got rid of ours last year when the girls were 7 and 10. They certainly got their use out of it and the PW 4-wheeler over 8 years. But there comes a time when the knees don't fit behind the dash. We have 5 acres, about half is yard, so there was plenty of room and occasion to use them. They have low and high. We started out with low but you will find yourself pushing them over the smallest of hills on low. High is much easier on the parent as they can keep going!

Our DS 5 just got his for his last birthday in February! He's tall for his age-almost 48" and has no problem riding it! Like some of the other posts said-our son is a John Deere fanatic too!!!! You can also buy an extra battery at Walmart for around $80. The battery charge will provide a couple of hours of driving time.
