I liked the Clash and is was nice to hear them in the new James Bond movie.
But of course with the death at that age it has to make one wonder if thsi wasnt a heart attack brought on by drug/alocohol useage???
I've been sick and kind of out of it, and I just found out about the death of Joe last night., .
What a drag!!!
The Ramones, Bruce, and The Clash kept me sane music wise during those awful "disco days" of the late 70's. . . and London Calling is one of the top 10 albums of all time.
I was going through and cleaning and sorting some CD's just the other day, and put it on and "Clampdown" and "Death or Glory" are still a couple of the greatest "angry young men" anthems ever recorded, and they blow away anything the Sex Pistols or any other punk band put out in those days. . .
I'll miss ya Joe..
Death or Glory
(Strummer/Jones)
Every cheap hood strikes a bargain with the
world
And ends up making payments on a sofa or a girl
Love 'n' hate tattooed across the knuckles of his hands
The hands that slap his kids around 'cause they don't understand
How death or glory becomes just another story
How death or glory becomes just another story
'N' every gimmick hungry yob digging gold from rock 'n' roll
Grabs the mike to tell us he'll die before he's sold
But i believe in this-and it's been tested by research
That he who ***** nuns will later join the church
From every dingy basement on every dingy street
I hear every dragging handclap over every dragging beat
That's just the beat of time-the beat that must go on
If you been trying for years-then we already heard your song. . .
