Jodi Arias Trial Part 8 EXTREME CRUELTY: PROVEN

Penalty phase...what will the jury decide? (1 day poll!)

  • Death

  • Life (judge will sentence within 60 days, LWOP or Parole in 25 years)

  • No unanimous decision...new penalty phase jury will be empaneled.

Results are only viewable after voting.
I wish some of these articles would get their facts straight.

Jurors, after hearing tearful statements from Alexander’s brother and sister, ruled that Arias had been “especially cruel,” a finding that made her eligible for the death penalty under Arizona law. The same jury is considering whether to sentence her to death.

No. Jurors heard from Alexander's brother and sister AFTER they had already found her "especially cruel."

There is a part of the interview after Jodi was convicted that Donnovan spokein that interview, I could not get to copy it.

Welcome, yes, question: what is going on with this trial? What are you thinking?

I'm thinking that she will probably get the death penalty, and we'll be treated to endless appeals to save her life. She'll also get a new selection of supporters.

The defense is trying to create/preserve issues for appeal. The judge is trying to prevent issues from appeal. It's maddening to the public who haven't seen this happen on a regular basis.

This. ^

Anything in particular that you think could use some clarification? :thumbsup2

Not at the moment, :rotfl2: It's just that as I've lurked, I've seen questions and said to myself that I should come in an answer once I got a free moment. But by the time I could respond, the question or moment had long passed. I didn't want to be that jackwagon who brings up things from 20 pages ago.
:confused3

So if there is anything you wanted answered that didn't get answered, feel free to fire away.

For a bit of a backstory, I was 18 when I had my daughter and I was always a bit loud and boisterous and during my pregnancy, I was a serious jerk..may I venture to say that I was a b***h!! When I was in labor, I was in so much pain and they suggested that I use the hottub which was down the hall. We went down there and it did nothing for me, plus I was reallllly hot so I declined clothes and walked down the hallway naked even though they were trying to cover me up. When I got to my room, it wasn't long after that I had to push. My mom, kid's sperm donor, 3 of my friends and the doctor and the nurses, plus a few students were in the room with me. At this point I shouted out the door "Whoever else wants to see my hoo-ha on display, get in here!!!"...that's when I heard my brother's girlfriend (who worked at the hospital...whom I disliked greatly) start coming in and I said "Except her!!! DONT LET HER IN!!!!!" :rotfl: Gosh I was so mean. But yeah, at that point I couldn't have cared less who was in there. Oh wait, let me point out my daughter's oh so sweet sperm donor said "Holy crap!!! It looks like a wet st.bernard coming through a doggy door!!!" At that point he could have went away!!!! :rotfl2:
When it came to childbirth, I wanted it to be just me and DH. But the specific thread I recall was a woman who wanted her mother there, and her MIL was demanding equal rights to be there as all. But when it comes to the crotch watch aspect of childbirth, the one with the crotch (excuse my lack of class :p ) is the one who ultimately decides who's present. Tough noogies to the MIL.
I guess PW spoke with news and said her heart went out to the Alexander family.....

Damage control.

I was just going to post this. ANNOYS THE HECK OUT OF ME. It happens with almost every article and every "news" show. On one show I was watching today (they're all running together) they were talking about the 8 mitigators and asking the guest lawyers what they thought about them, and the first one being "27 years old" and one woman lawyer goes into this big spiel about how "Well, if she's 27 now, that means she was 22 when the crime was committed...yada yada yada" and NO ONE corrected her. GET IT STRAIGHT! Geez, it just irks me. Like back when one "guest lawyer" for the defense was saying that Janeen DeMarte only spent 12 hours on the case, including everything...testing, interviewing, reading other material from the case. She spent 12 hours just interviewing Jodi.

Oh, and then there was the guest judge who said that Jodi offered to accept a plea deal for FIRST DEGREE MURDER WITH LWOP, but no, the prosecutor was determined to get the death penalty. Jodi offered 2nd Degree. At least that time, they did correct her after the commercial, because they were inundated with tweets and FB comments from the NON-expert observers.

There was also this from the above article:
Arias was briefly put on suicide watch after the conviction. Hours after the verdict, she told an Arizona TV station that she would rather get death than life and that death was the ultimate freedom.

It wasn't HOURS after the verdict...it was about a half hour, if not less. It makes a difference.

Well, we're hitting the road for Disney in less than an hour and will still be driving tomorrow so I'll miss what Jodi has to say. I sure was hoping to get to watch something other than the same old-same old that went on today.

Oh well, I'll have better things to do than listen to a convicted murderer plead for her life or make up even more lies.

According to this tweet, i guess Patti doesn't want to report her earnings or she might lose her welfare. Not sure if it is true or if I am reading the tweet correctly:

@stark3923: PATTI did not inform welfare that Patti received income from selling #jodiarias PHOTO/VIDEO TO NANCY GRACE SHOW = FACT #jodiarias

OH! And this trial gets more disgusting!! She is on welfare and sold her pics to Nancy Grace, that about says it all, JM would have had fun with that

Thank you, I have seen that same explanation "preserving the record" from several of the tv attorneys. Seems to me like its so cost intensive and such a hardship on the victim's family.

Definitely! But like they were saying on HLN, she has a way of saying things without saying them. Like when Nurmi asked her on the stand if she felt remorse, she said yes, that she wished it had never happened and that she could go back to the time before she met Travis. So basically what's she's saying is yeah, sure, she has remorse...that she ever met the man that abused her and forced her to kill him.

Did you see the Arias family leaving the courthouse? None of them looked too upset about things (um...NO ONE IS GOING TO TESTIFY ON BEHALF OF THEIR FAMILY MEMBER...NOT upsetting??), and Jodi's sister...the future cop or whatever she's going to be...was smiling, as was some woman with blond highlighted hair, who then covered her mouth...it appeared she was covering her smile. (Not the mother's twin.)

Wow, I wasn't able to watch today, but that is amazing. Honestly, her family has acted really odd. Maybe they're sick of her too??? :scratchin

When my kids were little, I was part of a moms group, and there was this woman who swore she remembered her birth. But the really special part was when she kind of RE-ENACTED while narrating it for us.

But I digress.

:scared::crazy2:

HLN will repeat and repeat and repeat... Don't worry, you'll get to see it.

Just want to clarify that when Nurmi asked Jodi if she felt remorse, this was during her testimony back in February/March, not today.

I remember when the videos of Jodi's parents being questioned by police first came out, HLN commentators (I think mostly on Dr Drew) were talking about how uncaring her father seemed...saying that she was "odd", and that he didn't sound loving. But I bet Jodi was a tough person to love. And I say that as a parent who loves my kids with all my heart, and I'm sure her parents love her, but from the sounds of what she was like, she was detached and a problem kid. And she left home at 17, so that was 15 years ago, that there's been a distance from a kid they couldn't connect to anyway. I'm just not going to blame the parents for their relationship, or lack thereof, with Jodi.

Another thing about the parents. I've also heard (primarily on Dr Drew) that they should have gotten Jodi help with her issues. A) At what point? I think it can be hard to determine when a child needs "help". And once Jodi became an adult, they couldn't force her to do anything. I don't think Jodi could be TOLD what to do. B) It bothers me, as it's portrayed on Dr Drew, that getting "help" leads to something of a cure...that she would have been "fixed" and all would've been right with the world. My sister, I suspect, has Borderline Personality Disorder. She spent YEARS in therapy with a quack, who supposedly ranked as one of the best in NY, but who later lost his license to practice (and for good reason). My sister would tell me things that he said that were so inappropriate (like, if HE cried about his own problems during a session, then she wouldn't have to pay...WTH??). AND, it wouldn't matter WHO she saw for therapy, she was a liar and a manipulator. If ever there was someone they'd want to manipulate, it would be the psychiatrist/psychologist. Does anyone (Dr Drew!!!) really think that Jodi Arias would have gone into therapy at any point, even before she killed Travis, and told the truth...how SHE was making terrible choices in her life, and NOT that she was everybody's victim? No way.

Checking in from the hospital! Left about an hour ago. I started having intense pressure and it was different, so to speak. I am now getting checked out. 2-3cm dilated, -2 station. Nurse said I'm 'favorable.' Waiting to see my OB and or resident. Contractions are still very intermittent. Nothing has been consistent since this morning. If we have the option of inducing we will. Keep you posted.

mickeystoontown. Safe driving and have a great trip....lucky you

Catch you all tomorrow for what I hope us the last time we ll all have to see n hear from the convicted one. I'm sure they ll be some type of drama and I still think ANY attempt by her will be futile.
May the jury do what is necessary and believe that they are fair and just in their decision. Thanks to them for doing their duty and dealing with this difficult tragedy. It can't be easy for them either.
Prayers for Travis Alexander's family once again
