What's your favorite veggie burger? Premade or homemade? I've tried making homemade ones, but haven't had much luck.... but I'm open for a new recipe any time! I do try to avoid too much soy, but I really like a few of the Morning Star Farms burgers.... California T'key is my favorite and my men like the Tomato Basil Pizza burger.

....P[/QUOTE]

I like the black bean burgers from morning star farms. I try to not eat them more than twice a week but it's nice when my husband grills to have something to munch on.

Silly diets: Once I read something about a diet where you eat absolutely NOTHING one day, then anything you want the next day, and alternate back and forth. This was well before the 5:2 diet craze, but the idea was sort of the same: Eating nothing would supposedly shrink your stomach/appetite so even on days when you could eat all you want, you would still eat less. Well, that just did not work for me. On nothing days I came close to passing out at work, and on eat-all-you can days I would inhale enormous quantities of unhealthy food as a "reward" to myself for making it through a day of hell. I lasted maybe five days and had definitely gained weight at the end.

I have friends now that swear by 5:2 and have amazing results, but I still just think of that all/nothing/all/nothing thing I tried years ago and just know it's not for me. Any diet that has a day of "unlimited eating" for me will also have "unlimited weight gain"

I"m with you..... I'd make a TOTAL PIG of myself on the "anything" days, I'm SURE of it! What a terrible diet!! Your metabolism would do NOTHING on the no-eating days and then have to work overtime on the splurge days.... CRAZY!

@pjlla Can I just say how amazing you are for being so up-to-date on responding to all these posts?! I am seriously impressed. Are you leading one of these next month? I love being a part of this.

Awww..... thanks for saying that! I do try hard to keep up with everyone! I'm lucky I have some flexibility in my schedule that allows me to be pretty active here when I want/need to be. And I'm SUPER happy that you are enjoying being part of the group!!

There WILL be a July thread........ Flossbolna has offered to be our "hostess with the mostess!" In the past our monthly posts had a lead/hostess and then weekly "coaches" to help with the QOTD and to keep up with the chatter. But as our group got quieter I offered to fill all of the roles for a while so that the threads didn't disappear completely! I'm SURE that help in July would be appreciated though!!

Just got home from the doctor. I went to have my thyroid tested, for various issues. We discussed my diet while I was there, and when I told him my 1200-goal daily caloric intake, he told me I'd never lose weight that way. Oops  . He bumped it up to 1500-1800, which sounds like SO MUCH. And concerns me a little that, if those are the numbers in order to LOSE weight, how much was I eating before to gain it?! :teacher: :guilty:

I also told him that I'd read you need to drink half your body weight in ounces of water every day, so I'd been aiming for that. The look he gave me! Between all of my at-home thyroid research and the water concept, I think he wanted to ban me from the internet forever. He said 64oz is plenty, barring any extenuating circumstances. Guess I'll be cutting back on my water intake, too. :rolleyes1

Whoopss!! I don't know how big you are and how active, but 1200 calories does sound pretty low. If the increase sounds like too much, aim for the LOW end of the range for now (1500) and see how that works out.

I stopped trying to drink TONS of water a while ago. It is hard when I am working at school (don't always get a bathroom break) and as long as I was staying properly hydrated, I didn't really see the need to force 2-3 liters of liquid in a day. I do drink about 2 liters at day, at least, but over the course of the entire day, not just within a 6 hour work day. Sorry if this is TMI, but I think that the standard "rule" is as long as your urine is straw colored, you are doing okay with your hydration.

Hey all! Made my evening easy on myself and changed the planned meal to hummus and tabouleh wraps with caramelized onions and goat cheese. DELISH and super easy other than the onions..... but we all love onions enough to make it worth while. Everyone got a nice side dish of fruit (strawberries and watermelon) and I dirtied minimal dishes!

I truly haven't stopped moving since I left school at 3pm until a few minutes ago when I sat down to eat my wrap and fruit. Off to move the laundry along and plan tomorrow's lunch! TTY in the a.m.!...................P

Hi all! Welcome to your first WOOHOO Wednesday of our June Challenge! Today I want you to share something that makes you say...."WOOHOO!" ANYTHING! Maybe it is the countdown to your summer vacation.... maybe it is your child's final report card of the year..... maybe it is the 10 pounds that you have lost that are finally GONE FOR GOOD.... maybe it is the hard workout that you got through without dying! Whatever it may be.... let's hear it!!

So, my woo hoos (I have to include everyone so that I don't experience any Mom guilt!): DD12 was inducted into NJHS this week, DS9 began composing his own song, DS7 perfected riding a 2-wheeler, DS1.5 is finally speaking in 2-3 words sentences, DH was named a "leading lawyer" in his field of practice, and I got my tush out of bed at 4:20 so that I was at the gym when it opened at 5 a.m!

As for silly diets - ugh. Herbalife. So freaking expensive and I was desperate for something to chew at all times. It was terrible for me. Now I'm using the Four Corners diet, as I mentioned in my 1st post. I had a ton of success before with it, and I get to talk to my f-I-l anytime I have questions or need a little "atta boy."

I've tried Advocare AND Plexus, so no judgment on your "Herbalifestyle" lol. Those Facebook posts just seem so darn good sometimes!

Good morning all! Welcome to your QOTD for Thursday, June 11, 2015:

summer.jpg

For many of us, summer is already in FULL SWING! The kiddos are out of school, the summer weather is out in full force, summer weddings and graduations are here, and of course VACATION TIME!

What do you find DIFFICULT (or, if you are a newbie, what do you ANTICIPATE will be difficult) about staying the course on your healthy lifestyle during the summer months (i.e. more parties, bbq season)?? What makes it EASIER to stay on plan in the warm months (more fresh fruit, better weather to be outdoors)?

Off to work in exactly 2 minutes! I'll pop on during the day if I have time/access, but no promises!................P

My whole family LOVES Morning Star which is weird because my whole family are definitely carnivores lol. Last night we had the Garden Veggie which were a favorite with everyone except the 10 year old DD, she did not like the mushrooms in them (they were pretty big pieces and she doesn't like the way cooked mushrooms look...)we do not eat regular burgers anymore only Morning Star. Have you tried their chicken patties yet? I love them, they taste just like chicken, it's kind of weird actually how much they taste like chicken without any chicken.

Well despite this past week and the terribleness that has been my eating...warmer weather makes it easier for me in terms of exercise, I also like the availability of fresh produce. Weather here in Michigan in the winter can be very unruly coupled with it getting dark before I even leave work makes it impossible to get outdoors to exercise so I like the warm better. I would love to move to a milder climate, but it's not in the cards right now so...

1) Going to bed at a reasonable time and getting up at a reasonable time. It's so hard for me to go to bed while it's still light out!
2) The HEAT. It's so miserable during the day that I don't want to do anything at all except sit and be hot and miserable.

LOVE Morning Star! The black bean burgers and the chik'n patties are my FAVORITES. They're so good! The hot dogs aren't bad, either.

It's a lot harder for me just because there are more people around (my dad is an educator and is home much of the summer) and I sometimes feel embarrassed about going out for exercise or making healthier food. It's also hard because we do day trips sometimes which means I have to gab lunch and snacks to go (although when we go to Connecticut, we often stop at my favorite vegetarian restaurant, which is nice).

The good thing about summer is that I love summer fruits - berries, plums, apricots - makes it so much easier to eat fruit!

Haven't had the hot dogs, but youngest DD has had the ribs and loves them too...
I love the chicken patties too...they are yummy as a sandwich or with a side of potatoes.

The hardest part of the summer for me is that is lasts for eons....it's gonna be hot here until October. It makes it almost impossible to be outside most of the day.

The best part is berry season....I love raspberries!

What i find difficult is when it is humid out. I find myself inside and with all the food:rolleyes1 :sad2: Easier is all the yummy fresh fruit and veggies. I seem to eat a lot of that during the summer time. Plus if the humidity isn't bad, I'm outside with my son.

The hardest part about staying healthy during the summer is definitely the heat! I am NOT a heat-loving person at all. Once we hit 100+ during the day I will have to do better about making myself get up early to walk, etc. Right now I'm walking mostly in the evenings and it's bearable. I walked to a playground with 2 of my kids mid-afternoon today (about 2.5 miles round trip), and although most of the trail was in the shade, it was still really difficult with the heat!

So nice that you were able to include EVERYONE in your WOOHOO! Congrats to ALL!

I keep meaning to find time to check out this plan! Hope I can get to it this weekend.

We do use the "chicken" patties occasionally. My DS has a poultry allergy, so this is as close to real chicken as he gets. I like the MSF Garden Veggie burgers, but find them a bit bland unless I dress them up with salsa or horseradish or something. My men LOVE the tomato basil pizza burgers.

I can remember having to go to bed when it was light out as a kid and being TOTALLY insulted! Now I wouldn't care less!

Never tried the hot dogs or the ribs.... I think I tried the MSF breakfast sausage once.... just not really a sausage person I guess. DS used to eat the "chicken" nuggets occasionally but it isn't something he really asks for.

Playing morning catch-up here!.................P

Why would you be embarrassed about making healthier foods? You should be PROUD of making healthier choices for YOURSELF and whoever else you cook for! I'll bet your Dad would be proud of you too!!

MMMmm.... plums!!

I love the chicken patties too...they are yummy as a sandwich or with a side of potatoes.

And I've made them into "chicken" parm sandwiches!

The hardest part of the summer for me is that is lasts for eons....it's gonna be hot here until October. It makes it almost impossible to be outside most of the day.

I love berries too.... strawberry season is FINALLY upon us here! And you can send me your hot weather when you are tired of it!!

Humidity is a killer. It was about 90° here yesterday, but it wasn't humid so it wasn't bad at all.... but today is supposed to be "sticky".... YUCK.

Yup.... gotta find a way to do it early when it is coolest. No fun and not healthy to be out there when it is 100° or more!

Caught up for now!..............P

Morning all! Welcome to your FUN FRIDAY QOTD for Friday, June 21, 2015:

Tell me a quick story about yourself using MOST emoticons/emojis/smilies!! I'll tell my story first to get us started!

Last night my princess: finally :car: home for the weekend. The :cat: was there to :welcome: her first. We all:love1: and :grouphug: and had a lot of time to :chat:. After dinner she and I went for a walk in the :sunny: and :flower3:. We even saw a:butterfly. Then we relaxed and :happytv:. She doesn't have a :happytv: at school so it was a treat.

Today she will probably :laundy: while I :teacher:. Just a 7 days of :teacher: left for me! I cannot wait until the last day when I  and :cheer2: that the year is finally over!

This weekend I think I will probably popcorn:: and of course....:laundy: because it never ends...............P

I'll be back later with my emoticon story (gotta think of something good to tell!) but just came by to brag for a second (I figured you guys wouldn't mind too much!). I managed to get up this morning, get in 30 minutes on the treadmill, do some light arm stuff on the weight bench, rearrange the garage a little, play with my dog for a little while before it got hot out (it's still so muggy here! There is absolutely no reason it should be so muggy out at 6:15am), have breakfast and sit and chill for a minute before the daily construction-fight to work. and it's FRIDAY!!!! :jumping1:

I'm not sure when we're supposed to officially update, but I'm down 2 lbs. as of this morning! :) I've hit my 10,000/day step goal 6/7 days (but my average over the 7 days is above 10,000) and haven't had a soda all week. I'm happy! :)

I only have a minute this morning because I've got an exam on Monday that I am not even remotely prepared for... meaning, I've barely started reading the book or covering the material, so I'll be cramming all day today and probably for the entire weekend. It sucks, but I brought it on myself so, I guess I'll just suck it up and hope for the best.

As of last night, I have 91,767 steps out of my 272,000 for the month so I am at 33.7% for this Friday's check-in.

Y'all have a fun Friday and a great weekend!
