Jiko appitizers and dessert as a meal

I'm planning on going to Jiko in March for my sister and I graduation gift to ourselves. We are on a semi tight budget but I was able to pull off staying at AKV and so I figure I really want to check out what Jiko has to offer since I have heard rave reviews about it.

My question is would it be appropriate for us to order a few different appetizers and soup and salad and then share a dessert without ordering an entree?

I have looked over the menu and although some of them look nice, I would much prefer to taste many different items and I like the top part of the menu better than the bottom.

So would I get any weird looks or questioning from the wait staff if I did this? Has anyone else done this? We are not on the DDP so that is not an issue.

I've done it several times at Jiko and I do agree with your assessment of the menu. I greatly prefer several smaller courses, even if it costs as much or more than getting an entree. Another option would be to order 2 individual apps and then have the kitchen split an entree. But, overall I think their starters are better than the mains. I don't think you'll get any flack from the waitperson. Enjoy your meal! I just ate there on Monday, as part of the Wanyama Safari and again preferred the appetizers and desserts to the entrees (we had samples of many menu items).

I've done appetizers and dessert at Jiko without any problems. I most recently did appetizers only as a meal at California Grill last month. There's no stigma involved whatsoever. ;)

I agree, there is no stigma with ordering appetizers and dessert, or just appetizers. Dh and I often order appetizers for our meals and have never been made to feel uncomfortable because of it. Enjoy!

Actually, this is exactly what I intend to do when eating at Jiko in the future. I was really underwhelmed by the entrees there (I will admit to having the palate of a 13 y/o!!), but I really enjoyed the flatbread pizza and dessert..so that's what I'm planning on ordering the next time.

There is absolutely no problem whatsoever with going into a Disney restaurant and not ordering an entree. They don't care. No idea why anyone on the wait staff should question it. The flatbreads in particular are big enough for a meal. You order several appetizers, soup, salad, and a dessert, and it'll likely cost as much as it would if you ordered an entree.

We always get an appetizer sampler platter at Jiko and then a soup. I don't even do the dessert.
