I was planning a Jiko dinner for an upcoming trip, but read a review that indicated that the quality may have gone way downhill. Has anyone had a recent experience that might help me decide?

I was there about 10 days ago and it was excellent. The people at the tables on either side of me really thought it was great also.

We were there in December, and it was AMAZING!!!!!!

Just go with open taste buds........ they use some unusual spices.

January 23, 2004!

DD had her usual, Fillet Mignon, no complaints from her!

I tried a new item, the Bass! Excellent!

I LOVED Jiko.

If you can, ask for a waitress named Shelley. She's wonderful, and knows the menu like the back of her hand. I took every suggestion she gave me, and had one of the best meals I've ever had.

we ate there last during MLK. the food was great. I highly recommend the scallops entree or the filet mignon. I've had other dishes, but I love the scallops.

appetizers: the beef cinnamon rolls, tuna, and flatbreads

WE ate there last trip and Jiko's was just as good as it always was. It's on our "must do" list every time we visit WDW.

Thanks everyone. I'm definitely going to do it, and glad I asked.

I wish there was a Jiko closer to home. :( I LOVE this place!

And I have to agree - Shelley is a GREAT waitress...knows the menu well and DOES offer some great suggestions.

We also ate at Jiko as part of the sunset safari - so we were treated to a little bit of practically everything on the menu!

Not to miss:
appetizers - the flat bread trio - comes with a bunch of breads and different dipping sauces - really gets your mouth ready for the 'flavor' of jiko

also - the spiced beef wraps are yummy!

Filet with mac and cheese (trust me - GOOD!)
Chicken - amazing sauce on top!
DH liked the monkfish (??) and the pork - but i don't eat either so I passed.

desserts - the pistachio creme brulee and the chocolate candies are, by far, the BEST!

and they make one fine apple martini! But i do suggest sampling some of the south african wines with dinner!

We just got back and we had our anniversary dinner there. The service and the food were wonderful. I had the Monkfish which is to die for. My wife the filet which was also wonderful. If the service or quality has gone down we certainly did not see it. Best of luck:wave:

We were there in Dec. and the waiter was good at first but service went down to really bad by the evenings end. We both felt that we started getting 2nd class treatment only after we told our waiter that we only needed a small dinner(ordered 2 appetizers and split an entree-Steak with mac &cheese, plus a glass of wine). We wanted to save room for dessert but after the way our waiter handled the problem with our entree i just wanted out of there. I wasn't looking for a refund just wanted to let them know there was a problem the steak was wonderful but the macaroni was undercooked(it was very gummy and would stick to your teeth)the waiter:snooty:inform us very rudely it was al dente. I've eaten my share of pasta some in very high class resturant this was not al dente. I didn't get a manager only because DH doesn't like conflict. I realize that this was most likely an isolated case so if i stay at the AKL(Oct'04/Dec.'04 trip)i will give it a 2nd chance but won't make it a priority if staying at another hotel. Good luck and let us know what you think.

We ate there five weeks ago--it was wonderful as always. Going back this Friday, and then again on Sunday! :)

I haven't posted my review as yet but I will tell you my parents who are true blue foodies eat there last week and said this was the best meal they have had in years. To put it in perspective they are from Germany and return evey year and dine at some of the best restuarants in Germany and France. I was surprised at the glowing review. Last year they only gave a luke warm review of V&A.

Every Restaurant can have an off night. I would look at consistancy and enjoy!!!

mhelsey - I'm surprised that you were treated badly. When DD and I ate here last March (second time that week!) I ordered an appetizer for my main course, as I wasn't very hungry. When I placed my order for the ahi tuna, the waiter asked me if I liked sushi, and I answered that I did. The description of the tuna was such that I thought it would be a seared piece of tuna, but when I received it, it was diced raw tuna, over some rather different grains. Not what I expected, but the waiter did try to warn me!!

I gamely tried to eat it, but did not like it very well. I told DD I did not want the waiter to see that he was right, so I kept trying to eat a little, and spread it out on the plate to disguise it. But the more I tried to hide it, the more there seemed to be!!!

By the time the waiter returned, DD and I were laughing hysterically, and I confessed my dilemma. He laughed with us, and when he brought the check, the appetizer had been deducted from the total. We tried to tell him this wasn't necessary, but he was wonderful, and said that we shouldn't pay for something we didn't like. Needless to say, he received a very good tip!!

Long story only slightly less long, we love this restaurant, and have PS for April!! And the monkfish and filet are delightful!!

We love Jiko. We try to eat here at least once on every trip. On our last trip this past Dec. I had the Beef Tenderloin with macaroni & cheese and just loved it.

We ate there in Aug. 03 and we have a PS for our March trip. DH & I ate there during an adult-only trip & I fell in love with the grain & grilled tofu dinner that I had. We were a little reluctant to bring DSs (16 & 9) esp. our youngest, somewhat selective eater. But we showed them a sample menu & they gave it a try in Aug. It immediately joined their list of places they wanted to eat in March. We enjoyed it more than Boma, but we are not "buffet" people.

tried it this past Dec and had a very good meal. I had the delicious monkfish and three others in my party had the filet that they all thought was great

we had two flatbreads that were yummy and I had a zebratini after dinner - yum!
