Coming from CT midway between Hartford and Danbury--how much time should we give ourselves to get to JFK? We've never flown from there before--Hartford fares are soooo high. We can get Jet Blue $99 each way from JFK. We're flying out in November so no SWA fares yet, but the October fares are $137 each way!!! I don't know if it's a bigger hassle to travel to JFK or pay the higher fares SW is charging. :confused3
TIA for any info!!!

Bridget

I think you're going to have to plan at least 2 + hours to get from that area of CT to JFK. Depending on the difference in cost, I'm not sure if it's worth that much of a drive for only $20 or $30/pp.

I think it would depend on the time of day that you are leaving. I have left very early from CT to get to JFK for a 7am flight, and the traffic isn't bad at that time, but checking baggage, getting through security, etc. is time consuming. If you are leaving CT during any peak hours, you will encounter traffic through CT and into NY. What time are you leaving?

For the small difference in price, I would not go through the hassle of flying from JFK.

Plus, I have never flown on a Jet Blue flight through JFK where the flight has left even close to on time.

I've always flew out of LGA or JFK because I was only ten minutes from the airport (twenty to JFK). Now that I'm living out on Long Island, I absolutely will not, under any circumstances, fly out of The City ever again - even for a lower fare.
Now I live ten minutes from MacArthur and I will gladly pay the extra fifty bucks per head for the convenience of a leisurely five mile drive to a clean airport where I don't have to worry about anything - snarling traffic, long security lines, long check-in lines, etc.
You Know You will ALWAYS hit traffic on the way to JFK. I've flown into/out of JFK for fifteen years and Not Once Ever had we breezed through - And we lived in The Bronx which should only be a twenty minute drive.

IMO - You're getting ready to have a wonderful time on a vacation. Why mess it up getting all aggravated and you haven't even taken off from NY yet?
Yes, fares are more expensive, but you have to weigh your options. This is one area where spending a little more for convenience is better.
Take it from a seasoned Native New Yorker - Fly out of CT!

Thanks for the replies---I think I'll just wait for the November SW fares to come out and just fly out of Hartford. BDL is alot more convenient for us, that's why I was so hesitant to book out of JFK. :sunny:

We live in lower Westchester and plan on 3 hours for travel time and check in.
We have been close on a few times. Stay in CT.
