Has anyone ever flown this airlines? I am less than thrilled with them right now (vent to follow). :(

About 2 weeks ago, I had to fly to Florida for a family emergency. As fate would have it, I had to fly over Martin Luther King Day weekend. Yes, I know it's a holiday weekend and airfare is higher. I called a few airlines and asked about compassion fares. All were very helpful, until I called JetBlue. The JetBlue sales agent was less than helpful, and said in a sarcastic tone that they don't offer "compassion" fare because they are so cheap, they don't need to. Their airfare was $369 RT from New York City to West Palm Beach which was more than any other airline, compassion fare or not. I ended up flying MidWay, because they were the nicest about the whole thing and it ended up being $300 RT, which was $69 LESS than JetBlue.

I wrote to JetBlue Customer Relations about two weeks ago and griped about their sales agent (who's name I didn't get, but I was too upset to deal with him at that point) and their less than competitive airfare. I have not received any response. I just sent the fax to their CEO.

Has anyone else ever dealt with this airline? Are they always like this, or is it just this one instance? They advertise "$79 each way" airfare, which they have yet to honor. I am flying to Florida in March, and while they want $260 RT, USAir is only $200.

Thanks for listening. I feel better now!

I have been hearing lately that JetBlue's very low advertised fares are very rarely available between New York and Florida and that the other airlines are cheaper quite often. It appears that JetBlue is only selling a very few seats at these low fares and for the rest of their seats they are charging higher fares. There is nothing wrong with that. They are in business to make a profit and if they can sell their seats at a higher fare, they should do so, as long as they do make some seats available at the advertised fare.

As to the lack of a compassion fare, that does not surprise me. Southwest has the same policy because they are also a low fare carrier. But you are really not comparing apples to apples by using Midway's fare as a comparison, because Midway does not serve the route non-stop.

As to JetBlue's service, I have heard nothing but wonderful things about them. It's a shame that you had to deal with a less than understanding employee.

Sheryl --

I understand all of that. As for apples to apples, USAir is cheaper than JetBlue. I am currently flying to Florida in March and by pricing out two one way segments (to Orlando and then returning from West Palm Beach), USAir is cheaper on both segments by $30 and $50. I can believe they only price a few seats at the cheapest fare, but I will go as far to say that their advertising is misleading.

My complaint about JetBlue is that (1) the sales agent's sarcastic attitude got me even more upset and frustrated than I was, and (2) they do not have the most competitive airfare, even though they vigorously claim they do.

I'm sure my stress level didn't help me feel any better, but as I said, I did write to the CEO, and now I feel better.

Jet Blue's fare's get higher as their seat inventory get's lower. So if Jet Blue has 4 seats left on the flight and US Air has 60 seats left on the flight, obviously US Air will have the lower fare.

By the way if you compare the experience of flying Jetblue to flying USAir's horrible Metrojet crammed planes you might even think the price difference is worth it!

Haven't flown Jet Blue yet but have 4 seats to Orlando in Feb. There rates were by far the lowest and I'm into blue potato chips...can't wait

Jon --

I admit I would probably like JetBlue better, but I have a bitter taste in my mouth at the moment, so I'm flying USAir. Additionally, USAir lands in WDW 2 hours earlier than JetBlue, and I'm only spending 4 days there. I will probably end up using JetBlue to visit my parents eventually.

Donna, We used USair this past Dec. for a trip to Miami. THEY WERE AWFUL!!! Oops, sorry to yell. Late flights, broken plains(1 on the way down 3 on the way back) and rude counter people.

We were 5 hrs late getting down. This made us late for a private cruise from Marathon. Others were going to be late for their cruises with Carnival. The Carnival passengers were given prefferential treatment and got new flights and didn't miss their trip. We had to rebook on our own(I'm sure some of you out there have been in an airport and have tried to track down another flight, not fun). The earliest flight still made us miss our cruise. Granted, it didn't cost me a ton of $$ but that's not the point. It was a missed opportunity for us.

My brother flies just about every airline. He flies Jet Blue every chance. Always has had great success with them.

Does this mean that Jet Blue is better than USAir? Only if you use these two examples. I have sent a letter to USAir customer service...no response yet. I won't use them again until I hear that their service is better or until I get bitten by the other airlines.

I will also say this about the USAir flight attendents, they were outstanding. We were obviously angered by what had happened, they new this and tried to make the rest of our trip very comfortable. They did a great job.

I flew USAir in December. My elderly mom, who was still recovering from a cold, developed distress about 50 miles outside of Orlando. I couldn't find an extra thought in my brain, but the stewardess paged over head for medical personnel. A paramedic and a radiologist were seated in the row behind us and another physician also stepped forward. They gave her oxygen and she perked right up. The doc said he felt is was from a lowered oxygen level in the cabin. The crew was great, got us off the plane first and had paramedics at the gate to check her out. When we returned home, I had arranged for supplemental oxygen for her in flight. The return crew was great too, wouldn't allow us to leave the tarmac until they had the oxygen flowing correctly and we had no problems. In fact, one of Pittsburgh's air traffic controllers, who happened to be boarding just ahead of us and who had taken care of his dad, helped me board her in Orlando and then waited to help me get her off the plane in Pittsburgh. I still owe USAir a letter commending these two flight crews and hopefully they'll find that air traffic controller and tell him too.

It's too bad that you talked to the wrong person but it just shows that it was the PERSON and perhaps NOT the company. Those folks at USAir will never know how much their kindness meant to me. God bless them
