Jet Blue $1198 for 4 of us....should I book it [March Break]

Hello, out of where?
I can't say if that is good or not... We on in Moncton NB and we are driving to Portland Maine (7 hr drive) to fly out. 4 tickets at $750. Even with the gas and hotel stays, still cheaper than flying out anywhere close to here. Also, we don't have passports yet, and depending on the airline... you don't need passports. Thank goodness Air Tran is one of them!

WE love road trips and are excited for the driving part too. Hopefully Dec weather will co operate. ;) Also, what are your dates?

Hi ~ We live in Mississauga and fly from Buffalo. We drive about 75 minutes to the airport from home [no traffic or border wait].

Our dates are in high-season....March Break. I think it's a fair price considering the current economic climate. However, my instinct is to wait a little and see if Southwest offers a good price. The high end of my airfare budget is $1300, but I'd like to see $1000 for all four of us.

Thanks! S

Glad I booked our flights at 8:30 am this morning, at that time for the 3 of us Syr to MCO I got $1078.20. Within 2 hours the price had already gone up same flight etc. to $1498.50!!!!

If you can live with the price you really should go ahead and book it!!!

I'd also say go for it. There was a time when I aimed for under $250 per person from Buffalo. In today's climate, I'd say anything under $300 is doing well. As a reference, I paid $140 pp one way (Tampa - BUF) for our Feb 1 flight the day SW released their fares. If Feb 1 (which is not near any holidays) is that much, I'm sure you'll pay at least that for March Break (unless of course you can be flexible and fly midweek).

Also glad I booked my flights early this am. The cost of our two direct return flights from SYR to MCO for March Break has increased by $80 within 12 hrs.:scared1:

I booked our SYR to MCO and return (both direct flights) this afternoon as well. Our AAA girl had said the rates wouldn't be available until October. I'm glad curiosity got the best of me and I checked today!! Now I feel official with our air done.

mmm....to be honest SandraC ,I think it might be a bit risky based on the fact that SWA and Air Trans recent prices have not convinced me that they will drop down (particularily when it is March break).Like previous posters have mentioned, you have to ask yourself...Do I pay the price offered right now (that I can afford to pay)....or,take a chance and wait for something that might not come. I've done that twice.Once it worked out and once it didn't.

Don't you need a passport to clear customs ?

Canadian citizens/residents do not require passports (at this time) to enter this USA via a land border. The posters flying out of Buffalo are crossing into the USA via a land border, so no passport is required.

I know SandraC, I was not pleased when I saw the price and have been holding out - ours is $2100 for 5 of us!! BUt I do think it's just a sign of the times and those $300 and lesstickets just don't exist anymore. I believe JetBlue has a "don't pay until Dec" which should soften the blow. I am going to call today......

FYI - I tried every other alternative - detroit, sracuse, Toronto on every airline but I want good flight times and direct so this is all I could find. I think there were a few flights for $368 but they were stopovers with evening flights so NO THANKS!

I'll be on the JetBlue direct flights March 11th and 21st!

I am in the phone with JetBlue right now and get this - the fare has increased $40 since yesterday and she can only give me 2 seats at this "discount" then she is booking the next 3 at $40 more!

I tried booking on line and it rejected my booking because the fares and seats are dissapearing as I am on the line with her!

I checked the JB airfares this am and the prices for one way from SYR to MCO for March break are now crazy expensive! The lowest price is now the direct flight and I don't imagine it will last long! Prices are 389 and up for one way non-direct! All the other airlines must have really decreased their flights from SYR to MCO and JB is selling out at these price points! It looks like people are paying those prices because the fares can only go higher! :scared1:

Nope, not until June 2009. Apparently once in a while they will ask...given whatever conditions they choose I suppose. But We have been into the states 2 times in 3 months (granted not a lot...i know) and one cutoms office only glanced at our IDs. They aren't huge border crossings, so perhaps this affects it?? Im not too sure.
