Jenny Craig...so how much does it Really cost?

I have done it. The food runs between $300-$400 per month for one person. This does NOT include the food you need to buy from the grocery store. So, add yogurt, milk, veggies, and fruits to that, and you can easily run $500 per month.

When I was single and working it wasn't a big deal, but when you have a family to feed and you have to cook for them anyway, it becomes more problematic.

The food is good the first month or two, then it gets boring. Then you wonder why you are paying tons of $$ for food you don't even like anymore.

The truth is that it works because everything is portioned out for you and you are accountable. If you can find a way to measure your foods, keep a food journal, and find someone you can be accountable to, you can easily achieve the same or better results.

I did the Jenny Craig program about 20 years ago and back then I thought the price was in line with what I would normally pay for food at home, maybe a bit more. I thought the food taste wise was pretty good and I was able to continue on the program to meet my goal. One thing I didn't do was buy the vitamins that they tried to sell me every week. That would have jacked the price right up and I had cheaper, multi vitamins at home already so I couldn't be swayed.

Also, you know how WW teaches you constantly about which foods to choose, how to prepare them and what to watch out for? JC didn't do that very well, so that was a negative since without that ingrained in me the weight came back eventually. Hopefully that has changed now since so many years since I've done the program.

I would not waste your money. There are several great online sites that can help you and will either be free or much less expensive. I recommend Spark people, or Jillian Michaels sight. I speak from someone currently changing my lifestyle....not dieting. I didnt want to have some "program" that Id have to suddenly give up and go back to the real world, so Im using online sites, to help me make my adjustments in the real world. So far Ive lost 16 lbs and hubbies lost 28! If its the counselors you want, Id suggest WW, although a program, they do teach more real world adaption then others.

Really you can do WW much better. If you want portion control you can get the frozen meals and snacks that WW has and it will be about half of what Jenny Craig costs. I have done both and found that WW taught me the better skills to the point that I can do it on my own without even going to meetings. DWLZ.com is a free site that it all about WW and the points system.

It costs ALOT! I agree with doing WW. It teaches you how to eat normal food rather than transitioning into eating normal food. At the time I only had the DH but I still had to cook a meal for him then eat my tiny meal and an entire can of veggies. I lost about 35lbs but gained it all back once I quit. It was around $75.00/week for their food plus my normal food bill. You have to suplement the diet with your own fruits and veggies. Also they try to sell you their vitamins, videos, and try to make you buy a lifetime membership.

I've never tried Jenny Craig, or any of the packaged meal plans. I'm losing weight right now with a Body Bugg device that I bought off E-bay. I love it. It keeps track of how many calories I burn, how many steps I take, and has meal planning capabilities on the website. I ordered a small monitor I can wear on my clothing so I can keep track all day long of how many calories I'm burning and my steps.

If you're thinking about paying $300 a month for special food, it might be worth checking out the Body Bugg. I got my armband off e-bay for $185, and then paid another $50 for the small monitor thing. :scared1: On the body bugg website, you can order both together for $250.

I did JC and it was really expensive. I ran into my old JC director the other day. She stated they had a lot of repeat customers because you do buy the preportioned meals at first. Then you switch to maintenance and this is where her clients would struggle. And start the program over again. Some people have success on it but I could not justify the cost of the food. As other posters have stated the food is expensive..I think the "budget" week they have still runs 90 a week. And the food gets really old after a 2 months. I can still remember the french toast breakfast because I ate it so much. Good luck with your decision.
