Day 1: Arrival Day

Well, our WDW vacation began as we left at 10:30am for our drive from Tennessee to Orlando. The drive down wasn’t that bad, but that was really the last thing on our minds at that time. As we are heading to Florida DH and I are both sick  – I was still suffering from a cold turned sinus infection, and Tom awoke in the morning with a sore throat. I had gone to the Dr. on Thursday to get meds so I wouldn’t have to seek medical attention in Florida should I get worse. I was packed with antibiotics, but poor Tom was just not doing well. Our trip down was pretty uneventful until we hit Valdosta – Tom pulls into the gas station to fill up and says “Time for you to drive for awhile”. All I could say was, “You want me to do WHAT??” . Now, let me explain before you think I can’t drive. I usually am the designated driver on our road trips, cause I love to drive. Unfortunately, I only know how to drive an automatic vehicle, and we were driving DH’s manual transmission pick-up….I know my mouth must have been open when he made that statement. I knew he was feeling bad, and while I had practiced with a manual in a car, I had only tried to drive his truck once, and just kept killing it. I was frightened, but decided to give it a try for his benefit. I actually did pretty well, and we were again on our way. I didn’t start to panic until we hit the Florida Turnpike and the first toll booth was in sight. I did ok at the toll booths and decided I would just drive to the Animal Kingdom Lodge where we were staying that night. Well, my luck ran out when we made it to the security booth and I just couldn’t get it up there – so we switched places, and finally were parked and heading inside.

We had been in the hotel last year when we ate at Boma, and I just love the lobby area. We went to check in, and there was just one couple ahead of us at the desk. It was now about 8:30pm, and just when the couple leaves, here comes trouble. The gentleman at the desk was waving us to come up when this woman just decides to bypass the line and walked right up to the counter. All I could do was look at DH in disbelief :o . The gentleman tried to explain to her that he needed to help the next person in line first, but she would not hear of it. We were not sure what her problem was – we think she wanted a room change, but whatever it was, she was not very nice about it. So, he goes to the back to get a manager, and while he is gone - she disappears. She walked down to the end of the counter and starts talking to someone else!!! She was very impatient, and all I could think about was how rude she was in such a happy place! The gentleman comes back out and asked us if we saw where she went. We told him that she went down to the end of the counter, and he said “Ok then, may I help you?”. We finally got checked in and were in room 5234 down the Kudo trail facing the Savannah. When we first got into the room, we did notice how dark they were compared to other hotel rooms, but the lighting we had was sufficient. We opened the balcony door to see what animals were around today and we did see a couple of Giraffe’s, some birds and about 4 Ankole Cattle. At first we thought they were statues, they weren’t moving, but if you really watched them, you could see small movements among them. We then decided to find something to eat, so we headed down to the Mara and ordered a pizza. We figured this would be the easiest thing to order and eat tonight – placed the order and then went into the gift shop to pick up some bottled water. By the time we got back to Mara, our pizza was done, so we were back to the room. While eating, DH says his throat is feeling a bit better, which makes me feel better. I wasn’t doing too badly, either, so my spirits were picking up. We were watching the Disney channels, and just love these. I would love to record them to watch over and over while at home!! TS Henri was over head, but no rain when we arrived – it was actually breaking up, which was excellent news for us.

After eating (the pizza was good), we decided to get ready for bed and start our vacation officially tomorrow. We were checking into the Hard Rock Hotel and having a day at USF and IOA. Until next time, good night.

it isn't fun to be ill on vacation.......thanks for your report

I guess that lady though her problem was more important than your check in

Looking forward to day two!

>>^..^<<

How rude can someone be??? People who are in Disney need to remember the magical essence of Disney and learn to relax. After all, everyone is there on vacation. I can't wait to read more about your trip!!

Great first day.......
I love the AKL.........
Looking forward to day 2 & hoping your feeling better.
