I've been putting off starting a new PJ for soooo long, but I'm finally ready to give it a go! I am Amy, dh is Jeff, and this is our second attempt at a VR for our 20th anniversary. Some may remember that we were all good to go for a renewal at the Swan on our actual 20th last October, but right before the VR, my dad left my mom, and there was no way I could have a VR with such upheaval and only half of the family there. We cancelled everything and decided to reschedule at a (saner) date.
So here we are in 2012, and we originally signed with DFTW to do an Escape VR for Jeff, me, our son Travis and his gf Lori attending. We thought we really wanted the MK shoot and to be in the WP. However, we had a whole slew of problems with them and after they changed our cake-cutting location and refused to give us options (ones which were given to other couples -- it boggles my mind that they refused to give them to us, and that was the crux of the matter), we cancelled with them.
Fortunately, the fabulous Karen at Just Marry swooped in and rescued us from ourselves again, and we are scheduled for a ceremony on May 1st at 10:00 a.m. at the Swan's Crescent Terrace. It's exactly halfway between our 20th and 21st anniversaries, so we keep referring to it as our "half-iversary".
We are having Rev. Jack Day conduct the ceremony, Christine MacPhail as our harpist, and a small heart-shaped cake made by the Swan bakery. Kristen Weaver is our photographer -- I *love* her style! And as Karen has received a well-deserved promotion at Just Marry, our new planner is Jennifer Haskell, who has been lovely to deal with.
In the midst of this, we'd made the decision to move after almost 19 years in the same house, and we unexpectedly found a lovely new home but sooner than planned! We take possession April 1st, so now I am in super-panic mode trying to sort through and pack almost 2 decades' worth of life!
Because of the additional moving expenses, we have had to try and cut back on our spending for the VR. I'd wanted to hire a florist, but am now doing the small amount of flowers myself in silks. Jeff and I did get new rings for our right hands (he really wanted to for some reason, LOL) and I ended up chucking the dress I'd planned to wear for our Disney VR and finally bought the dress of my dreams. It's a huge ballgown and I LOOOOOOOOOOVE it. It's very simple -- the only embellishment on it is a bow with a rhinestone buckle. I also got a little bolero in the same fabric to wear with it. And I'm wearing my beloved cowboy boots, as we're going with an outdoorsy vibe.
The boys will wear dress shirts, vests and ties, but will be in blue jeans and boots as well. Not sure what ds' gf will be wearing, but she's going to do a short reading for us so she'll be taking part in the ceremony, too.
We are spending the first 3 nights of the trip at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge so we can do photos there the morning of the VR (we also used to own DVC there and have wonderful memories of the place), and then moving to our current DVC home, Bay Lake Tower for the last 4 nights. We'll have 2-bedrooms at both, and at BLT we have a MK view (though I don't expect the view to be too spectacular with all the construction going on).
That's it for now ... I'm still working on pulling the little details together.
