Jedis, Pirates and Extended Family! A May/June 2012 TR Update: Lunch @ H&V

Aww - it can be hard traveling with more than the immediate family, can't it??? I'm glad you were able to make the best of it.

The safari looked great. And I so want to take that train ride - I couldn't get Willow to do it last year. :confused3

We finally made it over to Asia and Expedition Everest. This was the first time Anthony was tall enough to ride and he said he wanted to. My mom and BIL stayed with Tessa and my niece while the rest of us got in line. I rode with Anthony and when the ride started he kept saying, "this is fun!" Then we started going up the hill. Anthony got really quiet and then we went backwards. He was doing good but had his eyes closed. Then we went down the big hill. Poor Anthony was so scared he was crouched down and I was trying to get him to sit up. Once we got down the hill he finally sat up but he kept his eyes shut tight!

Photo0703FourBySix-1.jpg

When we stopped Anthony said, "I am NOT riding that again." I told him that was perfectly fine. Chad got our pictures added to our PhotoPass Plus card and we found everyone. When we met up my nephews wanted to ride again and Anthony said he wanted to ride again!:scared1: We asked him if he was sure and he said yes. He rode with Chad the second time.

Photo0707FourBySix-1.jpg

Photo0708FourBySix-1.jpg

After the second ride Anthony said, "I am NEVER riding that again." We said okay but that we were glad he tried it.

Photo0710FourBySix-1.jpg

After our two tours on Expedition Everest we headed over to the Finding Nemo show. We had never seen this show before and my mom really wanted to watch it. Unfortunately, Tessa was NOT having it which surprised me because she likes Nemo. Chad volunteered to take her out because he wanted a drink and didn't care about seeing the show that much. We were sure that she was just tired and needed a nap.

Anthony ready to find Nemo.
meganspics965-1.jpg

I really enjoyed the show but I didn't realize it would be that long. It is really well done and I have to admit I was tearing up at the end because Anthony is starting kindergarten in the fall and I am going to have to let him into the "big blue world." I know how you feel, Marlin.:sad2:

After Nemo we found Chad waiting outside with Tessa sound asleep. The only other must do I had for the day was meeting Russell and Dug from UP. I love that movie and it's another one that makes me cry every time. On the way to find them I found the cart that sells these...
meganspics967-1.jpg

Jalapeno Cheese Stuffed Pretzel

This was awesome!:worship: I have a new favorite snack and will be getting one every time I'm at AK. The cheese inside is gooey and delicious and there is a little kick of heat but nothing real spicy. Just enough to taste it. Sooo good and at $4.29 a great use of a snack credit.:thumbsup2

While I was getting my pretzel my sister and her family got in line for Russell and Dug. When we met up with them they were at the front of the line and there was about a 15 minute wait behind them. I really wanted to meet the characters too but I didn't want to make my parents wait because I knew they were probably tired and hot. So I just let Anthony get in line with his cousins. I really wish now though that I would have just got in line because I thought I read they were leaving AK?

Photo0722FourBySix.jpg

After meeting Russell and Dug I had done everything I had planned on trying to do. Anthony said he wanted to ride Dinosaur so we decided to head over there and then leave. My parents decided to sit this one out and my sister, the kids minus Tessa and and I got on the ride. When we went to get our picture put on our PhotoPass they couldn't find it! They said either it didn't come out or someone was doing something inappropriate in it. Well since we had seen it briefly on the display screen we know that it did come out so the people behind us must have been doing something inappropriate. Why do people do that? I guess they think that's funny? I don't know but I was mad because I'm sure the picture was hilarious because we all scared of that ride.:lmao: We called Chad and asked where they were and he kept saying the store right after you exit the ride. Well that store is extremely small and we couldn't find them. Turns out he meant the big store by the carnvial area. Ok:rolleyes1 When we finally found them Anthony kept saying he wanted to ride it again. So Chad and my sister took the boys while I waited with my parents, Tessa and my niece.

meganspics969-1.jpg

meganspics972-1.jpg

When I walked out of the store I found my dad sitting with Anthony! Chad said that Anthony got in line then decided the ride was too scary. So we waited on my sister and nephews to get done.
meganspics979-1.jpg

Once we met up with my sister we told her we were leaving. Her family was staying later while we went out to dinner. So we said goodbye to AK until next time!
Photo0760FourBySix.jpg

Photo0758FourBySix.jpg

meganspics982-1-1.jpg

Now this was the only day I really felt pressured by traveling with family. The whole day I was kind of worried about my parents not having fun or being too hot. Also my mom was having problems keeping up because AK is so spread out. There were other things I would have liked to do such as the Maharajah Jungle Trek and I would probably would have let Tessa do the Safari and Train again but I didn't want to drag my parents around. My sister and I are both of the mindset of doing what our family wants and if we meet up fine if not that's fine too, which I'm sure is what was happening with the Safari that morning. But I think we were both trying to stick together for my mom. I wish we could have done more but it was more important to me to spend the day with my parents and sister then see everything. I know we will be back to AK but who knows when my parents will be back to Disney or when my sister and I will be there at the same time. So were there times of frustration? Yes and I'm sure my sister had moments where she was frustrated and changed her plans. Overall though it was a fantastic time and I would definitely do it again.:thumbsup2

Dinner at Margaritaville

UGH! I would have been so aggravated with them continuing ride EE! :headache: I think that's just inconsiderate, especially since it was Anthony's bday trip.

I'm glad they ended up joining y'all at the safari. Love all of your pics! Reid & I love the baby elephant. He calls him Dumbo.

I can't wait to hear if Anthony rode EE! popcorn::

I think it was a miscommunication. My sister and I are both of the mindset that we do our own thing and if we meet up great, if not that's fine too. I'm sure she thought we should just go ahead but my mom wanted to wait.

Aww of couse the elephant should be called Dumbo! Adorable!

The safari looked great. And I so want to take that train ride - I couldn't get Willow to do it last year. :confused3

It can be a challenge but overall it was great. I mean this day had the most frustration and it wasn't bad so we did well. I enjoyed having my family along this time. I hope my sister felt the same!

Aww Tessa loves the train! I hope you can get Willow on it one day!

Go Anthony riding EE twice!!! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: Even if he didn't like it, he was brave trying it twice. And he tried Dinosaur! I don't blame him for not riding it the second time. :rotfl:

I haven't seen the Finding Nemo show either. I've heard how long it is & to be quite frank, I don't know that anyone in my little family would want to sit through that long of a show. Myself included. Maybe one day we'll see it. When you were talking about letting Anthony into the "big blue world", I teared up too. That will be me next year so I can already sympathize with you.

Even if you didn't get to do everything you wanted, it does sound like y'all had a nice day overall with your family. :goodvibes

I couldn't believe Anthony rode twice! I think he did it because his cousins were going again. They were so sweet when he said never again. They were telling him he was really brave. Dinosaur is scary! That's why I was so mad about our picture not coming out. I'm sure my sister and I were making better faces than the kids.:rotfl2:

I had no idea Nemo was that long until we were already in the theatre. (Of course it's on the times guide, but I am the woman who put everyone on the train thinking it stopped in Asia:rotfl2:) It's really good but not something I need to see every trip. I love Finding Nemo though but for some reason Chad doesn't like it.

I have really been suppressing my feelings about Anthony going to kindergarten. We left for Disney the day after his pre-school graduation so I was distracted and we don't start school here until after Labor Day so I have another month. I will be a wreck though when the time comes!

I enjoyed having my family along. We really all got along and honestly I think I was the biggest diva of the group:rolleyes1 Did we get everything done that we would have without them? No but we made different memories that are probably even more special.

Hey Megan! Great update. Poor Anthony on EE - TWICE! The pictures are priceless.

Gosh, it is so hard to travel with other family members because you spend so much time worrying about whether they are happy. Still, how nice that your folks enjoyed spending time with y'all at AK.

After leaving Animal Kingdom we picked up my brother and headed over to Universal's City Walk.

meganspics1004-1.jpg

Islands of Adventure

We would be eating here...
meganspics1006-1.jpg

The Lone Palm Bar
meganspics1003-1.jpg

This was my dad's request. He eats at the Margaritaville in Myrtle Beach on his yearly golf trips and loves it. He is also a Parrot Head. Tessa loved this place and was dancing the whole time! My dad was so excited, he pulled out all his Jimmy Buffett concert videos for Tessa to watch.:rolleyes1
meganspics997-1.jpg

Some shots of the inside of the restaurant. There is a volcano inside that goes off about every 30-45 minutes.
meganspics987-1.jpg

meganspics988-1.jpg

Our booth was shaped like a boat. Anthony had a lot of fun with the wheel.
meganspics986-1.jpg

I was the only person to get a margarita at Margaritaville. What is up with that?:confused3:rotfl2:
meganspics990-1.jpg

Looking at the menu I can't seem to find the one I got. I really think it was some kind of pomegranate margarita. It was good but not as good as my margarita from La Cava.

We got an order of the Volcano Nachos as our appetizer.
Volcano Nachos - Topped with chili, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, jalapenos, tomato and scallions $10.25
meganspics991-1.jpg

These were really good and a HUGE portion! So huge in fact my mom and I decided to split a sandwich.

Crab Cake Sandwich - Jumbo lump crab cake, pan-seared and served on a toasted bun with lettuce, tomato and a side of mustard-horseradish sauce. $10.95
meganspics993-1.jpg

This was yummy but we were so full from the nachos!

Anthony got the kid's steak that came with green beans and fries.
meganspics994-1.jpg

He loved it. Everyone else ordered the Cheeseburger in Paradise - The Heinz 57 is on the table and don't forget the draft beer......if you're old enough. Topped with American cheese, iceberg lettuce and tomato. $9.75
meganspics992-1.jpg

Everyone enjoyed their food. We decided to get a piece of Key Lime Pie for dessert.
meganspics999-1.jpg

We all had fun but we were so stuffed! We rolled out of the restaurant and were all too full to walk around City Walk. We headed back to CBR to relax. Later that night Anthony said he was hungry and got a kid's cheeseburger meal and some popcorn from Old Port Royale.
meganspics1009-1.jpg

I love the sand pail the kid's meals come in!

We watched some Must Do's and the Duffy bedtime story then went to sleep. We had a busy day the next day including morning EMHs.

Up next: Finally a full day at MK!:cool1: EMH at MK

Oh I know!:rotfl2: poor guy was terrified! O couldn't believe he rode it twice!

I was so worried that my family was bored, hot, tired, mad etc. I really just needed to relax but it's hard when you want everyone to have fun. But it all worked out:thumbsup2

Another great update! I always love to hear about and see pics from That Other Place. We will probably visit it at some point when Willow is old enough to appreciate it. :confused3

That's how I am too. Like I always say - it's no one's fault but my own. I make myself feel like that. No idea why I can't get past it! :confused3

My dad was so excited, he pulled out all his Jimmy Buffett concert videos for Tessa to watch.
This almost made me tear up - it is so sweet. :lovestruc

I'm a big Parrot Head myself & have to eat at Margaritaville anytime we are near one. The food is really good! If I don't get a margarita, then I order the Havanas & Bananas daiquiri. If you like banana tasting stuff, it is wonderful!

I've had the crab cake sandwich before too & love it! Of course, I love crab cakes in general. YUMMY!!! But, my usual is to get a Cheeseburger in Paradise. They are so good & that's probably my favorite Buffet song. It's just so fun to sing. :goodvibes

Sounds like it was a nice evening. I'm glad y'all could go there for your dad.

Yay for Anthony!!! Those pictures are priceless! :lmao:

We've never seen Nemo either. I never want to give up that much park time to watch it. Maybe next time though, now that we've done FOLK.

I'm glad that Anthony got to meet Russel and Dug, we were really excited to meet them too.

Those nachos look awesome! I could go for some right now! We ate ate that Margaritaville on our honeymoon and really enjoyed it! (the one in New Orleans is good too :thumbsup2). How did Tessa like the Buffet videos? Seems like something that you'd want a few beers while watching...:lmao:

Great updates Megan! Can't wait to hear about EMH!

Thanks so much! This was the first time we didn't go to Universal. Chad and Anthony love it but there isn't much for Tessa to do and the extra cost:scared1: I agree on waiting until Willow is older but I'm sure she will love the rides when she's tall enough. I think we are going to stay on-site a couple nights next year though so the boys can get their fix.

I know how you feel. I really shouldn't worry so much about other people. I'm sure if they were unhappy they would have spoke up. I don't know why I can't get past it either!

Tessa definitely has her grandpa wrapped around her finger! It was sweet.

Oh, I love banana! That drink sounds really good. We really liked Margaritaville a lot. I wish there was one nearby!

I love crab cake! I love seafood in general but no one else in my family does. The only time I get it is when we are eating out. I tried Chad's cheeseburger and it was really good. I don't eat a lot of red meat but I could make an exception for that! I like that song too. Anthony sings Volcano all the time now.

We had fun!:goodvibes

I love the Everest pics! I was glad he tried it.

Nemo is good but it is long. I would watch it again but probably not for a while.i like FOTLK better but it's also a lot shorter.:lmao:

Russell and Dug are so cute. I love UP but I can't watch it unless I'm prepared for a good cry.:rotfl2:

The nachos are amazing! I wish I had that plate in front of me right now! I'm glad you had a good experience there too. Tessa liked them! She was dancing & twirling in front of the TV. After a couple songs she loses interest though. Yes, you definitely need a nice adult beverage when you're watching those. Makes you want to be at the beach.:beach:

Thanks so much!

I hope to check in on all of your TRs later. Now I'm off to the grocery store with both kids:scared1:

We were up bright and early Thursday morning because we were headed to EMH at Magic Kingdom! We got to the TTC and hopped on the monorail. The only other time we had ever been on the monorail was when we were running WAY late for a Crystal Palace breakfast reservation. We also didn't know that you could leave the stroller up so we had folded it and were carrying all our stuff. This trip on the monorail went much smoother. In fact, we all loved it especially Tessa. I think we will be using the monorail a lot more from now on!

meganspics1021-1.jpg

meganspics1027-1.jpg

We're here!:cool1:
meganspics1035-1.jpg

We made it in time to catch the Opening Show. I didn't know if they would do this during EMH's or not, but they do!
meganspics1038-1.jpg

meganspics1044-1.jpg

meganspics1046-1.jpg

meganspics1049-1.jpg

What would be our first stop of the day?
meganspics1051-1.jpg

We headed into Fantasyland where our top two priorities were Peter Pan's Flight and Dumbo. When we walked into Fantasyland Chad stopped and said, "Where's Dumbo?" I jut stopped and looked at him. He said, "wasn't it right here?" LOL. I just laughed and told him it had been moved. He was way out of the loop!

Now onto Peter Pan! I love this ride. The classic dark rides are what I think of when I think of Disney World. We all enjoyed our flight and then walked back through Fantasyland. We passed Snow White's Scary Adventures. This was May 31st and the ride's last day. Snow White is my favorite princess and I would have loved to ride this ride but we were on a mission and passed it. Well when we headed back this way the line was SOOOO long. So we didn't ride it. It was okay because I said good bye to the ride last year when I thought I would never ride it again.

meganspics1053-1.jpg

We grabbed FPs for Winnie the Pooh and headed to our next destination...
meganspics1057-1.jpg

Storybook Circus! For some reason I did not get very good pictures over here. We got in line for Dumbo where we had to wait about 15 minutes.

meganspics1061-1.jpg

meganspics1062-1.jpg

meganspics1063-1.jpg

My very poor pictures of Fantasyland Expansion. You can see Eric's castle now though!
meganspics1065-1.jpg

meganspics1066-1-1.jpg

meganspics1067-1.jpg

After Dumbo it was about 10 until 9 and the park was about to officially open. We headed over to get in line for our next priority for the day.

meganspics1071-1.jpg

meganspics1069-1.jpg

Up Next: More Magic Kingdom!

Looks like a good start to the day!

Peter Pan is a favorite of ours also.

I can't wait to see Storybook Circus! From what I've seen, the theming looks really cute!

Can't wait to see where y'all went next!

What a great way to start your day at the Magic Kingdom! We didn't get to ride Snow White's Scary Adventures this trip either. Oh well, like you, I said goodbye to it last year.

Storybook Circus is so cute. When we went the tent wasn't open either so I can't wait to see the area when it's complete!

If you look at Tessa's dress you will know where we went!

When we passed Snow White the line was already long & Chad said, "isn't this ride closed already?" :lmao: So it wasn't a priority.

I can't believe I forgot one of the funniest parts of our trip! I added it back in to the post but it was when we walked into Fantasyland for the first time and Chad stopped and said, "where's Dumbo?" LOL

Great update!

Tessa looks so cute! :lovestruc

And never fear - Snow White lives on at Disneyland. ;)

Can't wait to hear about what you do next. :thumbsup2

Sounds like a great morning so far!

Love Tessa's pretty Brave dress and matching hair bows!

I didn't know that they did the opening show for EMH! That's awesome. We saw it for the first time this trip and it was so cool.

Looks to me like you were in line for a princess... Merida maybe? :goodvibes

In the long run not a big deal but I knew my fellow planners would understand!

Oh I TOTALLY understand! :rotfl: When we went a year ago, we were in the Magic Kingdom early one morning and it just seemed like no one had a fire under their butt. My son was dragging his feet, someone needed to use the bathroom... you get the picture. Anyway, as we were walking through Adventureland, we decided that our family friend and I would run ahead and get fastpasses to Splash while my mom took DS to the bathroom, then they would meet us so we could ride Big Thunder. Well... we waited, and waited and waited... all the while watching the standby time get longer and longer. Finally we decided to go back to Adventureland to see what was up and it somehow my mom and DS had missed seeing DH on the way out of the bathroom so she decided to take DS on POTC without telling anyone! I was annoyed but got over it. Just a miscommunication, like you say :goodvibes

I love this picture! She looks so joyful!
meganspics957-1.jpg

Every time we have ever rode the train we see a rhino.
meganspics958-1.jpg

We just got to see the baby rhino! :goodvibes

Your Animal Kingdom day sounds fun! Good for Anthony for going on Everest. That is one SERIOUS roller coaster! I don't blame him one bit for not wanting to do Dinosaur again. Holy cow, that was terrifying!

We were rained out on our AK day so we didn't get to see Doug & Russell but it looked like a fun interaction. The only other regret I have is not finding one of those cheese pretzels! Yum! Maybe next time :thumbsup2

okay... still getting caught up on the rest :goodvibes
