A few weeks back, I remember a thread that said JTA was now doing sign-ups in the morning, just like WDW. Was this a permanent change, or just a test for a few days? Are they still picking kids out of the audience just like they always have?

I think they said it was a 2 day test run of that system, but I haven't heard anyone confirm from the parks since

Looks like two day trial only a few weeks back. Here is a pic of the sign to look out for at the entrances. Pic is from a reddit post.

It was a test run. The show is closing for a while soon. Perhaps when it reopens with the new character they'll be doing the sign-ups. I actually think it's a good idea as many people have anxiety over the getting picked or not aspect. We've watched the show a few times and it's pretty good. We only took DD to participate once, and she was lucky and was picked. She was barely 4 and had a bit of a time following the directions. The Jedi Master told her to duck, but she didn't. He responded, "Wow, look you didn't need to duck!"

Where did you see that it's closing for a while? I was hoping to have my DS do it on one of our trips this next year.

It was announced as part of the Star Wars stuff that they would be adding another/different villain from the kids' show (probably replacing Maul). I don't know where I saw that it would be going into refurb, that may just be a rumor that goes along with the night bands being given end of run notices. But they are definitely adding a different villain.
