I had bought my son(10) several nice pairs of docker shorts for dinner on the casual nights. I still think this is ok. He will look much nicer in these than jeans.

What do you guys think?? :cool1: :cool1:

My ds who was 8 on last cruise wore dockers, and I thought they looked perfect. They were also a little more thin, and I think comfortable for suppers.

I say :cheer2: :cheer2:

I did not see many kids in shorts for dinner on our recent Magic cruise. Our boys aged 7 and 9 wore khakis and button-down shirts or polos every night except for formal/semi-formal when they wore tuxes. That being said though, it's not tough to get my kids dressed up as they wear a uniform to school and hate the heavy feel of jeans. Dockers/khakis is about as dressed down as they get, unless they're wearing a swimming suit.

Our boys were 6 and 12 when we last cruised and both wore long Docker type pants to dinner each night. It seemed almost all of the pre-teen and teen age boys wore pants while some of the younger kids would wear shorts.

I would try to get him to wear pants at least to a few nights (like Triton's/Lumiere's). If you can't get him to wear Docker type pants, go with shorts over jeans and a nice polo or button down shirt. My older boy loves the button down camp shirts with dragons or flames and bright colors and usually these are fine fine for dinner.

Disney's dress code is a "recommendation" and we saw several adults who did not follow the recommendations including a family that came to dinner every night in t-shirts and shorts.

I agree that I think if it is between jeans & dress shorts, my vote is for the dress shorts. Unfortunantly the dress code is the dining rooms is probably going to drop with the recent change and you will see alot more people wearing shorts...and I'm not talking about the dressy ones. :(

Take a look at my Picture signature...you can see that my son wore nice shorts to dinner with a Disney shirt!!

I've noticed that picture before & thought how nice the kids look. Did all of you have matching outfits?

This was so scary.....
I was ready to come on a start a post about the very same subject. I am in a dilemma. I have the same decision to make, what to have my DS(8 ) wear to dinner. :confused3
I think I have resolved it by getting 2 pairs of nice shorts(the izod type) and 2 pairs of dress docker type pants, for our 4 night cruise. Have him wear those with polo shirts or button down shirts. He is usually only in the dining room long enough to eat then off to the club.

Just to confirm. On the formal & semi-formal night, we have long pants, tie, etc for my son to wear. I just think on the casual nights, I would rather see him in shorts instead of jeans.

Thanks for all the responses.

Kathy

Go with the shorts. Remember you are on a cruise to have fun. And, you will have the time of your life. I have been on two DC and found that many young boys wore polo type shirts and shorts to dinner. Which looked very nice. I say go have fun and don't worry....... :earboy2:

Bethipooh4--

We just did the 4 night Wonder with a DS 8. He wore long khakis--but then again it was a little chilly those nights. I think you'll be fine. When DS was 6 he did wear dress shorts all but one night on the 4 night wonder (all but Tritons), but now we are moving toward longer pants (DS turns 9 this weekend, in time for the Magic next month). But everyone's child is different, and indeed, it is a cruise to the bahamas, and if khaki shorts is your pick it is fine. And I think Disney's own guidance with respect to children under 12 or so is that Mom & Dad know best.

Have a great time.
