Jeanne Update from Orlando
Its 9:44 PM and the wind is howling outside. My windows are making funny noises. It sounds like I am inside the Haunted Mansion. Everything is rattling. Curfew is in effect effecitve 11 PM.

My husband had to go to work at Orlando International Airport (left at 8:30PM) tonight and called me and told me that there were a lot of trees down. Lights are already going out.

I am sitting here at my computer because I am basically scared to smithereens. I don't know how to turn on the generator. My husband showed my 11 yr. old how to do it and hopefully he will and won't blow up the house.

Right now they have tornado warnings and they are saying that it will head straight to Orlando. Right now winds from the outer bands are at 100 mph.

No matter what, we have to tough it out. A lot of the companies here fired a lot of workers for not reporting to work as they stayed home to secure their residences and get their families ready. Florida Hospital fired about 11 nurses. Some Police Departments fired some of their police officers.

The weatherman ( who was been on the money so far with all the other hurricanes) said that we will have a major hit by 3 to 4AM with winds gust over 140 mph with 90 mph in Kissimmee. She is making landfall right now. So lets brace and I will let you know how I make out.

I am a little concerned because we had some water during the last one and the builder was supposed to come out an check it out and fix it, but nothing so far.

Hopefully, we will be okay. I know we are going to lose power, but for how long I don't know. As soon as I get back on I will post what happens.

Take care and good night to everyone. Your prayers are needed now.

you (and the rest of FL are in my thougthts and prayers

keep us popsted as well as you can

stay safe

Do you have the instruction booklet for the generator? I keep our booklet near the generator in the garage. PLEASE be sure to NOT use the generator in a space without ventilation to the outside. We open our garage door & place the generator there with the exhaust facing outside. Do not use it inside the house.

I know this is scary. Hang in there. You have experience with hurricanes - you lived through Charley & Frances. In a few days you will add another one to your list!

My family is visiting Disney this Wednesday, so we have been watching the hurricanes very closely. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family - and everyone in the path of Jeanne. All I can say is that I hope everything passes swiftly with the least amount of damage possible, and that you will stay safe. It must be horrible to be separated from your husband at this time.

I hope you are doing well. I know it must be scarey being by yourself. My prayers are with you...............Gail

Lights have been flickering, but for the most part they have remained on, luckily for us.

The winds are still about 75-85 mph. The howling is now annoying and I am sitting here watching the fences swaying in the wind. Hopefully, we will be able to assess whatever damages have occurred.

Hubby is still at work and called me to tell me that he won't be coming home until sometime tomorrow. He related that Orlando International Airport was flooded, heavy damage. The American Airlines Terminal Side roof had collapsed. He will let me know as soon as they tell them when the airport will reopen.

If my power stays, I will keep you updated.

Hope all went well---?
Just curious--how far in advance were the weathermen "on the money"??
Most of what I've seen, they are maybe about 12 hours or so ahead of these storms--and sometimes not even that.

Stay safe. Hope to hear soon that the weather has passed and you all have made it through safely.

I was in Tampa for Jeanne. They said it was only going to go up the east coast. It ended going right across the state to tampa! I was visiting my grandparents after just getting away from all the worries of Ivan. We lost power for a little bit the house was shaking with 75 mph winds, gusts to 85! I wasnt to scared after just being through Ivan. We made it and I hope everyone else is safe. My flight left TPA on schudule to come home today.
Matt

Our local weather guys were pretty much on the money for about two days and then they were more certain on the last day.

We did okay. Water damage downstairs so now we had to pull all the carpet back and are trying to dry up everything. I have a leak in my son's bedroom and into the garage.

We shall see. Time will tell and hopefully this will be the end of them all for this season.
