Jean Shepherd (of a Christmas Story fame) is the dad on Carousel of Progress

You learn something new every day, I suppose. The following link is to an article on boingboing.net that chronicles a facet of Jean Shepherd's life that I was heretofore unaware of. It includes a link to a comedic sketch that he did after touring the Carousel of Progress at the 1964 New Your World's Fair. It is ironic that, years later, Mr. Shepherd would provide the new voice for the dad in Carousel of Progress. You may also recognize his voice as the narrator of A Christmas Story. Not only the narrator, but also the author.

I'm reading a book about the history of Disneyland records, and I just found out that the group that sang the theme song to Gilligan's Island also sang the theme for Disney's Wonderful World of Color. They were called The Wellingtons, and they also appeared on a GI episode as a rock band called The Mosquitoes.

Another little tidbit about A Christmas Story. Ralphie (all grown up now) is an elf in the movie Elf. He is the one in the red with Will Ferrell. Neat huh?
