Jaycee Lee Dugard on the upcoming cover of People mag

Me, too. I don't usually buy People, but I will for this issue.

Looking at her sweet, smiling face, you'd never imagine the horrors she went through...

Agreed. I cannot comprehend how she made it through that ordeal, let alone raised two children.

A little OT, but she looks like a young Jodi Foster :thumbsup2

She does look like Jodi Foster!:thumbsup2
I can't imagine how frightening her life must have been. Having a bay at 14 and having to raise her in a shed?!

So happy to see her looking so good. Her story must be amazing. I can't imagine the joy that she and her family must be living in right now.

I can't believe she's already on the cover of People and telling her story to the world. Seems to soon to me, but whatever helps her healing.......

I was thinking the same thing, but after living like that for all those years, she probably has a need to "get it all out" of her. Talking to People mag may make her feel "normal" again.

Before we all jump to inane conclusions and get all judgy-mcjudgerson on this poor girl (typical DIS ) she DID NOT give an interview. She was only photographed.

I think her spokespeople explained that one reason for choosing to be on the cover is she'll soon be participating in the trial and exposed to photogs/the press, so if they can get a head start on showing her to the public on her terms, it won't be quite so hard for her.

She looks great, and I'm sure she's happy, but does anyone else think she might have conflicting feelings of happiness and sadness? I mean it would be normal for her to have developed some feelings of attachment toward her kidnapper...she was with them longer than she was with her mother. And her daughters...that's the only life they knew, so to them it was normal.

I know to us and to her mother, it's all happy, but I think she might be struggling a little? Like Stockholm Syndrome?

No doubt she's struggling. I guess her family is still in a state of extreme joy, but once the trial starts, I think she's going to need some heavy-duty counseling. Poor thing, she'll need to re-live all the aspects of her time in captivity. I can't even imagine the hell this girl endured, having that animal rape her at 14 years old. She was still a baby herself :(

And her two daughters. Garrido is the only "father" (I hate to use that word in the same sentence as his name) they've ever known, so I am sure they are struggling just as much.

Well, she had her first baby at 14. No doubt the sexual abuse started much younger. She is going to need lots of therapy (as well as her daughters), but this girl has shown that she is a fighter. :thumbsup2

True, that's what I meant. Thanks.

That poor woman, I cannot imagine the hel she went through. I've wondered is she might feel conflicted- Stockholm Syndrome. Jaycee lived with Mr. and Mrs. Monster for a longer amount of time than she lived with her biological family.

I am surprised at how young she looks. She looks younger than most 29 yo's walking around in my opinion and I find that amazing considering the horrors she has been through.

I expected her to look "harder" and haggard, yet she looks quite the opposite. She is a beautiful and looks like she is a college co-ed instead of 29!

God Bless Her!!

Her youthful appearance is probably because she has led such a sheltered life -- not out being exposed the sun at the beach or even outside in the park on a sunny day.

I think that Jaycee's children will have an even harder time than Jaycee will. This is the only life that they have ever known. The person that know as their father is a sexual preditor (sp). They didn't even know who their real mother was. Their whole lives are lies. At least Jaycee was in the outside world from birth to age 11.

I just hope that life is good to her for the rest of her life.

I saw on the Today show this morning that they have tested her intelligence and she is pretty much where she should be for her age. Amazing.
Also, People did not do a photo shoot. The family arranged for someone (maybe a friend) to take a picture of her to release to People. This way the curiosity factor is subdued for the public when the trial resumes.
She looks amazing, btw.

You're right.. she does look young and fresh. Amazing.
