So, I've decided that my disney dollars are going to go torward getting a pearl ring to go with the pearl set I won on DCL in 2004...
So, what is everyones strategy...
-for getting a big pearl?
-for getting colored ones?

What kind of ring settings do they have? I'm hoping for something that I can wear every day...in sterling silver. photos?

Any insight is greatly appreciated!
Thanks

On my last trip, I went with the biggest, ugliest, hairyest looking one there. I really really want a black pearl, but I got a good sized white one. It was 7.6 and I got the gong thingy and all that jazz. I am wearing it on my necklace as I type ;)

I don't know about in Japan, but outside the Beach Club at the picka pearl kiosk, my DD9 got a black one a week and a half ago. Her strategy was to pick the one that these other people put back. She's always been one for the outcasts :teeth: oysters included ...I guess.

My DS picked a pearl a couple of weeks ago in Japan and it was a silver one. We could not understand a single thing the girl said while she was opening and cleaning it :guilty: but afterwards she did ring the gong! :)

We have not done this at WDW, but DD has 8 pearls (from 6 oysters) from Sea World. She has gotten two sets of "twins" - one of those sets being blue pearls. She always picks the UGLIEST pearl the divers bring up...... by the time she is 16 I hope I have enough to make some sort of necklace for her - we don't get them set at this point. We have gotten all 7+mm pearls, in various colors - blue, gray, peachy and white....We are going today with my mother and great nephew, and I am tempted to let her get another one - but she has not been on her best behavior.... so it might have to wait until another visit. I love the suspense of what is in the oyster -

ugly ones
outcasts-the ones people throw back...
I would love a silver one!!! but its the luck of the draw...

I'm going to pick one and if I pick twins I'll make earrings...then pick another one for a ring...

If I only get one pearl I'm going to get a ring...but I know what kind of setting I want...

Does anyone have any pictures?

How much is it to pick a pearl? Anyone remember round about how much a ring setting was? Now Im trying to decide if I get Christmas Ornaments like I normally do or a pearl ring..

I did pick a pearl in Japan in June.

Here is what I did:
I picked one that wasn't the best shape,
meaning it was kind of odd shaped compared to
the rest. It was vary hairy and the hair was all differnet
colors and really long.

I got a beautiful, 7mm white pearl!

Good luck!

I'm going to do the pearl thing when I go. I'm really excited about it! I'm hoping to get one made into a ring. I don't think its too expensive, there was a really long thread on here about it before.

any pictures? anyone out there get rings...
How BIG can a pearl be in a ring setting before it looks guady (sp?)
I dont want to get a HUGE pearl in a ring setting...I'd like a good size one tho (I know I know-its like diamonds big diamonds are great...but how big is too big???)

I haven't picked a pearl in quite some time but about 8 years ago I had my son just pick one out and got a beautiful silver pearl. I had it placed in a holder so I could wear it as a necklace but waited until we got home to buy the chain since they were so expensive there. I wear it faithfully every day to this day.

We got a nice, big silver one this March. The one we chose stood out in some way, I think it was flatter and of a different color that most of the rest, but it's probably all a crap-shoot. The gal who opened it said that only 10% or fewer were silver.

In October I got a rare Peacock pearl at the kiosk at Blizzard Beach. The girl there said the strategy was to find the ugliest one you can in the pile... not a very big one either. They seem to produce the good size rare colored pearls.

On the bottom floor of Teppanyiki restaurant. It is on the left hand side of the door when you walk in. You can't miss all the people looking for the right pearl

You could probably buy a lot of ornaments! We got a pearl set in a ring in May for a total of $207 (including the initial cost of the pearl). Now, that was a pretty nice setting, with 2 small diamonds and it's 14K gold. But it was our anniversary, and 25 years ago I didn't get an engagement ring (my choice) so this was my belated engagement ring. They had lots of other settings without diamonds, probably lots less money. I'm going to try to bug DH tonight for a picture I can post.
