January Dining Review and Pictures - Update 12/8 Sunshine and Liberty Tree

Tusker House sounds really great. We are thinking of that as our breakfast in December since we will be just around the corner at AKV. Thank you for this review! :thumbsup2

Thanks so much for the DSB review. Banana bread pudding and sweet potatoes for breakfast sounds like heaven. We will be trying this for the first time our next trip. Can't wait!

Enjoying your report Magdalene! Thanks! :wizard:

Thanks for the nice comment!!

Tusker House was wonderful! I even liked it a bit better than Boma. I am thinking about doing morning EMH at AK this time (you will probably thinking I am crazy doing RD at 8 am! :lmao:) and then have a late breakfast there...:scratchin But then I think I really would like to try lunch or dinner there, too.

Thanks for reading! I think Tusker House is really one of the best quality meals you can get. It was a wonderful buffet! Hope you enjoy it! :thumbsup2

After our fantastic and huge breakfast we did not fell like eating lunch, but wanted a snack. So we ended up getting the Fruit Plate - seasonal sliced fruit plate served with honey yogurt from Flame Tree Barbecue to share:

It was nice fresh fruit, just what we wanted at that time!

Flame Tree Barbecue is really a beautiful restaurant. If you travel in the winter like we did, outdoor seating is actually a great plus! I took some pictures, just because I like it so much:

In the afternoon we decided that we needed another break and we got something sweet from the Kusafiri Coffee Shop which is next to the Tusker House Restaurant. C wanted to get an espresso, too, while I wanted to check out the Dawa Bar. So I let C choose a pastry and we got a cinnamon roll:

The cinnamon roll was very good, and it was big enough to share between the two of us!

Dawa Bar actually looked very cool:

I settled on a “Lost on Safari” which was rum and fruit. It was quite nice and fortunately not too heavy on the alcohol.

Better than BOMA??? :scared1: I won't tell the folks on the Jambo thread. ;)

Wow though! Tusker House is now my #1 choice for December! Thank you!

And ya...RD at 8 am...we'll see if I can do it at 9 am!

This is the only restaurant we have eaten at for every single trip. On our first trip we had dinner there and fell in love with AKL. That's the reason we ended up staying there for the following two trips. Returning there for this meal was a bit bittersweet because we were only visiting. It was sooooo beautiful!!

Our ADR was for 6:30 pm. We actually had to wait for quite some time. I don't remember the exact time, but I think it was about 20 minutes or even longer. After we were finally seated we decided to get a nice drink! I had some red wine which was lovely and C had the Blue Glowtini.

DSC04859.jpg

I had seen so many pictures of that on the DIS and always thought that it does not sound like a drink for me – and it wasn't! C let me try a bit and it was way too sweet for my taste! But C loved it, so it was a good choice.

Since this was our fourth dinner at Boma, we kind of knew our favourites. I started my meal with the butternut squash soup which is so wonderful:

DSC04851.jpg

I had some of the crispy bread to dip in the soup and that was excellent!

Then I had a plate with salad and appetizers:

DSC04855.jpg

There is a lentil salad, an avocado and grapefruit salad, more crispy bread with different types of hummus, some green salad, something with carrots and raisins and a cole slaw. Everything was delicious, I liked the different salads as they all had a distinct taste that was a bit unusual. Also the hummus was very good!

I think I might have seconds from soup and salad as my plate with entrees is rather empty:

DSC04861.jpg

I had some of the new beef that they now have instead of prime rib. I really liked it a lot, actually better than prime rib. Prime rib is too fatty for my taste and this was leaner without being dry. I had different sauces with it especially the mustard sauce is fantastic. I also had a bit of rice and couscous.

Deserts at Boma for me are always the weak point. I don't like Zebra Domes. But they are pretty, so here is a picture of them:

DSC04862.jpg

Boma was once again a wonderful meal and a great experience. It is on the must do list for my next trip!!

Oh, please don't tell. I am already in trouble over there for not liking zebra domes!! :rotfl:

I am enjoying your reviews. Thank you for taking the time with them.

The fruit plate in AK looks GREAT. I may have to swing by there just for that.

We are having Breakfast at Boma so I won't get a shot to try the soup but it sure looks yummy.

Thanks for making Tusker House look extra great...I somewhat-patiently have checked for a breakfast ADR over the past couple of days, and I finally got one! :)

Joining in, it all looks so good! :goodvibes

Congratulations on the Tusker House ADR! Isn't it great to be able to hunt those ADRs online? :)

This morning we had planned to do rope drop at DHS and it just did not work out as we had planned... No need to get into details, there were buses involved and tour groups and unexpected crowds due to the stupid Fantasmic schedule...

Well, we ended up having breakfast at Starring Rolls Cafe which is just at the center of DHS where Sunset Boulevard starts. While I was hunting for TSM fastpasses (who ever came uup with this stupid set-up in Pixar Place???) and met a wonderful lady who just had bought DVC points at BLT the day before (I was thinking that she must be on the DIS, but did not have the courage to ask her...), C got some food. She picked a smoked salmon bagel and a cinnamon roll and gave me the option of either sharing both things with her or getting the cinnamon roll for myself. I love cinnamon rolls (C knew that, so this was a safe pick!), so I wanted the whole thing. C had already started to eat half the bagel, so here you can see what half a salmon bagel looks like:

DSC04869.jpg

It was a very generous portion (and in hindsight I now understand her attitude towards lunch much better!).

My cinnamon roll had a lot of icing!! And it was much smaller than the one at AK the day before, but it was still good. Actually I am really glad that these things are different in different locations. They don't have one big food factory on property where they produce everything. In DLRP food is very standardized and you get the same thing everywhere, very boring!!

DSC04871.jpg

This was a very nice breakfast spot! I am not so sure about that breakfast in the park thing as it eats up valuable touring time, but it would be a great spot for a break in the afternoon or even for lunch, I recently saw pictures of their sandwiches: very interesting!

Oh, please don't tell. I am already in trouble over there for not liking zebra domes!! :rotfl:

:lmao: Your secret is safe! :goodvibes

For some reason I missed the Flametree and snack update-that cinnamon roll looked amazing! And I agree-I really like how the food at WDW is not standardized, even a simple thing like a cheeseburger can taste differently from place to place.

Oh, and that fun DHS day...so many tour groups. :headache:

great reviews

Thanks!

Great food pic's. Thanks so much for sharing. :)

Thanks for the nice comment on my pictures!

The cinnamon roll was really good at Kusafiri! I love cinnamon rolls and we don't have them here in Germany (actually Starbucks sells them, but those are not very good), so I eat lots of them in WDW! :lmao:

That day was just not a good day for us... I still wish I had not been so tired out from the crowds by the time we met, we really should have just done something different than ToT... :confused3 I hope one day we will get a chance for another DISmeet! :goodvibes

Thanks for posting staring rolls cinnamon roll...it looks yummy. Enjoying your food review.

Welcome! The starring rolls cinnamon roll was yummy! I actually never had a bad cinnamon roll in WDW so far!

C and I had eaten the two years before at the Prime Time Cafe. I really wanted to like that place a lot, but somehow I was always disappointed a bit by our experience. Both times we felt rushed and were not really engaged in any fun activities. But we fell in love with the peanut butter and jelly milk shake. So we decided to return and just get the milk shake!! Of course the best place to that is the lounge they have there: Tune-In Lounge:

This is our lovely milk shake (my half of it):

DSC04876.jpg

C and I actually shared one milk shake between the two of us and it was just the right size for us as a nice little treat!

While we were sitting there, a number of people came in to order milk shakes to go. I never knew that this would have been an option! Actually it was very nice to escape the very crowded park!

In case you ever wanted to know how to make on of those, here is a video:

Sorry for taking so long to post updates, but here are two small ones and the next one after those will be something really interesting: California Grill!

We left DHS and the crowds behind us and walked to Epcot via the Boardwalk. That was actually a very nice walk, but a bit sunny! Arriving at Epcot, I wanted a lunch, but C had developed a headache and did not feel like eating. So I decided to return to Tangierine, my new favourite counter service!

I decided to for a smaller meal and chose the lamb wrap served with couscous and lentil salad:

DSC04889.jpg

The lentil salad was a bit bland, but ok. I think C liked it a lot and was happy to eat it:

DSC04890.jpg

The couscous was very nice, there were raisins and nuts in it:

DSC04891.jpg

The lamb was the same as two days earlier and equally delicious. It was served on a flat bread with lettuce, tomatoes, onions (which I picked out, next time I will order it without onions!) and the same yogurt sauce we had before:

DSC04892.jpg

All in all a very good meal again! And it was very filling!! I think I finished it because it was so good, but felt very full afterwards.
