So. We have this week booked already, tix and park reservations in place, ready to make ADRs (but that's a ways off...)
I was prepared for the after NY problem, but never thought aboout the Marathon, until today's announcement.
Are we insane? Will the crowds be insanely high?

Prepandemic, Marathon didn't really affect park attendance very much. How it will be in January 2022 is anyone's guess; my guess is that it won't cause insanely high crowds or affect your trip adversely since you already have everything booked.

Thank you, I appreciate you putting my worries at ease. :)

It’s harder to predict crowd patterns now but I can’t see January 3-6 deviating far from the norm. Those weekdays likely to be average crowds. Nothing crazy. And Christmas decorations usually stay up the first week of January as a bonus 😊

The major impact will be Sunday morning, January 9, because the Marathon itself runs through all four parks, and traffic patterns are disrupted. Until the actual route is announced it will be hard to predict where/when the disruptions will be. One of the long-term marathon runners like @FFigawi might be able and willing to add more predictions to this. I've participated in the 5K and have been onsite on the Sunday of the marathon, but it's been too many years for me to remember how it all worked out.

If you're insane...I'm going to crazy town with you. We are there 12/30-1/5.

Interested to see how it all works out. We are locked in because of work and school commitments, so just hoping my plan is solid and everyone gives some grace and we receive some pixie dust.

See you there!

Marathon weekend crowds are likely to be overshadowed by the last of the holiday masses. DHS and Epcot will be slightly disrupted by the marathon itself on Sunday until noon or so, but otherwise, your main crowds at that time will be from people still there for the holidays. Monday the 10th and Tuesday the 11th will be great days to be there.

We’ll be in the same boat, just booked Jan 2-9. That’s the best time for all of us to go, so I guess we’ll go with it!

We too are booked for that week (end) January 1-8. It was the only time we could make it work for the four of us, both of my sons are in college and return on the10th. I’m not going to lie, I am a little scared. Lol

Same here... but.. we've done this trip before. The crowds in the parks weren't too bad or much different. Only thing we REALLY noticed a crunch was the campground was packed that weekend, then totally empty by Sunday afternoon.
