January 10-14 2010!!! 4 nights on the Wonder

Happy New Year Everyone. I'm a little under the weather....I have an infection on my leg and cellulitus in my ear. I'm on antibiotics and ear drops. BUT I'm still going on this trip. I'm not contageous so I'm safe. I'll just take my meds and take it easy onboard. This was going to be a very leisurely trip for us.....not many activities planned. So it's all good.

Since I can't go in the water with my leg, we switched our Atlantis excursion to a wine and cheese pairing at a hotel in Nassau. That day is DH's birthday so we wanted to do something special. Our first date was a wine tasting so this should be a lot of fun.

I'm so sorry about your leg and ear! Hopefully it will all be feeling better soon!

Thanks....I still have a week so it hopefully will be a little better by then. I'm not taking any chances though, so I'm won't be going in any pools or water. I'm just happy to be going.

I will be wearing a tux, and my DW will be dressing to match. Gotta use the tux when I can LOL

Interesting to know that folks will be wearing tuxes on this cruise. This is our first short cruise, and first cruise on the Wonder, though we've done 3 7nt cruises. I told my husband that he didn't need to worry about a tux for this cruise since there isn't a formal night, and I've heard that folks tend more toward the casual dress even on "Dress-up Night". That said, one thing we really liked about the Golden Mickeys is that it is held on Formal Night on the 7nt cruises, which is always a great chance to get a nice picture taken on the "red carpet" with Mickey.

My husband and son both have tuxes that they just wore on our Dec 12th cruise, but I don't know that we'll be bringing them along on this cruise. But I'll let them know that there are others planning on dressing up!

Speaking of the Golden Mickeys, I'm curious if they will have altered it since we saw it in December. There is quite a bit of dialogue with Roy Disney Jr. in that show (for those who haven't seen it) and he passed away while we were on our Dec 12th cruise. I'd noticed that the flags on Castaway Cay were at half staff when we were there at the end of our cruise, but didn't make the connection to Roy Disney Jr's passing until after we were off the island.

Is anyone doing anything for Pirate night? We have costumes for the kids, but so far nothing for ourselves. We really didn't have the money to put in to it around the holidays.
My kids dressed up for pirate night on our December cruise. DH and I didn't dress up too much, though we did have some extra tattoos from our fish extender gifts that we wore.

We are almost done the FE gifts, they aren't overly creative, but I think they will be enjoyed none the less.
Our December cruise was the first time we'd done fish extender gifts, and it was absolutely amazing what things we received. And little or no duplications which was even more incredible! I believe it's the thought that counts, and I'm sure they will be greatly appreciated as much for the thought as for the items themselves!

We told our girls christmas morning... We had decorated a poster board with pics of the ship, dolphins, and our disney hotel stuff, so they picked up on it right away and pretty excited. We got the stuffed mickey sailor from macys and had him "holding" the poster, and put around it some of the new disney tshirts we got them as well as their new swimsuits and cover ups. My 4 yr old asked "How long?" and when I said 2 weeks, she was thinking it was so long to wait... Main reason why we didn't tell them months ago, lol.
Awesome! We told our kids on Christmas that they are going to WDW on Jan 6th. They still don't know about the cruise!! Since we'll be driving to the port from the hotel and not taking transportation, we may not have to tell them. But we've generally made custom shirts for our cruises, and since my son can read it may be hard to keep it a secret from him depending on what I put on the shirts! But we'll see how long we can keep the secret alive!

I am really hoping the weather will be decent and warm enough to dock / swim at CC... It was freezing today!!
It was cold on Dec 18th, but not unbearably so. The morning was warmer and sunnier than our Dec cruise last year. But we did get chased off of CC and back to our rooms early by the storm that became the east coast blizzard! I have no idea what January will be like, but it's a beautiful island even if you don't spend much time in the water. We all just have to think positive thoughts that day to counteract Natale's history of not making it to CC!

My Castaway Club membership turns to gold this trip!!

Barbara
Chris
Michael (DS turning 6 on this trip)

Headed to the Swan/Dolphin after the cruise for more fun and a pirate cruise on the 16th to celebrate Michael's birthday in true Disney style!

Michael and Chris will have to hook up, since Chris turns 6 on the last day of this cruise! And it looks like we'll be on the same hallway as you since we're in 7514 so we may run into you some in the hallway! Except for the fact that Chris doesn't know about this cruise yet (and hopefully may not know until the day of the cruise) I'd say that the two should connect before hand.

Weather forecast is COLD (for there!) As its 7 here in Chicago right now, I know 60s would feel great, but that's not Mickey Pool weather!

Hello all,

We're joining the party VERY late but my family and I are on this cruise. I just discovered this forum. We have a 12 year old son and a 6 year old daughter. This is our first cruise and we are extremely excited! Our room is on Deck 6.

We'll be at Disney World on Saturday before the sailing. We live in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Best wishes to everyone for a fantastic adventure!

Another one super late to the party... I will be there with my best friend! It will be her first cruise, and my second cruise, but my first Disney cruise. We're sooo excited! After the cruise we're headed to WDW (Bay Lake Towers) for 4 more nights... also never been to WDW. We're hardcore DL-ers, but since we're on the West coast haven't made it over here before! Looks like most of you all are families with kids, but we plan on acting like kids the whole time! :) We're both in our early 20s.

So already I learned two things - there's a pirate night and a formal night, huh? Hmmmm.... not sure I can still fit in my pirate costume from a few years ago, lol!!

Welcome to our newbies!

So, in light of the not so warm weather that is facing us, how is everyone packing? Will this change your packing strategy?

I had already decided that the girls and I don't need any shorts... we can make do with Capri's... not much difference and they will be a little warmer... Should I pack mostly jeans? I made sure we each have a few plains white long sleeve t's that we can throw on under our tshirts as well as several sweatshirts a piece... But I am kind of at a loss. I am a chronic over packer...

At least since we are driving, I can pack as much as I want to tote around... I was thinking of trying to make a few "sets" of luggage...

One for our overnight at the Radisson... then a set for the cruise itself, then a separate set for our 3 days at disney...

Welcome aboard! Yes, there are lots of families with kids on this cruise in general, since it was one of the Kids Sail Free cruises!

Just to keep you from worrying, there is not a formal night on this cruise. Those are only on cruises of 7 nights or longer. There is a "dress-up" night if you want to dress up, but it is not a true formal night.

I am pondering what to pack too. I haven't started or anything, and I don't mind waiting on packing clothes last minute, when I see a more updated forecast. I'll probably go more pants/less shorts and adding a couple more long sleeve t-shirts in there. I do laundry during the cruise, so I don't need to pack too much, I can reuse.

The weather thing is kinda bumming me out. I love the pool at the Hyatt and that looks like a no-go for sure. And my little one is now potty trained so can do the mickey pool and so we're hoping its warm enough to do it. Plus CC of course. Didn't have any plans at Nassau that are temperature dependent.

FISH EXTENDER FINAL

I just canceled our Palo dinner reservation for Tuesday if anyone is looking for a reservation and didn't get one. I have no idea if they'd open up my reservation, but never hurts to ask. Our reservation was for 2 at 7pm on Tuesday (Castaway Cay) night.

I also canceled our Blackbeard Stingray and Beach excursion for Nassau for the 4 of us if anyone was looking for that. It seems like it may be too cold to really enjoy the beach, so we're going to save our money for now, and if for some reason the weather greatly improves between now and them, we may look at booking something while we're onboard. Or we'll just enjoy the heated pools on the ship. On our Dec cruise, the water was so heated in the pools it was almost uncomfortable. Or at least disturbing for someone who isn't used to warm pool water!

ONLY 4 MORE DAYS LEFT UNTIL WE LEAVE FOR THIS TRIP. WOOHOO!!!

We take off on Friday. DH did all his laundry yesterday. Looking at all the tropical shirts.....I knew we were gearing up for vacation mode. My laundry has been done and is already packed. I can pull out some bathing suits and cover ups because I won't need them all now.....make the suitcase a little lighter. I have to double check the bathroom bag and make sure it's fully stocked and get my last minute bag together. I'm so ready to get on that plane.

Kimber123...

What room are you staying in? Maybe some of us who have extra FE gifts might surprise you?

That is so awesome! Oh I hope we run into each other. We have late dining and don't expect to have DS joining us for dinner, but I''m going to try on Pireate night to have him with us so we can all wear our outfits and do his celebration cake that night in the dining room. His official birthday is the 16th. We are headed to WDW for that as soon as we dock. For the last few years he has gone on a Pirate Cruise from one of the Disney resorts on his birthday with this one being no exception.

Right now I'm just dealing with the packing issues!! I've never had to overpack the way I am right now and it's killing me!!

It's more of a running joke with my family now. I would love to go to CC! And I REALLY excited to go on a four day cruise and even more excited that my parents are going on their first cruise! :woohoo:
It's going to be a good time even if we stay on the boat for the entire cruise. I LOVE DCL!

Oh you are so right!! On our last 3 day we never left the ship. I'm hoping for a good day at CC. We have parasailing scheduled early then plan to explore the island on bicycles for the rest of the day if I can pull my son from the ocean. HAHA
Last year I couldn't get past my chest in the water because it was too cold for me, but I put my son in a rash guard suit and he played till his lips turned blue! This year his rash guard is full sleved and half necked so he'll be a happy camper.

Mike and I are counting down the days now --- the front room is all cluttered with our cruise necessities!!! Being first time cruisers I am sure that we will be over packing --- but you have to be prepared --- right??? :goodvibes

I finished Dexter's and Syklar's costumes just this morning - can't wait to see them in them!!!

Travel safe everyone!!! See you on the cruise!!!

Whew, I'm kinda starting to freak out here! I am usually such as planner/researcher and I so wasn't able to do this with this trip... and it's our first WDW/DCL vacation, ahhh!! It's just too overwhelming!

We're trying to be relatively thrifty, so no real excursions for us, but I did look at excursions for Nassau today. I think we're going to do the Discover Atlantis thing... we would like to get off the ship, but since we're just two girls in our early 20s we're a little leery... so we figure a tour thing to Atlantis should be okay, lol. Anyone have any experience there? It sounds good!

So close now!
