I was just thinking about this the other day when I saw her in a magazine working out with her trainer trying to get back into shape because she has a new album coming out in a few months - do you ever think she'll come back and be popular after the whole Superbowl incident?

Quite honestly, i've never been a huge fan of her music - but it seems for some reason she's going to have this stigma with her and it's not going to drop like some things other celebrities have been involved in.

Any thoughts?

Does anyone really care about the Super Bowl incident? I think it was WAY over hyped and certainly will not be her demise.

I love Janet Jackson. I just heard on the radio she has lost 45 pounds. Good for her! I am interested to hear her new album.

She may not ever be as popular as she was before. I think the biggest reason is not that the incident happened in the first place - we all make stupid mistakes - but that she wouldn't just admit she made a stupid mistake and blamed it on a "wardrobe malfunction." How ridiculous.

I, too, never thought her music was all that great. Michael was able to get away with some outrageous behavior for the longest time because he's an unbelievable musical talent (well, he used to be). But Janet does not have anywhere near the same level of talent, and it will be harder for her to regain public acceptance because of this simple fact. I know that's a cynical view of human nature, but I also believe it to be accurate.

Seems to me that she wasn't that popular when the incident happened. I think she'd already went through her fame. She might have another record or 2 that hit the charts but you don't see alot of longevity with pop stars. I don't think the wardrobe thing has hurt her. Pop fans don't care about stuff like that.

Her "Nasty" song was one of my favorites in the 80's heck, I still want to hear it if I'm in the mood to dance. She was never a "superstar" in my mind but did put out some good dance tunes. What happened at the Super Bowl was no big deal to me, please ...I see worse things at my kid's high school  and nothing more than a desperate attempt at attention for a woman whose career would never come close to her brother's. Michael's a whack job but I do think he was very talented. So, no...I don't think she can "come back" because (in my opinion) she was never there. :teeth:

I agree. I certainly didn't consider her a superstar at that time. I think her career peaked in the 80s.

Well I agree with everyone here who said she was already past the top of her career at that point, but I know for me, every time I see her, I can't help but think about her pierced breast - weird, I know.

For some reason or another I was really shocked at this event, but I had to laugh at the poster who said they see worse at their child's high school - I know you were kidding, but that's scary!

For better or worse, the whole industry of halftime shows has changed because of that incident.

Janet is somewhat talented. She always had an AMAZING group of musicians behind her, and that certainly gave her material a boost. An extraordinarily talented friend of mine played the guitar solo on one of her biggest hits. :thumbsup2 Her music fit in well with the genres popular in the mid to late '80's.

I think that Janet has a chance to rekindle fame to a similar level, but it's a slim one for many reasons. Most importantly I think that North America has all but written off the entire Jackson family as a freak show.

I also don't know that her particular style of music is quite as possible as what it once was, alhtough slightly altering your "style" to keep pace with current trands isn't that difficult.

But bottom line, she's a Jackson, and that in itself might create a lot of backlash.

I've always thought she was kinda screwy. :smooth:
Then I suppose you'll have to call her, "Miss Jackson." ;)

Rhythm Nation concert tour. Felt hat and silk vest. Four girls, age 13. Louisville, Kentucky. A black panther onstage. 'Nuff said.

"Miss Jackson" will always have a soft spot in my heart!!

I hope she does. Justin Timberlake was just a guilty and it didn't effect
him much(at the time).
i thought it was rotten she took majority of the heat & blame
