Jan 14-21st/2017- Star Wars Eastern cruise for the non Star Wars crowd! COMPLETED!!!

Yay, you did a trippie :cool1:

Wow, what a loooong travel day :crazy2: I am so glad we now have direct flights from YYC because I remember how long the day was getting to MCO when we didn't have that flight! :sad2:

Air Canada sucks the big one!!! o_O I avoid them as much as possible :headache:

Too bad you didn't go to MK, much more magical and so many differences from DL that you would have enjoyed ::yes::

Looking forward to the cruise part now popcorn::

Cute girls princess:princess:

Yay, thanks for following along!!! :flower1:

At breakfast the morning after Epcot Dh and I were talking and both agreed we either should have just gone to MK or not done WDW at all, just gone to Disney Springs or something. Hindsight though, eh? :confused3 Will get the end of Epcot out of the way today so I can then start on the cruise :jumping3:

Reading along too! Have this planned in 2018 so looking forward to your report!

:welcome: and thanks for joining in! Hopefully I can provide some answers if you've got any question re SWDAS. I loved this itinerary!

Ok so when I last left off we were on our way back to World Showcase for the Illuminations Dessert party.

These are the directions taken from the Disney World website on how to locate the party:
"
  • To check-in for this event, please meet the greeting Cast Member at World Showcase Plaza, directly next to Port of Entry and adjacent to the Mexico Pavilion."
Port of Entry is a huge store I might add.

So we approach the location and see a line forming. We don't see any food or tables but it also states on their website that due to inclement weather the party may be moved inside. Seeing as it had been raining (lightly mostly) on and off all day we figured this was a good possibility. The line grew but we didn't move. At all. Every so often Dh would comment along the lines of 'this is the wrong line, this isn't right.' But wouldn't DO anything about it. I assured him over and over this WAS the right line. He even pulled up the description on the WDW app. Finally around 8:15 he said "this is ridiculous, I'm going to the front of the line to talk to a cast member" and off he went. I sighed and told my kids 'daddy has gone off on a wild goose chase.'

About 90 seconds later he came back and motioned for us to get OUT of line. Uh oh.... All he said was 'it's on the OTHER side of this store.'

And low and behold there was the dessert party, in full swing. Dammit.

I knew I'd be eating more than dessert soon, I'd be eating crow. :crazy2:

The lady checking us in must have seen I was a little frustrated as she asked if everything was ok so I said "no, we were standing in the wrong line for over 15 minutes and now we're horribly late." She gave me a sweet smile and assured me there was LOTS of food, we hadn't missed a thing and that there were plenty of open tables. And she was right on both counts!

Too tired/annoyed to take any photos of the food you'll just have to take our word that there were a ton of desserts - from fruit and chocolates to cakes, cookies, gelato and everything in between. Even alcoholic punch drinks for the over-21 crowd :drinking1

The kids bless 'em, had no clue DH was annoyed with me or that I was annoyed with myself. They happily made their own plates of food up and started munching happily. DH gave me THAT look and I told him "ok fine you can say it but ONLY ONCE."

With much glee in his voice he said rather audibly "I told you so." Smug bastard. I secretly hoped he'd choke on a strawberry.

And of course 15 minutes later when DD6 needed to go to the bathroom yours truly had to brave the crowds and take her to the nearest loo, a million miles away. Only to have her declare after sitting on the toilet for 10 seconds that no, she did not need to go. :faint:

It's worth noting, having done the World of Color Dessert party just 5 months prior to this, that I would suggest a bit of a change. Ie. SEATS. Chairs would be nice lol After 12 hours in the park it would have been nice to be able to sit. Plus I don't like standing when I eat.

Anyway the fireworks started pretty promptly at 9pm.

A couple of images before the show started:

And a couple of the actual show:

My humble opinion but I think World of Color was SOOOOO much better :cool2:

Once the show was over we gave the maddening crowds a few minutes to disperse and then we started the long walk back to the entrance and the parking lot. Dh took this of DD6 and I on the way out:

We were done with Epcot :rotfl:

Found the car easily as there were a lot of open spots at this point and after warming it up for a few minutes we were on our way and made it back to the hotel in no time.

Speaking of our hotel, here are some shots of our room:

Anyway it was probably at least 10pm when we got the girls to bed, maybe even later and they had had a FULL day. Plus tomorrow it was finally CRUISE day!!! They fell asleep quickly and DH and I stayed up a little bit longer, we made some coffee (horrible) in our room and stood outside watching the river view (typical, didn't take any photos of that either :rotfl:) finally calling it a night around 11:30 or so.

Somehow the weekend got away from me so just getting back to read about your day. What a loooonng day in Epcot for you all after such a busy travel day. Breakfast looked good, but the prosecco at dinner looked even better! LOL Love the photos of you all with the Inside Out characters. It's been such a long time since we've been to WDW that I didn't even know they were there! So, you have to tell us what the OTHER line was for! LOL And had to laugh at the classic husband/wife tiff. Got to love it when it's in a public place like that and in order to show said "miffedness" you either have to give each other "the look" or you just can't look at each other at all. :rotfl: At least it worked out in the end, but I agree that having a place to sit, especially when you are waiting and having dessert, would really be nice.

Oh so the first line we were standing in WAS for Illuminations as well - just fireworks-only lol:rotfl: So I was half right!:thumbsup2

Saturday January 14 2017

Woke up around 9am (we had decided to have a bit of a sleep in) and looked at my app, LOVE seeing this:

16002883_10158177577370245_3920454617849743839_n.jpg

Originally we had a 9:15am breakfast at 1900 Park Fare booked but about a month before the cruise I cancelled it. Good move! We were so exhausted from our Epcot day that I couldn't fathom having to pack up (not that we had unpacked much) and drive over there for breakfast before driving to the cruise port. Plus we'd had a character breakfast already at Epcot and had the Disney Jr Character breakfast booked for the cruise.

We got the girls up, packed up what needed to be packed and were on the road shortly after 9:30am.

About 10 minutes later we stopped at Chik Fil A because my husband just HAD to try it. We don't have them in Canada and he knows people who rave about this place. Personally the thought of fried chicken before 10am made my stomach turn so I had something unchicken related lol I think the girls shared popcorn chicken and tater tots (or hashbrowns??) and hubby of course went full on chicken. :crazy2: Weirdo!!

Back on the road by 10:30 and it was OFF to the Fantasy!!!

Man....what is with the toll roads in Florida? We paid no less than 3 tolls in the space of what - 15 minutes? How do you people get anywhere on time?!!! I guess if you have that sunpass or whatever it's called. We paid cash. The first booth we sat in line to pay but the next two we booted through as we had quarters - hubby loved 'throwing' the change in that metal thing and hearing it clang. Like I said, weirdo.

Our PAT was 11:30-11:45 and it was just about 11:30 when the Fantasy started to come into sight (so clearly we were LATE for our PAT which is totally fine. I'm not the cruiser who likes to sit and wait with 50 million other people I quite like arriving a bit later).

Wait.

You were thinking I'd post photos of the ship, right?

:rotfl2: Like I've said before we are CRAP when it comes to taking the most important photos. Don't worry, you'll get ship photos later on when we we're coming back from our excursions.

Anyway, we drove BY the port (well as near as the freeway gets to it) and then PAST it to drop the car at Budget.

Nice looooong line waiting for the shuttle back to the port. And the shuttles were small. :scratchin So we waited for 3 shuttles before we got on. Think it was around 12:30/12:45 when we arrived at the port. Oh well. Nice and empty! :thumbsup2

16143069_10154275518417066_458513204370964066_n.jpg

So we got through security and my husband reads the sign that says no photos. Fair enough. He took this to mean no photos ANYWHERE at ALL inside the terminal  I tried to tell him otherwise but NO we have NO photos inside the terminal.

I know.....we suck.

Moving on.

We get to the Castaway Club line (first time getting to use it!) and the guy tells us the newbie line is shorter so take your pick. so we took the newbie line which, honestly, I think moved about the same speed!

Never mind we were in line for maybe 10 minutes before it was our turn to check in :thumbsup2 And get our first SILVER lanyards :dancer:

Once we were given our lanyards and KTTW cards we stepped out of line and went over to some benches near the washroom (where two of US used the facilities as it seems my eldest DD has inherited my dodgy bladder :confused3)

With clean hands I then was able to take a good first look at our KTTW cards and saw that our dining rotation would be AERAEER

See? I remembered to include details :rotfl: Also noticed that I had planned our Palo dinner well as it would mean we would be missing one night at Enchanted Garden for it and that was the restaurant we were ultimately signed up to visit 3 times!:thumbsup2

Next went over to the line for the kids club since it was quite short at this point, less than 10 minutes later they had on their bands and were signed up! The lovely man helping us took my husband aside and whispered 'did we want our 8 year old to have check in check out priviledges?' which we kindly refused since this was her first time on the Fantasy and I personally feel that 8 is too young. My opinion I know. We will revisit this in August when we sail to Alaska as she will have just turned 9 (and has been on the Wonder before).

Anyway it was time to WALK on as of course we had no boarding number. We hightailed it past the line for the embarkation photo because we had no intentions of buying it (ok my HUSBAND had no intentions lol) and soon enough we were walking into the Atrium as they welcomed our FAMILY (yes we gave them our real last name, good luck pronouncing it, nice and Polish :thumbsup2) By the way it was now 1:30 :rotfl:

Yes I've got atrium photos....again......ya gotta wait for 'em :rotfl:

We made a beeline for our room to drop off our carryons so we wouldn't have to lug them around Cabana's. LOVED our room location. We were deck 5 aft, at the end of a dead end hallway. Room 5650 with and extended verandah. I would absolutely book this room again!!! We did share a wall with the kids club but honestly we barely heard any noise from there.

You were hoping for room photos weren't you?

Haven't you learned your lesson yet? :cool2:

Silly reader.

WE SUCK!!!

But you knew that already.

If you're lucky I might have some verandah photos but that was about it. No towel animals. No room photos. Because WE SUCK.

It's worth mentioning a few times.

On our first cruise, by the way? We took 54 photos of our room.

And we had an inside room.

:dance3:

But I digress.

It was getting on for 2pm and we were HANGRY so we booted it up to Cabana's - we were near the aft elevator and it conveniently opened up right into Cabana's! Some people, I understand, hate this? Not us!

Eventhough it was now later it was still quite busy so we got plates of food and sat outside in the covered deck. LOVELY. Bliss!!

You're smart enough not to expect food photos :thumbsup2

Just be grateful when some do show up later in this trip report and try not to ask too many questions, m'kay? :rotfl:

After lunch we walked around the upper decks of the ship, trying to get the lay of the land. It was at this moment that I realized I had forgotten to pack bathing suits into our carryons.

D'oh!!! My children were NOT impressed with me at this point. God, from then on all we heard was for the rest of the afternoon was 'when can we go swimminnnnnnnggggg??!!!!'

Mother of the year, right here :thumbsup2

Shortly before the muster drill we went back down to our cabin - not sure why, I think to check if any luggage had arrived? Anyway, one had already arrived and it happened to be the one that contained my hubby's beer mug :drinking1 So he was happy :rotfl:

Went to the muster drill promptly at 3:58! Lined up in size order and stood in the sun, baking. It had really warmed up at this point (or what WE consider warm for January!) Think it was all wrapped up by 4:15 so we ran back to our room (which was near the muster station) but no more suitcases so we went up on deck to catch the sail way party but of course it was super crowded so we didn't have the best view.

16143217_10154275518847066_4657032442456211734_n.jpg

When it was over we got the girls a drink at the beverage station and DH and I got some ADULT bevvies. Can't recall what my first drink was but it was yummy

Of course DH had a picture perfect photo taken by me of his first beer

Bye Nasa!!!

Coming up next:

We tour the kids clubs, we see our first show, we have our first dinner (Animators) and meet our lovely serving team :jumping1:

I love sailing out of Port Canaveral, it's definitely nicer than Galveston. We've taken Disney transport from the resorts a couple of times and you get to the port later too, it is nice to skip the crowds, I agree with you there.

I guess at least you can remember what you did, seeing as the photos were a little scarce, glad to see you got a photo of the first drink though - lets make sure the really important stuff gets included. :teeth:

Yay for an update!

Do you remember where you stood to see NASA? I would love to see that.

Glad to hear you liked room 5650. I just read another review of it that was positive too. I like to keep a little list of rooms that get good reviews.

We were on deck 12 port side when my husband took the NASA photo.

I really can't say anything bad about our room, I would book it again in a heartbeat! Yes, it creaked a bit at night (not every night) but it wasn't enough to keep us awake.

Joining in!

:welcome::boat:

So I think I screwed up the order in which we did a few things! lol Pretty sure we did the kids club after lunch (before muster and sail away) and then went back to our room to unpack the rest of the suitcases after Sail away and before the first show. But whatever....you get the gist ;-)

Speaking of kids clubs, here are some photos we took during open house:

After we were unpacked (mostly) in our room we took some photos from our verandah of the first sunset.

Myself and DD8 try them out. She is also taking a video of the sunset and dabbing at the same time. A real multitasker!

We were enjoying ourselves so much in fact that we forgot to attend our first show!! We did pry ourselves away to catch the last minutes or so of A Fantasy Come True. Actually, thought it was quite cheesy :rotfl:

After the show we checked out the stores but of course they were nuts - we knew we'd be back lol So we went back to our room to do the last bits of unpacking. The girls decided they wanted to change and both put on dresses and soon it was time to head to Animators Palate for our first dinner! Tonight it was Pacific Rim Cuisine.

We met our lovely serving team for the first time :thumbsup2 Ashang was our server - his catch phrase to the girls before saying hello or serving their plates was "Hola Minnie!!!" He was exhuberant and fun and the girls loved him! I thought he was a riot :cheer2:

Our assistant server was Joel. He was quiet and reserved (possibly new-ish??) but he was very polite and was an excellent assistant server. He gave me great wine recommendations every night (and I blame him for my new favourite wine which happens to be $30 a bottle back here at home....and maybe have been purchased 2 or 3 times since I've been back! :drinking1 Hey now my $12 Ontario wine just doesn't cut it anymore :rotfl:)

We also met our head server, JC. He was warm and gracious and took the time every evening to visit our table, ask how our service was, if there was anything we needed, asked about our day. Really, they were all great and we felt spoiled all week long!

Apparently DD8 loved this knife and I never found it in the stores to buy it

First Mickey bar!!! This was the standard dessert for the girls every single night. They would not deviate!

Now of course I can't remember what we ate (except of course I HAD TO HAVE the truffle pursettes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:jumping1:)

And I suppose if I dug up a menu I would remember.

But you get a dessert pic at least :thumbsup2

After our lovely first dinner we went back to the shops to check them out. I did purchase a DCL Pandora charm for my bracelet :dancer:

Apparently DD6 tried to beg for this hat

16265263_10154275396527066_4234068718363762819_n.jpg

Begging, however, did no good as we reminded her she had 5 various Disneyland hats at home....that were gathering dust  So BB8 went back on the shelf.

Outside the shops we ran into this guy
16252172_10154275400442066_718700669372307269_o.jpg

Then we got a couple of tired girls on the throne

It had been a long, busy first day and it was time to call it a night! Everyone off to bed!!!

Tomorrow was our first sea day and it was going to be busy! Disney Jr Character breakfast, Frozen Meet n Greet, Mixology!!:jumping3:

Hmmm...now I want want of those oversized verandahs next time we go on the Fantasy. I can't believe you didn't give in to the cute begging face. :teeth:

So I forgot to mention (why is it all my entries seem to start off with that phrase? :sad2:) that when we entered our room for the first time there was also a sheet waiting for our pertaining to meet and greets for Star Wars day. You got to rank them from 1 (your top choice) to 5 I believe - I left this to DH to fill out as it was more 'his thing'. It had to be handed in to a box in front of Guest Services by 11pm on the second night of the cruise. He made sure it was in that box by the time we went to bed the first night :thumbsup2 I knew he had selected Jedi Training for the girls but I didn't see what else he put down.

Anyway, just a housekeeping note as I know lots of you want to know what happens during SW cruises. We would find out later in the cruise (day before SWday) which meets were chosen and for which times.

Moving on.

Sunday January 15th - sea day #1!

We had the Disney Jr character breakfast booked for 9:30am so made sure everyone was up by 9am (remember we are on the west coast and still trying to get used to the time change lol)

We were back in Animators for this. I've heard several people say they felt rushed through the breakfast, that they didn't get a lot of character interaction and that the food was not very good. We felt NONE of this. Breakfast was a nice leisurely pace, service was good, food was good and lots of character interaction. I do know that I woke up that morning feeling a little queasy (still trying to get my sea legs) so I wasn't that hungry. While everyone else dug into plates of eggs, waffles, bacon etc I had a bagel with lox and cream cheese and a fruit cup.

Before long the first character appeared

After breakfast the girls went to the kids clubs for a bit while we strolled around the ship and had our first coffees at Cove Cafe :dancer:

We had tickets for a 12:30pm Frozen Meet and Greet so we picked the girls up just after 12 so they could get changed into princess dresses if they so choose. In true fashion DD6 refused the change and when it came time for the photos, refused to meet Anna and Elsa :sad2: She was exactly like this on our first cruise. All other character meets she will do except for the ticketed ones. What the heck, kid?!

Frozen was - you guessed it - back in Animators! :rotfl:

Isn't that anchor cool?!! We received it that morning as an FE gift!!! Including the Sharpie (which I can't find at the moment:confused3)

After Frozen we had about an hour to kill before Mixology started for DH and I so we all hit the pool.

After grabbing a quick snack and rushing everyone out of the pool we went back to the room to change, dropped the girls off at the clubs and then hit Skyline lounge for mixology!! :dancer::drinking1:dancer::drinking1

I think I mentioned this already but I had actually set up all the mixology groups (4 in total) for our cruise. Everyone was so lovely and I kept getting people coming up to me thanking me for setting it up. Awww, shucks :thumbsup2

Our bartenders were awesome and we ALL got to make some drinks, some people went up twice.

Horrible photo of me (thanks to my husband :sad2:), here I am making the second cocktail (the first round was a muddled drink and that sounded too much like hard work ) This one was rum and....I dunno....but I was heavy handed with the booze :thumbsup2

These peeps are making a layered drink and they all did a fantastic job :bounce:

This my friend P, and I

16142351_10154275397537066_5872487879833493273_n.jpg

So long story, which I will try to keep brief  This was the first time P and I had met IRL. We have been online friends since 2008 or 2007 (our eldest daughters were born 12 days apart). They live in Windsor ON. When we moved our cruise from the Wonder Jan 13th Bahamas to the Jan 14th SWDAS P had told me they were planning on doing the Fantasy as well, but 2 weeks before us  then she told her husband, R, that (a) we were going to be on this cruise and that (b) doing it just two weeks later meant saving a TON of money. He was ALL over that! lol So it's funny how things work out. Later on in the cruise she and I will meet up with our girls for Royal Court Tea. Our families also planned to meet up on Castaway (we had tried to get a Cabana to share but they had all gone to Concierge and Platinum cruisers). Unfortunately we never got a group shot of all of our families together or the two couples together :sad2:

Here DH is making the final cocktail, a shot which included fireball

16174858_10154275399942066_5841354961616646090_n.jpg

Afterwards we stayed to chat for a bit before all going our separate ways.

While the girls were still in the clubs DH decided he wanted to see Empire Strikes Back (my least favourite of all the Star Wars movies) so he went off and I checked on the girls, neither of whom wanted to come out. I went back to the room, debating whether or not to get a drink from a bar or Cove Cafe or what when DH came back to the room. Seems his contacts were bugging him (this tends to happen in warm climates) and unfortunately he had forgotten to bring his glasses with him on the trip. So he took his lenses out and we went down to the stores in search of eye drops (purchased and a reasonable price!) Think we went to Satelite Falls then and had a drink (because we hadn't had enough at Mixology :confused3)

The show that night was Aladdin and I knew it was NOT to be missed. I was really excited for this one, I loved the one they had at Disneyland California Adventure (which has since closed) and I was anxious to see how they compared.

Went to pick up the girls but only DD6 wanted to come. And she insisted on changing first.

Running amok

16174534_10154275405632066_4809866635270717749_n.jpg

She laughed everytime we passed these pictures and insisted we take a photo

16252272_10154275401992066_3325759473172425819_o.jpg

We got to the show early as we wanted good seats and then of course......DD6 is BORED. And hungry :rotfl: So we caved and I went to get us popcorn, ended up buying a collectible box, Han Solo in Carbonite popcorn::

The show was excellent. I'd have to say not *quite* as good as the one in DCA but it was still really REALLY good. And if we sail on the Fantasy again (hint hint) I would absolutely see it again.

That night was formal night but we didn't really dress up super formal. I wore a dress, as did both girls and DH wore a dress shirt and tie.

This was our first time eating in Enchanted Garden and our table was right at the entrance to the restaurant, convenient :thumbsup2 It was Continental Market Cuisine and I ate.....

Haven't got a clue :rotfl: But I'm sure it was lovely!

And then something.....strange? Odd?? Unexpected??! Happened.

Our serving staff said that tonight they were going to celebrate my birthday. And DH's birthday. And our wedding anniversary. party:

My birthday was not for 3 weeks.

DH has his birthday in October.

Our anniversary is mid August.

But okkkkaaayyyyy

So they came over to sing and we received even MORE desserts

Hmmm.....we just figured that maybe they try to get everyones' birthday in at some point during the cruise? While I knew this wasn't true what other explanation could there be?:confused3

After dinner we wandered the ship for a while and then we all turned in. We had to set our clocks ahead 1 hours :thumbsup2

Next up: Sea day # 2. Palo Brunch!! And we finally get to the bottom of the birthday/anniversary celebration mystery!

Dun dun dun!!

Great! We have our first character breakfast booked in a couple weeks and I'm excited to see DD's reaction.

Empire Strikes Back (my least favourite of all the Star Wars movies)
Me too! I've been informed repeatedly that true fans know it's the best of all, but I'm sticking to my guns on this one.

Keep it up! Great report so far.
