Staying at Ft. Wilderness cabins for the first time.
January 4
The kids and I took the Disney busses out of Ft. Wilderness and headed to Epcot. Our first thing we wanted to do was to upgrade our 5 day PH passes to 6 day WYW tickets. Heres the situation: I was buying our 5 day PH passes at the Disney Store every payday for a couple of months before our trip. When I had 5 passes bought (and one more to purchase) I found out about the MYW tickets. After lots of posts and lots of reading up and going over prices, etc. I figured I would just get to Guest Relations and see what I could do. We wanted to upgrade our tickets to 7 day passes, but since we stayed in Tennessee an extra day because of dd6 getting sick, we only needed 6 day passes. And dh wasnt even at the parks that night (remember, he was back at the cabin with his beer and wings watching the bowl game). By this time it was going on 7pm and we knew Epcot was closing soon, but we just wanted to get into the parks.
It was a real hassle at Guest Relations. Long story (very long story) short, they couldnt upgrade my 5 day PH passes to a 6 day MYW ticket with just hopping. They said they would have to upgrade it to non-expiring too and that would have cost me lots more per ticket. DD17 came over and explained we just wanted to get into Epcot for the night and it was by now already 7:30pm. OK, I really hate to say this, but the CM seemed to be really flirting with dd17. I didnt notice it until AFTER he gave us free tickets for Epcot for the night and dd17 says, OMG, did you see how much he was flirting with me??? OK, yeah I guess I noticed it. I was wondering how come he got awfully nice right when dd17 showed up at the window to talk to him. LOL!
So, now we were on our way into Epcot.
After talking with a CM at a souvenoir stand, we figured out there were no rides for the little ones to do in Future World that night. The teens wanted to do the big rides like Mission Space and Test Track. DD6, ds4, and I were heading to the countries. We planned on meeting up at 8:45 pm at Mexico and watch Illuminations together. If we didnt meet up there, we would meet at the big fountain in Future World after Illuminations was over.
We didnt get a stroller for that first night because the park was closing in about 1 ½ hours so we walked over to Mexico and checked that out. We rode the boat ride. Ds4 kept on saying it was just like Its A Small World so I was happy he liked it, especially since IASW was closed in MK!! Next we headed over to Norway, then China. We got some food in China egg rolls and fried rice. We sat out on the bench to eat and a father and child stood right next to us while the child proceeded to throw up all in the grass. Gee, thanks! What a thing to do while someone is eating. OK, I just went through lots of puking with my own child a couple of days before so I know when they gotta throw-up, you just have to improvise. The father quickly moved himself in front of us so he could block his child so we didnt have to see it anymore that was ok. Things like that happen and the kids didnt even notice it. No big deal.
It was 8:45pm and we headed back to Mexico to find the teens. We couldnt find them so we found a spot for Illuminations. Ds4 quickly put his hands over his ears and asked to leave. He has NEVER like loud noises, especially fireworks, but I thought he would be ok since hes a bit older. He wasnt crying, just asking to leave. So we quickly got out of there. We made it far enough away so ds4 couldnt hear the loud booms, but dd6 could still see the fireworks. Then we made it over to the fountain to wait for the teens. It wasnt long before we found them and we left for the Ft. Wilderness bus rides back to our cabin.
Ill tell you, the Disney Transportation is great, but it really takes a long time to get back to a cabin. Especially since ours was the last cabin in the loop, it seemed to take forever. Ive read lots of reports from others who stay in a cabin and they say you need to request a cabin 2 or 3 into the loop. Now I know why!!!! Ours was at the very end of the loop and with the 2 little ones, it was a 5 minute walk from our cabin to the bus stop at the end of our loop. I guess we could have rented a golf cart, but I wanted to hold out on getting one until I felt it was a real necessity. (we ended up never renting one, it was never really a big deal to walk to the bus stop, nor a big deal to wait for a bus).
Back at the cabin we finished unpacking our stuff. I made hot chocolate for the kids and then we headed for bed.
