Oh wow TigerAllie, I have tears reading that, I am so glad Sarah was able to spread some cheer to your Aunt - and to you too, because there is just as much pleasure in giving :)

PractPerfPatricia! so glad you had a nice time at AKL. WL is also very beautiful and it is nice to take the boats. You will have a great holiday there too. Looking forward to your report when you get rid of your guests. (what were you thinking!?!?)

OK, so here are some of my favorite Christmas decoration pics that I took at the Lodge. Lots more after Christmas...hope you all enjoy the pics and the holidays!

Gorgeous photos, Accu-weather Duck. I especially like the marketplace one and the one with the Eland. Just beautiful but you are making me homesick for AKL. :(

Thanks, Cass...I'm making myself homesick, too!

.... :confused3 too late!!

:rotfl:

20 more sleeps till AKL for me! (At least 4 of those sleeps will be at the WL, that helps!)

I'm so happy to have the boards back!

I just got a new telephoto lens for my camera, so if I don't come back with some amazing AKL photos, you all have permission to whack me upside the head.

I agree that Sarah is absolutely wonderful. We had her buy some sweatshirts, lanyards, name badges and misc. other things to use as Christmas gifts. (My family doesn't read the boards so they won't know until tomorrow!) Several of the sweatshirts were no longer available in the sizes we needed once we made our choices, but Sarah found them in stock less than a week later. The lanyards we originally chose apparently fly out the window as soon as they arrive in the stores, but Sarah was there the day a shipment of new 2007 lanyards came in. She bought some just in case we decided to use them instead. She was also there the day the 2007 name badges arrived. Her price was so reasonable that we gave her a bonus. She definitely deserved it for all the time she spent working with us. So now we're mostly set for our trip. I just have a few more "finishing touches" up my sleeve:)

Merry Christmas and Jambo to all on the AKL thread! Hot, rainy and sticky here in WDW. I wonder what time MK will be closed today! Any guesses?

24 minutes till the parade on ABC (of course).

Time to make the Berbere marinade for the Jiko lamb shanks! (I'm a nervous wreck)

Okay, how cool is this? I just saw my next door neighbor's kids in the parade crowd! LOL

:yay:ATTN: all you folks just getting back!! :yay:

inquiring .. and soon traveling minds want to know ..

what's the scoop on the DVC construction??

Ben's Mom, that is cool that you saw your neighbours on TV.

CoolDisneyCat, I just came back from AKL... way down down down at the very end of Kudu you can see some work being done, bulldozers, tractors, that kind of thing.

The new DVC has not affected anything else at AKL, you wouldn't even know anything is going on.

That's good news! I wonder if they'll eventually have to close down some of the Sunset Savannah rooms to avoid people having to deal with construction noise/visuals, or not.

I was a little surprised when Samantha Brown talked about the new AKL DVC on the parade today that they didn't show anything- it would have been neat to see some concept art!

BTW, Cass, your little girl pic has been making me laugh for weeks!

So, when are they starting the Construction? I am due to arrive on Feb. 4th abd hope they don't start than.

I've uploaded some of my NON-Christmas photos I took of AKL during our Dec 16-21 stay (I posted some Christmas photos earlier)...so here's Part 1 of my "report"---big on pics, small on verbiage.

FIRST NIGHT, BOMA DINNER BUFFET
234914_Boma_1.jpg

Our Boma ADR was for an hour after our Saturday afternoon arrival, which we thought would be the perfect way to begin our stay. In retrospect, although we enjoyed the meal and the experience, we'd have enjoyed it lots more had we waited until the "trip wearies" had worn off.

The restaurant is more beautiful and welcoming than I even imagined, but there were two problems:

1) It was EXTREMELY busy, and that created overstimulation for two weary travelers.

2) The food was very tasty and well-prepared, but given how tired I was, it was spicier than I could handle well (surprisingly, my wife did just fine, and generally I'm the one who handles spicy foods better). Each individual item tasted great going down, but as is typical at a buffet, I ate decent portions of a LOT of different things, and because each item was spiced differently, before the end of the meal my stomach said "enough". Still, we'd go back again...just under different circumstances!

As I said in my post just after we got back, this was a room that a lot of folks might think was sub-par, but both of us LOVED it!

The negatives were that it was an especially dark room down an especially dark hallway hidden in the trees, and since it was at one of the lower points in the Lodge and just off the pool, there was a faint musty/mildewy smell in both the hallway and room.

The positives were:

1) It was one of the most convenient rooms in the whole lodge!..to the left, just 50 feet away from and on the same level as the Bus Stops, and to the right a few steps from an elevator and stairs that took you (one floor down) out to the pool and across to the Mara and (one floor up) to a short corridor leading to Zawadi Marketplace and the lobby. Our tired bodies really appreciated getting off the bus in the evening and being in our room in less than a minute. And for me in the early a.m., it was a quick and beautiful jaunt to the Mara for breakfast, and to Zawadi for my morning paper!

2) It had the most private balcony we've ever had at a Disney Resort...well-shaded by a variety of lovely trees, and with a view of the pool but unviewable by those on the pool deck. With the weather being so terrific and given our location, we spent FAR more time sitting in our Zebra chairs (sometimes enjoying our take-out Zebra Domes!) than we have on any Disney balcony, EVER!

Parts 2 and 3 will be coming up!

So, when are they starting the Construction? I am due to arrive on Feb. 4th abd hope they don't start than.

It was my understanding that construction has already begun. I read where one poster was staying on the Sunset Savannah, and saw earthmovers, bulldozers, etc. It ruined the atmosphere for them, and they were luckily able to get switched over to Zebra Trail.

Hey guys, I feel like such a rookie here, but I gotta ask. Has anyone had experience at EPCOT on New Years Eve? They say "locals" always avoid the parks at this time of year, and I guess being a local, I should, too; however, we are having friends into town and they want to do Disney. We have ressies at Le Cellier and then planned on sticking around till the 11:40 I show. What are our chances of getting into EPCOT, say, around 7, after dropping kids off at Sandcastles Club to get into the park? I have heard of the parks shutting down after meeting capacity. Eeek! The alternative is to stay at home...a block party in the 'hood. We can hear IllumiNations from our front porch! So, either way, it won't stink. Thanks!

Hey BensMom! I thought of you as we were waiting at the EPCOT busses one night while Illuminations was on...we had great fireworks views but NO SOUND! So I wondered, how is it that you, 2 miles to the south, can hear Illuminations, whereas at the bus stops, less than 1/2 mile to the north, we couldn't? Do more speakers face south? How well can you see the fireworks?

BTW, how did your Jiko lamb shanks recipe work out?

RDuck...well, good question, but I am sure glad I can! AND...since the holidays, man, are they loud! The finale is incredible. It's like the wind carries it just right, and it echoes across Celebration Golf Course...our house is right off the first hole, and it is really loud. Every night during the year at 9:18, I can set my watch to it. Since the holidays, due to the Candlelight Pro, it's 9:48! Our neighbors, who were one of the original families to buy here in '96, said that before all the homes were built in our neighborhood, they would go up on their top porch and see them. We cannot see them, I don't think...only "audio"! So, I don't have an answer to your question. It's kinda like we all ran out to the golf course to hear the sonic boom when the space shuttle landed the other day -- NOTHING! It was supposed to travel due north of us, and we usually do hear it, but not this time. Again, not sure why.

I loved everything about the grounds of AKL. Along with WL and the Poly, it did the best job of transporting me to a place that certainly wasn't Florida! I had my most fun early in the morning, strolling around with my camera and coffee mug...with few people to break the illusion I was on the African plains! In fact, I met three different interpreters during my glorious morning safaris, including the sweet Namibian girl I snapped a pic of. Each one was thrilled to be here furthering their education and experience, and each one enjoyed sharing their knowledge of their countries and of the animals. And as for the animals, I saw pretty much every species they have except for the River Hogs...although I saw a lot more animal REARS than FRONTS. Were they trying to tell me something?

Jeez, this report sounds deadly serious...not like me at all, and certainly not how I felt when I snapped the pics. Oh well, I'll just let the pics do the talking.

Next up....Interior pics.
