We are staying 1 night in Jax prior to WDW (visiting family). Can anyone recommend a hotel? BTW they live near Herlong airport (103 St and 295). I don't know anything about Jax, or what parts are "safe".

I'd stay at a hotel in the southside/mandarin area. 103rd st area is not very safe anymore--I grew up there but things have unfortunately changed a lot since then. Another choice I'd recommend is Country Inn and Suites at Blanding and 295. That is close to your relatives but in a better area, is an inside corridor hotel, and is right by the highway so you can get an easy start to Orlando.
Hope this helps!

Two summers ago, while traveling from my brother's place in Charleston, SC to WDW, we stayed the night in Jacksonville. I have a Marriott Rewards card, and had the points to stay for free, and picked a Fairfield Inn, because it was the lowest point value.

We couldn't believe it when we got to our room. We both thought it was one of the nicest rooms we've ever stayed in. Was pretty easy on/off I-95.

The thing we noticed was the number of businessmen/women at this hotel. It was pretty much brand new when we stayed there, and I think the word had gotten out to business travelers about it already.
