J.C. Penny's "fair & square" pricing...the results are in

Apparently I'm not much of a budget shopper because I don't think I've ever had a coupon for a clothing store. Where in the world does one find coupons for clothing? Is that something that comes with store cc because I don't have any of those.

I rarely shopped JCP before the change because frankly I thought $70 for a dress was ridiculous. Last week I wandered in just to see what the fuss was all about and I found 3 terrific dresses for work and the most expensive one was $40. I think I like the change!

I had not been in Penney's for a while because I wanted to cut on my spending. When I went in last week I noticed the store looked so different - especially in the shoe department. At first glance there didn't seem to be a variety of shoes. They all looked the same. I had to walk around and Clarks. The store was empty.

I don't bother much w/JCP b/c I don't get what's 'new'..... I always see special prices advertised in the paper, but thought they didn't do 'sales' anymore....it's a stupid idea as far as I can see...... either somethings on sale or it's not....

I haven't been to JCP since the change so it's a fail with me. I'm not a shopper and only shop when I need something or when I have a great coupon. For Penneys that meant that every time they mailed me a $10 off $10 coupon, I would stop in. I would normally buy 2 St Johns Bay t shirts. They were always $7 so 2 shirts for $4. Those same shirts are now priced at $5 this month (just looked online) so 2 would be $10- not a better deal. My last "I need stuff" trip to Penneys was around Christmas. I bought 2 pair of sweatpants for $10 each and one pair of jeans for $25 and one $7 shirt. $52 total and then used a $15 off $50 coupon. The only coupon that always got me in the store was the $10 off $10. They mailed the others every week but I only used them once or twice a year when I needed something.

The lack of coupons has kept me from stopping in. I may stop in this weekend for a couple of shirts now that I see that they are $5. I could use a couple.

The only one in this house who always needs or thinks she needs something is DD15 and she wouldn't even look at JCP- sale or not.

I am amazed at the people who won't shop unless there is they see the word "Sale". Really, all that means is....."We've overpriced our items and now are going to fool you into thinking you are getting a deal."

Sorry, but when I can walk out of JCPenney with 5 Bali bras for $88.00, or I can pick up a pair of Liz Claiborne pajamas for $22, they are doing something right in my book!

My wife loves JCP, but as happened with a PP, she had a big hassle with the package pickup desk being eliminated and having to go through the registers. They took something that was very convenient for her, and turned it into something that sucks.

It's not that I never go to Penney's anymore, but I no longer make a special Saturday morning trip to go there the way that I used to when I had a good coupon. What I like about coupons (and I suspect that this is true for quite a lot of people), is that a coupon creates a make-your-own-sale situation: I can use it to knock down the price of whatever item I am in the market for. I'm a bargain shopper in general, and when it comes to clothing I have price points that work for me for certain items; if I have to pay more for it I simply choose to do without.

I also don't have time to go shop on Friday nights, and that is probably the most irritating thing about the new price strategy. I feel like they are punishing me for failing to conform to this strangely tight schedule.

As a general rule I don't care for Kohl's much; the exceptions being kids' shoes and lingerie basics. I'll cherry-pick their coupons just to get those things.

What I think that Penney's should do is start doing text coupons again as a loyalty premium. If you sign up you get them on a phone or computer, but nothing comes in the mail. (And they really should ditch those glossy mailers; they have to be costing a fortune.)

I've worked p/t at Penney's for 18 years. In the past two weeks our store had two supervisor positions eliminated completely. Yesterday our store mgr. announced her resignation-effective immediately (we all loved her, so staff morale is pretty low as you can imagine). So right now we have no store mgr. I checked my schedule this morning, and after today I have no shifts-nothing:worried:. Very bizarre how the company has been treating employees who have worked there a long time, some for many decades:(

I just wanted to say I am very sorry.

I have to say I'm not a huge fan of the new Pennys. I used to love their Juniors Dept, and would get my teen-aged niece quite a few things there. But now it seems that there selection has gone way down. Very few cute tops, mostly novelty tee shirts or tank tops. And the jeans are too expensive.

I've had a few people tell me they found great deals, but I haven't had any lucky. I do miss their buy one get one for $1 sales. But I too hate that large booklet they send out.

Thank you. I'm working today. The supervisors who are still working just walk away when we try to ask questions (they've probably been told by corporate they can't talk). One just started crying last night when I asked her a question. For a company that prides itself on being family oriented I'm surprised at how employees are being treated. I would hope that after almost twenty years of service I would at least be told by an actual person that my job has been cut instead of finding out by looking at my schedule online.

I have seen this at my place of employment...by starting with the senior employees, the company is going to save the most money. If you have someone making $50,000/year and someone else who can do that job only making $30,000/year, guess who is going to go first.

My employer, yes a Catholic School....will take a full time teacher and move her to part time and eventually make the job so distasteful she will retire. It is absolutely heart breaking, and given we are a Catholic School.....hello, how about the old adage "Practice what you preach".

Some stores are "cool" "attractive" or "trendy" enough to attract customers without coupons or constant sales. You are just drawn to those stores because you know they'll have something that you'll love.

Penneys is not that type of store. You go to Penneys for a specific need or a good deal. We don't need things often so the customers have to be attracted. Coupons draw people in.

I'm very sorry for the employees. I hope the company can turn this around.

My brother is a 25+ year employee. His commission (shoes) was stopped and he is now part time instead of full time. And of course his hours are so varied it is difficult to work another part time job around them.

I wish you luck. Hope you had a great day in spite of:(

Since their new pricing we've gone in more. Ours still has a clearance section. I just got each of kids new t-shirts & shorts that were on clearance for $2-$4 marked down from $6-$10.

Our local mayor has been a supervisor for a while now and they are cutting back on positions at our local JCP too. He managed to opt for early retirement. It does look like their pricing is starting to hit their staff.

The change has also affected the clothes they sell. I use to go to Penneys and walk out with something, even if I was not looking for anything. Now I can't find anything.

had moved to Michigan in 1988 and Target opened and tried this all same prices and no sales and I did not like it at all. some say I like to palay the game with sales but whatever i never seen where it ever saved me a dime and target dropped it in Michigan maybe 8 months into it as well
