And why?

IMO, birds are definitely the best pets......as long as you take plenty of time to learn about them and then have a lot of time to spend with them.

I am going to say Rats...(waving to Ratsrule). My DD's guys are more personable than hamsters...less pain in the butt than dogs for the most part I can't complain about them at all!

In an effort to not offend either of my furry kids, I'll say dogs AND cats. Although I do have a cat that THINKS he's a dog, so maybe just dogs then. :D

Cats and Dogs, in that order, but very close together. :)

Well, we have 2 cats and 8 birds and they fit well in our family. (We also have 2 kids) You just have to watch out for the birds tho. Not too long ago our youngest cocatiel, Ziggo, bit through my mouse wire! He loves to walk around here while I'm on the computer and I didn't realize what he was doing until it was too late..

Dogs, with cats a close second. Although, I think it has a lot to do with your personality. I think I like dogs a teeny bit better because they are less independent.

It depends. How's that for middle of the road?;)
It really depends on your lifestyle. For DH & I right now, cats are the best. When we have more time at home we'll probably add a dog or two to the mix. :D

edited for spelling, my pet peeve!

Dogs get my vote:) I'm a dog lover from way back & in my opinion there is no better pet than a pampered pooch:)

I've had dogs, cats, hamsters, gerbils, fish, mice, birds and even a couple of squirrels. I also had horses.

I agree with 2disneywego - it depends on your lifestyle.

For keeping me outdoors the most, horses get the thumbs up. I love to ride.

I had hamsters, gerbils and mice when I was a kid. My mother wanted me to learn how to take care of animals before I got bigger ones. However, we had cats and dogs while I was growing up too, but my parents and older siblings took care of them.

My father bought me my first aquarium when I was 21. I learned quickly that you don't just throw in a few fish flakes  but they are very beautiful. I had a few birds which I absolutely loved but I didn't have good luck with them - one pulled out all his feathers because he was frustrated over not having a mate. Another got out of his cage and the cat ate him. And the last one I had used to play with my dog - the dog got too rough and somehow broke his neck. No birds for me unless I can give them an aviary.

Dogs give me the best security and companionship; but there's still nothing like a cat. Cats think on their own and I like that. Besides, there's nothing like a few kittens curled up on your lap, purring, or your big old Tom cat curled up by your feet in bed on a cold winter's night.

Dog without a doubt! Unconditional love that lasts forever...what more could you ask for. :)

I grew up with fish and trees. They are pretty good because they never talk back.

Dogs are still the BEST though.

Having a husband is not bad either. :)

I love all animals! *except birds that bite* I would love nothing more to have land for horses and more shepards, kitties.....ah.............pets....gotta love em!

I love most animals. But I have to pick dogs.
My dd thinks snakes are since they require so little care.
Fish aren't bad and neither are the newts.
Hamsters are fine as long as there aren't two of them. lol
I love cats too.

SOMEBODY ELSES!:p But seriously, we currently have fish, dog, guinea pigs, and a praying mantis and will be adding hermit crabs Dec. 25. I have to say the dog is the most lovable and loyal...but those fish are so easy to care for!

You just have to watch out for the birds tho. Not too long ago our youngest cocatiel, Ziggo, bit through my mouse wire! He loves to walk around here while I'm on the computer and I didn't realize what he was doing until it was too late..

My conure did that too, except I knew it because he would attack my hand every time I tried to use the mouse! Luckily, I have a laptop now w/o a mouse. Now, my conure politely sits on my head while I am at the computer.
