In another thread I talked about how our insurance through USAA had gone up several hundred dollars with no claims. I shopped and shopped and shopped around spending literally hours on the phone with companies. Today is our first official day with Allstate. This saved close to $700 a year from what we were paying. It took time and lots of questions to make sure coverages were the same but it was well worth it....so there is the first $700.

Yesterday we realized our promos with Comcast (the ONLY cable provider in our area) expired and were expiring. We have cable and internet with them. After several phone and online live chats I ended up saving close to $300 a year by doing a triple play bundle with phone, internet and cable. I found that by doing an online chat at 2AM when I couldn't sleep was the key....I had specifically asked for promos to reduce the cost of the DVR box monthly rental...no one else could fine it but at 2AM the Ronald found a promo! He also found one to waive the rental fee for the phone modem...amazing.

Guess what I have learned is it does pay to be persistent. I was always very polite and asked specific questions. It is amazing how at least with cable everyone had a different price. When I got one I like I jumped on it....

Just wanted to share some info on how I saved money...I know it is not in my pocket at once but it will make a difference over the course of every month!

Can I ask how much is your home owners insurance, that you could save $700?

I have home owners insurance through AAA, and my full year bill isn't $700!!

ICF, our homeowners insurance is 2k per year, house covered at $250k. If you live down here where we have had hurricanes hit, your insurance is higher. We are getting off cheap compared to others I know. We aren't even that close to the coast but still considered to be a higher risk per the insurance companies.

OP, congrats on saving that much money. I have comcast and had the triple play discount. Maybe I should give them a call.

:woohoo:, congratulations!

That is a great savings. We currently have USAA, but I am shopping around as our policy is up in December and they keep raising our insurance every darn year.

Yep, I had to ditch USAA in March for our homeowners and vehicle to get the extra discount with LM.

I called to cancel and let them know why! They were great for car insurance (no claims) but LM worked hard to get my biz, so they lost that too!

My escrow dropped $100 a month!

USAA is a great bank and I will always be a member but they were OOC on the homeowners insurance!

That was for auto and home owner combined. My current homeowner is $982 for $325,000 replacement cost. That is a savings of $600 per year over USAA.

Wow-- we only pay about $450 a year for homeowners through USAA. Our house isn't huge though (1400 sq feet plus full finished basement) and we don't live in a high-risk area.

I know USAA isn't the cheapest overall for any insurance (they charge us quite a bit for our cars) but I like the peace of mind they offer. I have been with them since I got my first car (almost 20 years ago! ) and they have been super easy to deal with every time I've needed them.

I think I have cut our cable internet, satellite, and phone just about as low as it can possibly go already.

$29/mo. modem, $72/mo. satellite, and $0 for Ooma phone service.

I should call some insurance companies and see if we can change our insurance though....

Does anyone know what happens when you change from a company that has auto deductions with your escrow account?

Thanks,

Dawn
