I've never started a political thread before, but WOW

I was actually talking about all the hatred thrown out by your party in the last few weeks (since Palin was chosen for VP).

::yes::

Glad you said it. :thumbsup2

I often wonder if BO is rolling his eyes at it.

McCain still has no technology plan. Whereas Senator McCain devotes prominent real estate on his Web site to issues like “the sanctity of life,” the Second Amendment, and “judicial philosophy,” he has no entry on technology. Barack Obama, meanwhile, prominently features a plan to provide “technology and innovation for new agendaan issue he addressed not only in his announcement speech in February 2007 but also in a far-reaching speech at Google headquarters in California late last year.

What exactly should a "Technology Plan" consist of?:confused3

When Obama say's he has "technology and innovation for new agenda" is what makes me SQUIRM!!!!!! What is this NEW AGENDA?:confused3 This is precisely why I will note vote for Obama, he throws these phrases out there, with nothing to back them up. Too me, many thngs he says leaves WAY MORE questions, then he has answers for. I mean it all sounds purdy, BUT really what is he saying?

As of today, the US Government employs thousands of people who not only keeps up to date and develops new Technology. The US Governement is the TOP leader of technology now. Although they dont get the same press as Google, Microsoft & Apple.

Obama also said he will appoint a Technology Czar!:scared1: Poor choice of words, but FOR WHAT???? The Gov't already had 'Tecno Czars'!!!!!

Obama is just stating what already excists in the Govt. If he is going to change something I would like to know what precisely he is going to change.

As far as what Obama has on his website under his technology plan

http://www.barackobama.com/issues/technology/#transparent-democracy

This has NOTHING TO DO WITH TECHNOLOGY AT ALL!!! He claims he wants a open government, through the use of technology. Which is good and the technology already excists today. But this issue is not a technology issue.

In his opening statement

“Let us be the generation that reshapes our economy to compete in the digital age. Let's set high standards for our schools and give them the resources they need to succeed. Let's recruit a new army of teachers, and give them better pay and more support in exchange for more accountability. Let's make college more affordable, and let's invest in scientific research, and let's lay down broadband lines through the heart of inner cities and rural towns all across America.”

-Let us be the generation that reshapes our economy to compete in the digital age.

HOW???? What does this even mean???

- Let's set high standards for our schools and give them the resources they need to succeed
OK! I have no problem with this.

-Let's recruit a new army of teachers, and give them better pay and more support in exchange for more accountability

I dont think a ARMY of teachers is the answer for Technology issues...in fact maybe a virtual teacher! :lmao: But really a army of teachers.:confused3

-Let's make college more affordable
I agree with this too....BUT what does that have to do with Technology!

-and let's invest in scientific research
Already be done for YEARSSSSSSSSSS! He is proposing nothing new here.

-let's lay down broadband lines through the heart of inner cities and rural towns all across America

I believe Verzion, a private company, has already done this!

Obama talks a good talk, but when you get right down to it...its all very empty redderick.

Computers are great when they work but very frustrating when the system goes down. I hate to try buying something in a store when the computer is down or even talk to WDW when their system is down.
I just don't see the POTUS needing to do email all to often.

I believe you mean rhetoric...

RE: Shaping the economy to compete in the digital age...

Perhaps he would like to bring your banking system into the 21st century, with the rest of us. You guys are still writing cheques for everything, and if you use your debit cards it can sometimes take 2-3 days for the debits to clear your account. Mailing in cheques for your mortgage payment? Mailing bill payments? For such a forward thinking nation, your banking system is really very archaic.

The "army of teachers" is really very simple. Your public education system is in the toilet. I make that assumption based on the number of people on these boards who either homeschool or pay for private schools. The citizens of America don't trust your education system to prepare their children to go out in the world. The evidence of how your system has failed the adults is evident everyday on this board in posts riddled with spelling and grammatical errors. I am not talking about uncommon words, I am talking about simple, everyday words. I was reading a popular thread the other day and the OP continuously wrote "responce" for response. Someone else always said she was "scaird" of things. Some of these gems come from people who are currently homeschooling. That should scare the snot out of you.

The only way to combat the functional illiteracy that seems to be rampant is to have more and better teachers. Pay them a decent wage, and for God's sake, set some standards! Give them the resources to do the job. The whole notion that school funding is based on daily attendance is so absurd I can't even wrap my brain around it. How can your county or state legislatures think that because 6 students are out for a week with the flu, the school needs less money to educate the rest? Ludicrous.

Somebody needs to fix your education, and at least Obama has a plan.

I haven't used a check in years (except to pay for kids' school expenses( so I have no clue what you are talking about.

jems? jems? I hope you are quoting someone else's mistake and not making one of your own, because we all know that bad spelling on a message board is the very definition of a failed school system. ;)

You know it really is too bad for Obama that only US citizens get to chose the POTUS.

Shouldn't that be "gems".

Which I guess is completely different from the venom and hatred the McCain campaign and it's supporters throw out about Obama?

I just want to make sure I understand. When Obama repeats McCain's own words back in an advertisement, or uses a common phrase McCain himself has used (when discussing a female opponent) it is venomous and hateful. The lies and half truths in McCain's ads, on the other hand, are not.

Shouldn't that be "gems".

Perhaps. I was publicly educated in the 70's. Thanks for pointing it out.

However, I am relatively certain that a review of my 3310 posts would reveal very few typing errors or spelling mistakes. I am sure I could review a few of our more articulate posters' histories and find an occasional spelling, typing, or grammatical error.

No, not funny. What's funny is that your party runs it's campaign on fear and used fear as a tactic to get us into a "war" (aka occupation) based on fear and lies and has kept our troops there based on fear and lies. The funny part is, you believe all of it! :happytv: :lmao: :rotfl2: I'll tell ya what to be fearful of. Be fearful of having a President McCain and his push-the-red-button VP. That's what I'm fearful of!

And one more thing... I'm so tired of the right playing like they are getting picked on. Don't try to tell anyone with a brain that the right doesn't do the same thing to Obama at the drop of a hat. It's all in the name of politics, my friend. I'd much rather debate the issues though, which has not even been brought up by your candidate yet. I can't wait for the debates! I'd LOVE to know what changes McCain has in mind.

The bolded is mine, I seem to recall that an act of War by our country demands a majority vote and there were a fair amount of Democrats voting to go into Iraq as well.

You know it really is too bad for Obama that only US citizens get to chose the POTUS.

Yes, indeed...

In a recent poll of Russians, nearly 4 to one would pick Obama over McCain.

Sure does make you go hmmm....

Public education is in the toilet because of the government. They know nothing about teaching and should let teachers, etc. do their thing instead. That is one of the reasons we do not want the government getting so involved in healthcare. Fool me once...

All the venom and hatred from the left is going to cost you the election. Mark my words.

I was actually talking about all the hatred thrown out by your party in the last few weeks (since Palin was chosen for VP).

I think it's funny that some DISers are suddenly complaining about hatred and venom. How many of you complained last spring and summer when the Obama hating trolls were out in force?

Ahhh, none. Hell, some of them joined the party. :lmao:

Perhaps. I was publicly educated in the 70's. Thanks for pointing it out.

Gee, was that in Canada? Maybe we can make some assumptions about an entire country based on your spelling mistakes. :rolleyes1

It doesn't make me go hmmm. It simply illustrates the undeniable fact that Obama is perceived as weak and malleable. It's the same reason he's the favored candidate of Al Qaeda. And Hamas. And Ahmadinejad. They believe his weaknesses will serve their nefarious interests. I mean, duh.

How can teachers effectively "do their thing" if they aren't properly trained?
