Today we had to move my Grandparents into an assisted living facility, it's a really nice 2 bedroom apartment. It's just sooo... sad for me. My parents divorced when I was a baby and my brother was around 4, we saw my dad every other weekend and my grandparents (my dad's parents) on the alternating weekends. My mom was usually pretty bitter and unhappy, and so were my brother & I. My Grandparents knew we had to deal with alot from my parents divorce. When we were at their house, there was always hugs & kisses & lots of I love you's, and don't forget the Chips Ahoy cookies & chocolate covered doughtnuts. Well in the past 2-3 years, my grandmother has been diagnosed w/ Alzheimers & my grandfather has frequent mini strokes. The neighborhood they have lived in for 45+ years has slowly "declined" in recent years. If my Grandmother were to start to "roam", which she has not yet, we worry for her safety.

So today, they moved out. My Grandmother kept saying "when are we going home?" or "when I get home" not realizing that she IS home. It is so hard for me to believe that the place that I considered my 2nd HOME and have soooo... many happy memories of is now (overnight) a vacant HOUSE. I stood in the backyard today and remembered climbing their apple tree, swinging and playing with their bassett hound "Susie" when I was a little girl. This is just such a sad day, I hate having to be a "grown up" and making such difficult decisions. I'm sorry this is soo... long but I just had to get it out of my system. Thanks for listening

I know, I remember what is was like when we had to move my grandmother to a nursing home for her own safety.

She just couldn't understand why she was there and when were we going to take her home again.

It is a very very difficult thing to go through.

{{{{hugs}}}} to you. I can certainly understand why you would be feeling sad today.

{{{HUGS}}} sweetie. The day I had to admit my mother to a nursing home was the most difficult day of my life. I know how sad you are feeling :(

 I so sad that you have to go through this today. My maternal grandparents had to go to assisted living before my grandfather died. The apartment allowed my grandmother-(who was disabled by RA and dementia) to get her hair done, attend church services, and get more medical treatment. I was greatful that each place that they moved into had a wonderful and caring staff.

Many hugs and prayers to you and your family. :grouphug:

and I all can offer you is a BIG HUG..had the same problem with my grandmother a few years ago...and had to put her in a nursing home for her own sake..I was raised more by my grandmother and my great grandmother than by my own mother..who was a single mother of 3 girls..and when I had to empty out her house and sell it..it was one of the saddest times of my life..but now you will know that they are safe and well taken care of..sending a load of pixie dust in your direction..may some land on your grandparent's in their new living situation!
Lynn

Though terribly sad for you today, we found that our grandparents settled in much faster than we expected. The company of others and the routine was wonderful for them. Hope you feel better soon.

hugs
sometimes doing the right thing is not easy
god bless

Oh my, I can sure hear the sadness in your voice. Growing up, getting old, both can be tough.

My very best to your grandparents, and you too, KristiKelly.
