I've had it with mommies in the CHANGE ROOM at the pool!!

Many moons ago when I was worried about being sending my son into male locker room at pool to change, but he was too old to go into woman's locker room, guess what we did ???!!! He went home in his wet swim suit GASP .. or if we had to go somewhere else after that he absolutely needed to be dry and in decent clothes, he changed in car. We didn't have a family room at our gym .. who would have thought .. let the kid be wet for the 10 minute ride home. It won't kill them . :confused3

Ps , I was not worried about him getting molested , I was worried about him going into stall to change and getting clothes all wet , or dropping his clothes into something yuck, or forgetting something lol. At 5 &6 that was very likely to happen lol.

Good heavens, when I here stories like this I always cringe. I'm not a terribly modest person, so I always change in front of my locker when I'm at the Y, so I would be very annoyed if there was a 8 year old boy standing there near me. If mommy doesn't mind, that's her weird issue, but I don't want some kid 10 feet away when I'm butt naked, drying off!

I would never have brought my son in the ladies locker room at that age. I just don't get these people who do these things. I mean, do you walk around naked at home in front of your boys? :confused3

And at 8 they are fully already talking (most times inappropriately) about women's parts, or at least they were in DD9 grade 3 class last year. :( It seems to be happening earlier and earlier.

I'd check to see what the policy is on the age of children being allowed in the opposite sex's change rooms. Then, you're armed with that information the next time a clueless sanctimommy makes a comment.

"I could change in private or you could follow the rules that state opposite sex children over the age of X aren't allowed in here. Have a nice day!"

I agree.

But even if 8-10 year old boys are allowed, it is not the OP that should be inconvenienced.

The Helicopter Mommy needs to take ownership of her choice and take responsibility that Junior may get an eyeful.

I too am surprised your gym allows boys that age in the women's locker room. I can remember this being an issue with my son when he turned 5 and wasn't allowed in the women's locker room at the pool. I was a little nervous sending him into the men's locker room, but he always survived. The gyms I've been to in the last five years or so have all had family changing rooms. My gym (the Y) doesn't allow members of the opposite sex over age 4 and there are several family changing rooms.

Right? So not fair. Other than books I didn't get to learn about female anatomy until high school, even then it was mostly from books. :rotfl2: College on the other hand.... :scratchin :offtopic:

IMHO a 10 year old is way to old to be in the opposite sexes changing room, even 8 is pushing it.

So true! When I was that age ( and younger, I'm 22 now fyi) I neverrrr went in the bathroom with my dad..

Gosh, I'd be afraid that the poor kid would be scarred forever and telling his classmates that when girls grow up, they get saggy, dimply and slightly smooshy! Although, that could be an excellent way of discouraging that line of thought :rotfl2:

Oh don't get me started on that one. I will get banned from disboard lol.

Op my answer to first mom would have been " I'm sorry I though I was in the woman's changing room, they have family room over there." Smile sweetly and ignore said . . . woman. And depending on my mood and time requirement for the day I might just take my sweet time getting dresses. But then I'm a brat.

Can you edit your post and take out the hate speech?

Thanks!

If you see them again, make sure to stay naked while you dry your hair and put on your makeup.

Agree!

As a matter of fact, I would if spoken to again would sit down and start up a conversation. If you are comfortable in that position for any given time.

Sorry but this is just gross, gross, gross!

I would kill my DH if he took my DD10 into a male locker room.... but thats of course a double standard.

Would be talking to the facility asap about their rules and regulations.

I swim several times a week at the university pool. There are always several swimming classes going on. This past week I've had TWO comments from mommies with older boys (between 8 - 10, I'd guess) about how I could change in private - I assume to protect their near pubescent boy from 30 seconds of my horrible nakedness as I change in and out of my swim suit.

The pool has a family change room for just this reason! It's not like there isn't another option available if you absolutely need to be with your son as he changes. But I am not scurrying off to change in the one of the two tiny (wet!) private showers/change rooms because you dragged your far-too-old-to-be-there boy into the women's change room! :furious:

I don't actually care that your son is in there. You're comfortable with it, fine. But at a pool, in a change room, you've got to be prepared to see people changing. The next mom who gives me static is getting an earful because I've just about had it...

Rant over...

No need to give em an ear full. Just tell em straight up. If the kid is too old to see a woman naked, he's too old to be in the woman's locker. And if they feel they're still too young to go into the correct locker for their sex by themselves, there are family lockers for that purpose. Never let em know you're mad when you can just tell em straight and be done with it.

I guess I'm pretty dense, or not easily offended, because I see nothing in the original post that was even remotely offensive, let alone be considered hate speech.

They are referring to a word that at one point was used to refer to those with a disability, frequently used to bully.

I wouldn't expect boys that age to be in there, but it really wouldn't apply to me, I don't change in front of anyone, and I have never been in a gym where people do. They use bathrooms or changing rooms with doors or curtains.

Seriously? NO ONE? Where do you work out, a Mormon gym?:rotfl:

OP, that would make me beyond angry and I would have gone off on the woman

No I work out in gyms that provide plenty of privacy, there is no need for anyone to stand there naked. I don't want to be around anyone naked, and most people I know have no desire to strip in front of anyone. I don't know where you guys work out, but it hasn't happened in my life, and I hope it never does. :confused3

ETA: What does being Mormon have to do with privacy? Do you work out in a low class gym that doesn't have enough money to provide privacy?

Every gym I've belonged to for the last 25 yrs has maybe 2-3 changing rooms. It's just like middle school/high school PE. We all look at our locker while we're getting changed. Takes about 3 minutes; no one is looking at anyone else, unless they're weird.

We have way more than that. I don't care who is looking or not looking, I will not stand there and strip, and I don't know anyone personally would OH and in middle school, we were never naked, underwear and bras sure but not naked.

I have never seen a naked woman in our locker room and I have been there for 15 years. Lots of people taking showers. and getting dressed for work, and not one naked body the whole time. I am sorry yours doesn't provide privacy, mine does.

Now, you all can continue to argue about the little boys in the women's locker room, which is TOTALLY unacceptable.

I agree with your last statement, kind of borders on child abuse. If a man took his daughter that age into a mens locker room. Whew.
