Should I bite the bullet and get them?

Here's our situation. We're going in Sept. for free dining. We'll be in the park for 10 days. Currently, we have 1 day base tickets because we bought DD a ticket to add on the dining plan. DH and I have been debating on whether to get APs or just upgrade to a 10 day hopper.

We usually go on vacation in January as well. This year we went to WDW, again, because we had a great time with DD on our fall trip and couldn't think of anywhere else we'd rather visit (with a toddler in tow). We haven't officially decided, but if I were a betting person, I'd say that we will likely do WDW in January this year as well.

Here are my questions:

1. To get in before the ticket price increase, I'll need to buy my tickets at a Disney store today, right?

2. At a Disney store, I can't take one of my old, unused tickets and upgrade it, right again?

3. If an AP is purchased at a Disney store, it's a voucher that I'll have to activate at a park ticket booth or DTD (not at the hotel)?

4. I can order a DDE card with just the voucher?

5. Historically, what kind of AP rates are offered in January?

Thanks!
