Yesterday I was bitten by a bug in the garden, haven't a clue what kind of bug it was but this morning I have an egg sized lump on the top of my foot which means I can only get flip flops on!!!

I've just taken a Piriton in the hope that it will take the swelling down but has anyone got any other ideas?

Oh you poor thing:sad2:

My youngest DD gets bitten terrible and usually when her bites are like that she needs antibiotics from the GP, especially if it is hot to the touch.

Only other thing I can recommend is ice.

Hope it gets better soon:thumbsup2

Awww, I know what that's like!

I get like that with mosquito bites, they just get HUGE, and when they are on non fleshy places like my hands and feet it's even worse.

Ice should help and if you can get hold of an antihsitamine cream that should help too. Hopefully it'll go down after a couple of days.

(Also, this might sound gross, but sometimes mine get clear liquid in, and getting that out makes them go down a lot faster. I assume the liquid is the infection and what swells it, so I am of the opinion if I can get whatever it is I'm reacting to out of my skin then that's a good thing.)

Thanks everyone!

I sat in the paddling pool yesterday dangling my feet and it went down a bit but appears to have come up again over night, I have got my Crocs on at work today but it really painful - if it's still the same tomorrow I think I will have to take a trip to the Docs! :confused3

I'd be very careful with this bite. We've just come back from WDW and my Mum was bitten over there and they've swelled very badly, pretty much like the sound of yours. We had to take my Mum to the chemist on I-Drive to be told they were infected and she's been given 14 days worth of anti-biotics!!

They really are terrible and very painful for my Mum, so I do hope yours are feeling better very soon! Goodness knows were these insects are coming from these days!!

Ouch! :headache: I always get bitten badly. I hope yours has gone down today Gems. You could try hydrocortisone cream from the chemist, that usually helps mine, especially with the itching!

I am now worried Rachel! I hope your mum is ok. Were the love bugs around?

Ouch Gem! Hope it's getting better.

Often when I get bitten I suffer like this. Usually in my case the lump area speads and it hot to the touch. I often have to get antibiotics from the docs. Piriton does help though.
When I was pregnant in summer 2005 one bite I got was so bad on the back of my calf I ended up on crutches as I wouldn't take any medication and it took weeks to ease - basically ice therapy and keep my leg up high.

I'd get to the Gp's if I were you ::yes::

That's what it's like Joanne, it's all red and hot, I have made an appointment for 12.00 today to see what they say, it is very angry looking to say the least!

Yeah Claire, there were plenty of lovebugs around! Annoying little things, but they seemed quite harmless on the nibbling front!

How are they today Gems? Did the doctors prescribe anything?

Oh and guess what (off topic I know, sorry Gems!), but guess what came home with me? :rolleyes1

He drew on my foot - yes I know weird, to show where the swelling had gone to and said that he would prescribe antibiotics and if the redness etc went beyond his biro line then I was to come and collect the prescription. It does seem better today but it's at the end of the day when it starts to swell up so we shall see!

No problem! :goodvibes

It doesn't sound too strange Gems, that's what they did over in Florida with my Mum. Drew around them with a biro!! She was told to keep them as dry as possible and then she could watch for the swelling to go down from the lines drawn.

Hope you're on the mend today :goodvibes

Bumping this as I was about the start the exact same thread and then remembered this one!!

I was bitten in the garden Wednesday night (I assume, didn't feel it at the time.) and yesterday the back of my legs was insanely red and itchy, now today the swelling is about the size of a tennis ball, and about 2 centimeters swollen above my normal skin.

It kept me awake for an hour in the night where it was so itchy!!!

What happened with your bite, Gems? I won't be able to get to the doctors tilll monday now, which will probably be when it's all cured by anyway.

Just seems too big for a mosquito bite even for me, and I react pretty badly.

Sorry Victoria I haven't been on here all that much over the weekend, how is it now? Mine calmed down quite a bit on about the 5th day after being bitten, I used tea tree oil on it in the end. The Dr wasn't concerned about it being infected. If yours is hot and red and still swollen I would get to the dr, ust incase it is infected.

Let me know how you go....

Thanks Gems,

I went to Boots and the pharmacist gave me some Benadryl cream which was like a miracle cure!!

Swelling went down over night.

It's still a bit red and itchy, but only around the bites themselves (turns out tehre were 6 of the buggers all close together which is why it was so huge!) I just assume I'm very allergic to moquito saliva, so as soon as I got some antihistamine on it to take the allerigc reaction out it made the world of difference.

Yay! So glad I found this cream, now I can just have 'normal' bites on holiday rather than days of huge itchy lumps!

That's great Torsie....Benadryl cream doesn't work for me.

Oh where is the tag fairy when you need her! :rotfl::rotfl:

I'm glad the cream worked, I might have to get some of that!
