I've become change-crazy!!! (as in $)

You guys have prompted me to get back on the change bandwagon. I am usually very good at it but I have slacked off recently. Thanks for the reminder guys.

Since I posted this thread this morning, I think I found over $2.00 in change today! A few pennies and quarters here and there, plus an envelope of pennies DH forgot about from his old E-bay sales, and the change from lunch....maybe I'm closer to almost $4.00!!!

Not to mention...side note...we put our truck repair bill from today on our Disney card because I'm paying the bill for it this week, so, although we had to shell out some moola to get it fixed...ugh....at least we could find away to "earn" something back toward our trip!

Uh, another finicky side of saving change.

* Warning * for some of you this may sound cheap. :teeth:

I budget $40.00 a week for gas. But as last week was vacation I had some left in the tank. So I only spent $32.00 at the pump. I filled it up and it will go me all week. When I got home I took the left over $8.00 and put it into one of my envelopes.

Also, I went to get some groceries thinking I would spend atelast $100.00 but left only spending $80.00 something. Yup, brought back the nearly $20.00.

Now with that and what I had already set a side I nearly have enough for DH and myself to go parasailing. :cheer2:

May be cheap cheap but it works for us.

Oh did not find any coins on the ground but think it worked out well enough. :earboy2:

It is truly amazing how quickly change will add up.

Also what a great way to teach children "a penny saved is a penny earned".

I pick up anything that could be considered a coin from wherever I see it. My DH laughes at me because sometimes you can't even tell the dirty little thing on the ground is a penny, but I seem to be able to spot it. My sons girlfriend saw how much I was saving in change and now she started a jar for our trip. She said she can't believe how much change she finds in the furniture at her house where her brothers lounge on the couch and don't know it fell out. She's doing pretty well! I pay for everything in dollars so I get change and can usually save close to $100.00 in about three to four weeks. My DH knows that he should just put the change from his pockets in the change jar every night because I'll just snitch it anyway :teeth: .

8ears-
I think that is a great idea! I wish I was as math conscious as you to be able to have such a fixed budget since our groceries and gas vary so much from week to week. That is a smart way to save!!!!

Here in Canada change includes the 2 dollar coin and the one dollar coin so it can add up fast!!!! I put all my change in our trip jar and usually just before we go on a trip we roll the change. I don't think we have ever had less than 300 dollars in that jar when doing this. You don't miss the change, but certainly appreciate it when the trip rolls around and you have extra spending money!!! My daughter always seems to find change at the grocery store and packs it away for her spending money.

:p Saving for WDW has made me a change-nut! Any where I see/find a penny I snatch it up and put it in our change can (it was a big jar until it broke last year before our trip :sad2: ). We saved $319 in two years. Now we are going to cash in what we have in one year and hope to have at least $116 for our rental car and then any left overs for food! We have less than two months to go! I was even cleaning out an old jewlery box and found two pennies and deposited them in the can! See a penny pick it up, put it in your Disney change cup!!!!

Anyone else qualify as a change-nut like me????

Absolutely!! I'm a step beyond <maybe>, if it's 1.04 and I have a pocketful of change, I will not give the .04¢ up~ I pay with 2.00 and then have anoother .96¢ for the jar!! :cheer2:

This is my new addiction! Is there a self-help program for change hoarders? I counted mine last night and had $451. I also got a $50 HP rebate check in the mail that I'll put in there! I've had more fun saving change. Any extra such as rebates, etc go to the Disney change jar. I just cash them in for rolled coins.

I used to say, "Find a penny, pick it up. All day long, you'll have good luck."

But I like the other saying about the Disney cup!

I just want to say thanks for the change encouragement! :goodvibes

We have a disney cruiseship bank that we bought in Jan on our cruise and we have been saving our change for our next trip, but..... WE'RE NOT SAVING NEARLY AS MUCH AS WE COULD BE!
So I am going on a treasure hunt right now! :Pinkbounc Thanks again!

I started the account on April 20th and I have $194.50 so far! My change Tupperware isn't empty yet, I still need to roll some more!

UPDATE: between April 20th and April 25th I put $513.50 into my passbook account!!! My husband came home Sunday from the casino and handed me $300 and it went straight into the account!!!

This thread encouraged me to do more than I was doing! Thanks everyone!

I do the same thing except I use my Citi card for gas and groceries to earn 5% cash back ~ I put the cash I have for gas and groceries into an envelope to pay off the Citicard. If there is any left over at the end of the week, it goes in my "Disney jar". Right beofre our trip, I'll get the Citicard cash back and use it for spending $.

I also save change ~ pennies in one jar and silver coins in the other (I hate rolling the pennies! I will take those to Coinstar and dump them in right before we leave, but I will roll the silver myself). I'll pay only in whole bills and get the change back.

DH quit smoking a few months back so he puts in the $ he would have used for butts every week.

Dh also plays cards every so often ~ if her wins the $ goes into the Disney jar too!!

extra rebate $, ebay $ and yard sale $ goes in there too.

Every little bit adds up! I wish I had kept track of how much we have saved this way ~ I just keep adding it to my ING account every so often to earn interest.
