Every year about this time when spring is peeking at us through the rain and in some places still snow, but the promise of warmer weather is here, I post this thought.

Today is officially the first day of the rest of your life. The past is done and can't be changed so it's time to put the past to bed and get on with the living. The second chance you wished you had to do things differently is here.

Starting today, cold turkey, you can begin the journey to the new stronger faster leaner and healthier you.

Starting today you can begin eating like you should.

Today, call those friends and family members you have been thinking about calling.

Make peace with that person in the office, or family member, you have been mad at for way to long, offer your hand in peace and forgiveness, and mean it.

Go to your mirror TODAY and tell that beautiful person looking back at you that you are worth the effort.

Today you can choose to be happy, or you can choose to be unhappy, choose wisely, you have to live with your choice.

Decide what is keeping you from being happy and change it.

Call your credit card companies, the # is on the back, tell them the rate your paying is to high, they will lower it on the spot.

Today start asking for a discount for everything you shop for. Most stores have discounts, AAA, AARP, Millitary, Teacher, Nurse, Student, what ever you are just ask, "Do you have a discount for 'insert something', all they can do is say no or let me ask my manager.

If you smoke, today is the day to quit, now do it!!

The things I've listed here are just examples, you have to decide what you need to make the rest of your life they way you want it.

Thanks, Panda, for wise words I needed to hear today.

Thanks for the gentle nudge Dave:thumbsup2 . I always appreciate things being put into perspective and your words are very timely.

Thanks for the reminder Dave that we need to take control and responsibility for what we do. And a very timely reminder for me.

I heard a advertisement on TV not long ago, can't remember what it was for but anyway, it went like this and I thought it was worth passing on.

There is no "Someday" in the week, so if you have been waiting for it, stop, it's disguised as today.

We can spend our lives waiting for the right time, when the right time was there all the time.

We all have battles to fight everyday, not the least one is just to make it through each day without screaming. We have family, errands, chores, work.... the demands on our time often seems endless.

But the truth is we can be a better person all around if we are healthier and stronger. Our energy level is higher and we can accomplish more in less time and not be worn out after.

Don't beat yourself up if you do have days that are crazy but take advantage of the when you can have "me" time.

Most of you guys that have been around wish for a while know my story, since I tend to talk to much most of the time. But I don't think my story is all that unique either:

When I retired from the AirForce 14 years ago I was in super shape. Then when I retired I just stopped exercising, no reason to I thought I was no longer required to be a strong, fit, warrior. I was a civilian and it was time to do the long days at work and come home and eat then watch TV and go to bed.

Then when I turned 50, 7 years later I couldn't believe how out of shape I had become. My once hard body was pudgy and soft. I had gained more than 50 lbs and lost a lot of muscle weight. The guy who once worked out hard everyday now got winded washing his windshield at the gas station.

I made the decision that it was time to change or I wasn't going to be around much longer. I wasn't happy, I had no real goals or desires, I was to tired from life in general.

I started walking in the mall every morning before work. I stopped eating the "Biggie Size", I stopped eating the 2 sasuage biscuits on the way to work and the fast food. I stopped eating anything deep fried.

I graduated from walking to running after a year when I was feeling strong again. The running went well for about 2 years then I tore my achillies tendon a little going down a steep hill to fast. Two more painfull years of trying to run and then one day I decided to just be a walker again.

Where I'm going with this story is that today I'm so much happier than I was that day I turned fifty. I'm stronger, more fit, but most of all I have goals and dreams again. I found the magic that was there all the time, I just had to make the decision that it was time to change.

I challange everyone to look at what you could change, that would make you happier, then do it. Believe in the magic that is within you.
