The Blue Zoo Review!

IMG_0350.jpg

I am the parent of an Autistic Child, and I was a little concerned about taking him to Blue Zoo. We could have put the kids in Camp Dolphin for this evening. Camp Dolphin is free if you dine at the signature restaurants at the S/D. While Blue Zoo and Il Mulino have children's menus, Shula's does not. Earlier in the week I had called to inquire about whether they felt the could accommodate an Autistic child. Their "yes" was less than convincing, or perhaps I am an too overprotective, but we decided to take the kids to Blue Zoo. We opted to go right at opening so that we would have less of a chance of disturbing other diners. It was a good call. We had the whole place to ourselves for the first hour of our meal! It was almost creepy because the waitstaff was hovering us.

Our server Eric was wonderful. He explained all of the dishes, and pointed out a few favorites. He was also very good with the kids.

We ordered appetizers and Eric put in the kids dinner orders so that they would arrive in synch with our appetizers.

I had the Garlic Roasted Jumbo Shrimp - Served with creamy polenta & fennel butter. - OMG I thought I'd died and gone to heaven!

Dh had Yellowfin Tuna Tartare - From the "Olive's" table, twisted cucumber salad, crispy rock shrimp, orange glaze, & scallion cream. He gave it an enthusiatic thumbs up!

DS8 had cheese pizza which was huge. Enough that the kids really could have shared.

DS5 has spaghetti. I tasted this. The sauce tasted just like my grandmother's sauce.:thumbsup2

For our entrees Dh order the Swordfish which was presented differently than the menu here on the DIS or Allears has it listed. It was on a layer of Marscapone Cheese and a risotto of some sort . He absolutely loved it.

I had the Two-pound Maine "Cantonese" Lobster, fried and tossed in sticky soy glaze

I'll be honest with you, I should have gotten the Surf and Turf.

While the dish was pretty good, it wasn't "To die for". The fact that in was in a batter and a soy glaze made it difficult to taste the lobster itself. I still managed to eat all but one big claw piece which I gave to DH.:goodvibes
I left most of the rice and stir fried veggies though.

By this point we were stuffed. I know, I know we left without dessert. Blasphemy! But we were truly stuffed. The room was starting to fill up, and my kids were starting to get antsy.

We redeemed ourselves later at the BW Bakery!:goodvibes

Great review and I LOVE THE NEW ZOO REVIEW PICTURE! :thumbsup2

Gee, your review is great. Absolutely love it when reviews have pics. We may have to head on over during our trip. The boards are acting up, so responses are before the original posts.:badpc:

Thanks for the great review. It looks really good and is definitely one we must try someday.

That freaked me out. I thought I was in some sort of timewarp.

Anyway, great review! We really enjoyed bluezoo last year, and I think we might need to try it again.

Huh? how did the reply get ahead of the actual OP?:confused3

Kabuki has been doing that to me, too! You're in good company. :rotfl2:
I've been noticing the "clairvoyant postings" over the last few days, too.

I'm dining there in October, so thanks for the early review. :thumbsup2

Love the review and can I just say ... you nabbed my idea for the Blue Zoo review I'm planning for October! I can't believe you used the New Zoo Review... and even posted a picture! :lmao: :worship:

And you ordered the two appetizers that I've been eyeballing - the shrimp looks delicious and I do believe if it's still on the menu come October 15th that I will be ordering it myself. :thumbsup2

And Lori ... if you happen to stop by this thread again ... did you know that Blue Zoo has a Grand Marnier flight on their menu?

Enjoyed reading your review ~ Thanx for posting.

Thanks for the review. I have eaten at Todd English's Olives in Vegas and loved it...add a ton of seafood and I'd be in heaven....

I did a search for Blue Zoo and got nothing so I am so glad I found this thread on my own. it looks fabulous. Thank you for the pictures and reviews:thumbsup2

OMG !

The 'New Zoo Review' pic about killed me ! That's Henrietta Hippo and Freddy Frog... Oh goodness, I'm getting old... ;)

Anyway, glad you loved bluezoo, we love it was well. Bluezoo, Shula's and even The Fountain (great burgers and chicken noodle soup) are some of the many reasons we stay at The Dolphin.

Can't wait to return.
