Our company begins moving to a new office building today. At 2pm were are going to shut down the network and the phone system and the movers will arrive to start taking everything to the new location. The place already looks abondoned. The book cases are empty. The art has been taken off the walls. Nothing is on the desks and tables. Everything is packed up and in boxes.
Its an exciting time, but strange. I have been with this company for 11 years. I've seen it grow from a suite of 4 offices to the point where we fill up nearly 2 floors of the building. Its gonna be weird driving to a new place on Monday. I'm glad we're going, but there are a lot of memorys here. Its never been a very nice building (long term readers of the DIS may recall the time the roof was leaking so bad that I had to throw a tarp over my desk), and we really need more space, but I still have a bit of nostalgia for all the good times and hard work that have taken place here over the last decade.
The really good new is that, for the first time in my career, I will soon have my own office (with a window no less)! Since we have always been limited on space in our current building, nearly everyone (including my boss) has had to share their office with someone else. Since the new place is so much larger, I finally will have an office to call my own. Yippee!
